Ellie
Vashtish, the night elf huntress, has been out gathering leather for her leather craft. She spots Cale and the group. Shes tall with long blue hair and sky blue eyes. She comes closer and over hears Richard giving Cale'anon a bad time about choosing to be good.

Vashtish: Oh brother, so after seeing all the evil of the troll hordes and other evil doers, you'd have Cale'anon join the ranks and add to the evil? Oh brother. How stupid is that. I prefer to be good and fix things.

Richard: What the? Who are you? We werent talking to you.

Vashtish: Well I'm talking to you. *grabs her bow and pulls out an arrow and aims at Richard's head.

Richard: Hey now! *ducks as Vashtish's arrow narrowly passes over his head and sinks into the tree behind him.
Why you little... *holds up his hands to cast a spell to nuke Vashtish.

Vashtish: *puts her fingers up to her lips and a huge raptor like creature runs up from behind some bushes to Vashtish's side. "Sic him boy," she says and points to Richard. An impish smile plays on her lips.

Vashtish: turns to Cole'anon. Btw my friend Ellie, a gnome, saw you when she was out gathering berries for her potions. She's been pretty busy. She wanted to tell you that its okay to be good. Even if your a blood elf. You can still choose to be good. It doesnt matter what everyone else does, just what you do. Maybe if she gets some free time she will tell you about her story. How she used to be an evil over Lord of the underworld and gave it up to be who she is now. I got to go now. Its fun watching you guys get into trouble.

Cole'anon: Who what?

Vashtish: *looks for her pet and sees him some yards off, jumping and clawing to try to reach Richard who climbed up it to get away from the Raptor. Vashtish puts her finger to her lips and whistles for her pet. The raptor hears her whistle and immediately forgets about Richard and bounds over to her like a joyful pet dog. Wagging his tail and toungue lolling out.
* Didum bite the nasty ol' Richard? He saided Cole cant chooseum to be good because of what others do. Didn't he.Being good doesn't mean being stupid does it? No. Oogie boogie boo. There's alot of things Richard can't see right now because he's got nasty wasty tunnel vision huh snookie. Maybe if he shuted up and listened, he would find that Cole'anon can see alot better than he can.

Bye Cole.

*Vashtish waves and disappears into the brush.

Cole looks after her bewildered. Richard drops from the tree and brushes himself off and comes over to Cole.

Cole'anon: Do you know her?

Richard: Unfortunately yes. I know her from the other board, she's a real pain in my arse.

Cole: The other "board"?

Richard: Just drop it.

This isn't a troll post... clearly, we have a new member with a background in the WOW Role-Playing boards. Welcome to the LFG Forums. Or should I say,

"Greetings, and well met. I must confess, though this world bears a striking resemblance to my home in Azeroth, I fear I may have lost my way, for there is much that is unfamiliar to me here."

Um... yeah, that's about all I got. I know this specific forum is exclusive for comic posting; I presume that RP'ing qualifies, although I don't think it's been on these forums much as yet. I'm sure the mods will let us know if it needs to go elsewhere.

Again, welcome aboard, Ellie.

Eld: I edited RMV's post because it was a troll/flame =)

A Mary Sue?

A Mary Sue?

Don't know if I'd call Ellie a Mary Sue. A Mary Sue (or her male counterpart, the Gary Stu) is a character without any flaws or whose flaws, if she has them, are romanticized. One notable characteristic is that the Sue is almost never wrong. Sues are often authorial self-inserts.

For example, an argument could be made that The Sword of Truth's Richard Rahl is a Sue. He is the greatest swordsman alive, potentially the most powerful wizard alive, a master sculptor, a woods guide who "knows a lot about representational designs involving lethality," becomes an emperor, handsome, married to a beautiful woman (and was able to figure out the only way to break her curse and have a real relationship with said woman), manages to convince most everyone that his (or Ayn Rand's) philosophy is the Truth, is always right (even when people think he's crazy, say when he's spouting off nonsense about chicken's not being chicken's and goat's being slides), etc.

The same argument could be made about The Symphony of Ages's Rhapsody. She is one of the greatest swordsmen alive, a Namer (potentially one of the most powerful wizards alive), a master singer, a farm girl who holds her own with kings and queens, actually becomes an empress, beautiful, married to a handsome man (and was able to figure out the only way to break his curse and have a real relationship with said man), manages to convince most everyone that her philosophy is the Truth, is always right (even when people think she's crazy, say when she's spouting off nonsense about walking through the big ball of molten lava at the center of the Earth), etc. (Yay ctrl+V! I could do Eragon or Rand al'Thor, but you get the point.)

You can apply these same characteristics to a lot of characters. They especially crop up in fan fiction or certain roleplaying games. Many people think they're a sign of bad writing, but some people disagree. There's also debate about the where you draw the line between a typical badass and a Mary Sue. Typically, if a character has real flaws, it's not considered a Sue. If it's parody, it's not a Sue.

Oh, so basically Mary Sue's are the reason I know I can't write at all. I'm too cocky.
GoodGod
Don't know about that, Rae-Rae. WoT, SoT, and Eragon are all pretty popular despite the fact that their main characters are Sues. A lot of people don't like Mary Sue characters, but having them won't necessarily make a story bad. There must be some other reason you can't write at all tongue.gif Or you're just being too hard on yourself.
