I like case modding as well, been awhile since I got to do one. Waiting until I need to upgrade my computer again and then let the fun begin. laugh.gif

Here is my current setup:

One static red cathode light and one sound activated cathode light.

Case modding seems to be a very yankee fascination, I know quite a few hard core computer geeks, and with the exception of some additional cooling systems, none of them seem to have performed any undue accesorising.

After spotting this key board Mod

http://www.steampunkworkshop.com/keyboard.shtml

scroll all the way down to see it finished

I've been thinking ot doing a steampunk mod for my whole system... it would be pretty cool to get the whole thing done up in polished wood and brass with some nice gear work, hooked up to a mock steam engin to power it

If you need idea's for how to mod you case check this site out... some awesome mods. I'll probably do a case mod one day, when I have access to all the tools. tongue.gif

...insides....

ok so look back and see the ugly green thing in there? thats a funnel directing air to the CPU

i took it out and replaced the old fan with a LED coloured one.

but wait! thats not the end of the crazy funnel!!!

i carved out a skull and painted it black so that the fan's light will shine through.

and if you dont under stand wut exactly i ment by that, heres a pic the better describes it.

until we meet again..

Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of making your compy all pretty? Maybe this is my beef with race car drivers, but the problem's the same. It's performance that counts.
scar~face
hmm. damn good question

NOW MY LIFE HAS NOO MEANING WAAAAAAAHHH

thank you

I have always wanted to mod out my computer with lots of lights and whatnot.... but alas, I have no idea how and all the stuff on modding sites just confuses the hell out of me. I'm worried I would end up jacking up my computer.
As for why I want to.... cause it's Sexy!!! (the end results are, anyways)

Not if it turns out to be a little putt-putt that takes 10 seconds to get up to 60 mph. Or whatever the PC equivalent is. In all honesty, I'm not computer savvy at all, so maybe I just don't understand... It must make conventions visible from space though, were there no roof.

ANOTHER UPDATE

HOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good old rotozip laugh.gif

AND NOW......POWER!

ITS ALIVE, ALIVE!!!

this thing is really coming alone!

The edges look like the need a bit of loving... You should use sand paper after pretty much every cut, the fine stuff will give it a nice smooth edge. I hope you are able to air spray all of this, because without air spray you got nothing! (Unless you go with a metallic finish... "OH SHINNY!")

I've only ever installed a silly novelty item in a car once, it was a purple light. Of course, that was the only car I've ever had that was too small to fool around in anyway, so all in all a good waste of time and money.

Now all these pretty lights and whizbangers and zippoppers and fruit twisters or whathaveyou are lovely in the dark, but you do know that you should use computers in a reasonably well lit setting, yes? That is, if you're not already blind for some other, unrelated reason.

A car to small to fool around in? I've never heard something so utterly insane... no car is too small if you are determined enough!

Anyone else reminded of that line from Mallrats?

Oh, yeah, I have that. Light sensitive - I started getting migraines from direct sunlight. Now I shun all forms of OH&S and play to comfort. It used to burn my eyes a little about the fourth hour in, but now I never even notice. With yet another plus, my eyes are now so unused to sunlight that the focusing period is longer than the time I spend in direct sunlight! My migraines are minimised!

Also: Exclamation points!

I must say I have never seen the use of moding my computer, when I built mine I actually liked the big grey block look. I use a full size tower and have plenty of room to mod it but never have seen a reason to. As for your design, it is not bad; well other then completely making the air scoop useless. As far as I can tell you cut a hole in it and did not cover it, this will allow the air that is meant for the processor to escape and since your processor has no fan (hence the air scoop) heating may be an issue now. I also do not see the point of moding a standard Dell case, not so much that the case is bad but to truly get the joy of the moded computer, I fell you should really build it yourself.

well, seeing as this is an intel prossesor, it doesnt run very hot any ways, and i have a 120mm fan pumpin air into the case and the other fan is drawing it out, ALL the air passes throught the prossesor. Also, this is not my main machine. My main machine i did build 100% myself, see below

I decided to do this mod because i have done SOO many regular cases, and i wanted to try somthing different, plus, i got this machine for free, and i am a student on march break, i need somthing to do.

and btw, i tryed to swap out the parts and make it custom, but this case is very special to the motherboard it is almost impossible to get one that will fit the case.

but anyways...

here is the keyboard finished

and the case all together

and with the light off!

the writing is the word "hacked" without the vowels
i sanded a piece of plexy glass and used an old light out of an exit sign for the glow

Hope yall like it!

Kudos! Never has an old Dell looked so good. laugh.gif I actually like the colour you used on the keyboard but as for the case, just doesn't do it for me but I guess it goes with all the pretty lights.

Nice project, surprised you put it together so quickly.
