Yeah they do its a rule that is used to kinda protect like high school relationships. So if you are dateing someone younger when you turn 18 you dont necisarily have to stop srewing your bf or gf or break up with that person.

While the drinking age in Australia (and NZ may have similar laws) is 18, we can get our kids drinking at 16 if we supervise, and I believe even younger for "Religious or Cultural reasons"

If you know anything about Australian culture, you'll know how silly that is.

No, they'll do what all politicians everywhere do: promise the moon around election time and then do whatever the hell they feel like in the intervening years. Just because a larger percentage of people vote, (even granting you 100% as opposed to 50-60%), that doesn't mean that the percentages of how people vote will change, or be more responsive to a particular candidate's history or platform.

It's 16 in Australia, just like NZ. I'm starting to think that the people who make these laws MAY have slight pedeophallic motivations. See, for the better part of my life I thought the law was that, at 16, it was legal to have sex within a 2 year age bracket (so, a 16 year old and a 18 year old is fine, but 19 is illegal ect ect).

It turns out I was wrong.

It's legal to have sex at 10, within a 2 year age bracket, and after 16 it's legal with any bracket. (So a 10 and 12 year is fine, 10 and 14 is not. But a 16 and 65 year old is okay too.)

I was very, very disturbed upon learning this.

Here in AZ, it's 18 with a 2 year grace period.
