You lose.
Onward to what gets... er, shits me off:
People who forgot what spell check is for.
People who whine excessively about minor issues like movies.
People who rant about major issues like Iraq and such.
People who make lists that take up too much space.
People who are mad that I used 'people' to start every sentence in this list.
People who think that PotC is a good show because one actor is supposedly sexy.
In defense of the above statement, Kiera Knightly (fuck if I know how to spell her name) is ugly, so don't try to turn the tables.

Spyder- Dear, dear Legato. I don't say PotC is good because of Depp's persona of 'Captain' Jack Sparrow....I merely say I watch it because of him. Mmmm... And Rae, I know how you feel. Yeah, so I'm 27, not quite old, but still...Sexy as some of the celebs my 17 year old niece talks my ear off about, sadly they are just too young to me.

Oh, and as to the open ended stuff, maybe he doesn't like having to wait to see what's going to happen? Since we are already talking about it, I'll use PotC for the example. If it had been any other filmaker except Disney, the first movie ended well. Only the fact the Sparrow was alive and on his ship could allow for a sequel, there was no cut off mid-plot. (However, since the movie was made by Disney, everyone should have known it will be sequeled to death) The second movie however cut off mid-plot in the agreement to rescue the Captain. Which I do hate, too. It's one thing when you are talking episodes of a show, but mid-plot cliffhangers in movies and books do tend to annoy me. When you are talking in terms of a year or more for resolution, it is a bit much.

For a Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly are good sequels too.
Edit: They follow Fistful of Dollars, I just realized that a few members most likely don't know what good old movies are. Then again I doubt there are many people my age that have watched the original King Kong.

You're all gonna hate me then. I'm signing up for PETA tomorrow.
Before you join PETA, you ought to do some research into what they really do.
Some actions carried out in the name of PETA include damage of property like firebombing of medical research laboratories and even organisations such as Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the American Cancer Society because they support such work that may uncover cures. It should be remembered that many people living with Type 1 or Type A Diabetes would be dead if it were not for medical research as well as many other conditions.
Here's a link to
PETA Kills Animals where in North Carolina the animal rights group admitted under oath that it does kill large numbers of animals.
And a link to
Seven things you didn't know about PETA including funding of groups classified by the FBI as domestic terrorist groups.

Spyder- I'll throw my voice in too. Caring about animals and/or the environment is a good thing. Don't waste yourself on PETA! There are many organizations out there that you can join that make a difference, just don't go with the terrorist ones. I may make some people mad, but I'll also warn you against Green Peace. They aren't any better and have completely disregarded crazy things like the law in their zeal.

Apr 15 2007, 04:06 PM
Meh, I couldn't join anyway. It's like NPR (National Public Radio... awesome.). You have to pay a certain amount to be registered as a member. And I don't have any money.
But I'm trying to make a difference. I guess I've always just loved other animals more than people. People have done some mean stuff to me and others... and I guess... other animals, like my dog Chester, an awesome yellow lab, have always been my closest friends. They're always there.
Maybe I'll try to get a job at an Animal Shelter of some sort. It's just cruel how no one cares about other animals anymore... it takes personal endangerment to make people start to care.
Anyway, back on topic. The inflated racism thing shits me off. I know how it's wrong to be racist, but this whole "Imus" thing is gone off in the wrong direction.

I am all for ethical treatment of animals, in fact, I personally deplore the conditions most poultry are kept in and harvested in. But, I hate PETA more than anything else. Their plan is to "liberate" animals from human slavery. They see all domesticated animals as slaves even those that are constantly nurtured and well taken care of. If those crazy-ass molotov throwin hippies got their way, all pets would be either thrown into the wild or killed. Now if a person had depended on you its entire life, and all of a sudden you just abandoned it or killed it, how would that be ethical at all?
Another thing I disagree with PETA on is their methods. The ends justify the means to them, so they are not above sending home propaganda to little children or offending the most sacred traditions of the world's religions. They even teach students how to make bombs! How is any of that good?

People will continue to use such racial slurs so long as it grants them the attention they crave. Take swear-words for example; not a single one has ever been used in proper context or usage, but who cares so long as people gasp in indignation?

Well, I'd like to hand you some Little John with the expletives canceled. All you hear is "YE-AH! *bleep* All you *bleep* *bleep* *bleep* can't *bleep* with....."
Point is, few swear words are used in proper context. Take "bastard" for example. Or "damn", which is a verb.
spyderjaxon
Apr 15 2007, 06:23 PM
Spyder- I agree, all swearing is for making a shocking statement. It loses it power when overused. Really though any word can be made to mean anything, if you say it the right, or is it wrong?, way. I'll never understand why censors don't get that. You can't enforce "decency". As for the Imus debacle, it is just one more spin on the rat wheel. Unending in it's sameness. Do you have to like what he said to be against what has been done? No, I don't. I can think he is an idiot and still not call for his firing. Do you have to obey the laws of this nation? Apparently not if you don't agree with them. Free Speech. It was protected for a reason. Because "you don't like it" is not a good enough reason for censorship, ever. If you watch the news at all, you'll have been bludgeoned to death with this story. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if we aren't a nation of whining little kids.

Apr 15 2007, 06:29 PM
We are, actually. It has to do with the "American Dream" and the way we are brought up in an American society. There's a lack of discipline, as well as a sort of dignity. Some kind of mindset that governs thought is "Who cares, I can fix it if I want to."
Well, not all things work the way people want them to...and not all people will own up to their responsibility. It's a shame, really.

I don't know, but for some reason I feel like raising an angry mob at a local bar while screaming "coup de etat" at the top of my lungs. Worn clothing optional. Fire may or may not be included. Some assembly required.
But, seriously...somehow the American standards have fallen dangerously low. Politics, economy, technology, education...media. All it takes is a cursory glance, and one can already tell how far America has gone from the ideals of the past.
spyderjaxon
Apr 15 2007, 07:05 PM
Spyder- What can you expect from a media driven culture? We spend a lot of time fighting about nothing, but when the time comes to step up to the real issues, either we're too tired or the media has already made up our mind for us. And too, only special interest groups really push their issues. Money talks. Think about it, about our "wonderful" options for president. How much do you need? Millions apparently. Those in power tend to stay in power. It is as true in America as it is in any other part of the world.
darkdragonh8
Apr 15 2007, 07:11 PM
Good point, my angry mob would be easily dispersed with the latest on TV. Nuthin' says typical Western Culture than a sofa, popcorn, and a TV set.
And power is something that is actually necessary in a healthy lifestyle. To have a web of friendships, connections all over the place to induce a feeling of keeping in touch. Though, when such power is misused, and misused with little judgement....that's when the poverbial shit hits the fan.

Spyder- But..but... I like popcorn.... America's faults are legion, we could be here all day. I'll tell you something that really makes me mad though. Most of the world seems to hate us. In the least they are very unflattering. So...when did we become the world's handout department? Every time some disaster, be it natural or man-made, hits another country, we are expected to hand out money and stuff(but mostly money) to help them out. What?!
darkdragonh8
Apr 15 2007, 07:36 PM
Well, it's way more fun to say "Capitalist pig" than "Communist Dog".
Besides, for some reason Americans have a reputation for being stupid. Blame it on tourists going off to other countries, but the fact is, America has a soiled reputation that just isn't getting much better. And for hand-outs, everyone knows that the U.N. has THAT covered. A point that I should have put in earlier but am too lazy to edit is that America is also well-known for "great riches", "material spending", etc. etc. So, the reason goes, why shouldn't America get off its ass to give money for a good cause? And the crowd yells "Because they're selfish!". There are various amounts of points on that topic, but the easiest answer would probably be: It's easier to blame someone else than to admit you're wrong.
Mind is fizzling here...

Most Americans owe their lives to credit companies and never stop to think what will happen when that bill gets too high. Hit that trap early. Recovered and moved on wiser. Credit is not your friend.

Eh, it's grown on me. I'll miss the cheap drink stands, the delightful food karts parked on the side, the cheap BB guns, and all of the things that made the place...Taiwan. I would prefer to live in America, but there are various things that I've become used to in Taiwan. Buying three meals a day for less than 5 dollars...all the foods that I've always loved...the tea addiction that's grown on me. The like. But there are also many things about Taiwan that I abhor, like the insect life, (mosquito bites THROUGH my clothes, flies buzzing around piles of dog crap, cockroach that greeted me in the kitchen as I prepped my green tea), the over-population of dogs on the island, the smokers, the beetle-nut chewers...
I don't know, really. I've had many a good memory in Taiwan, like go-karting in a track 20 floors up in a shopping mall, or buying cheap computer products...the first girl-
I know that when I do go back to the states that the move will be emotional. There's a lot that I don't want to let go of, but so much that I want back. It's part of being a TKC, I guess.
