that is going to be one hell of a port... I don't think you'd be able to do it honestly.
The directx would be problematic as well as the emulation of the dynamic directories wow uses...

I suppose you could port the game and the expansions but the problems I would think would come when the downloader tool kept trying to verify you were up to date.

Perhaps you could get around this if you ported to Mac client and not windows client (since the similarities of Mac OSX have with the BSD kernels) but I'd still be willing to bet it will call an outside source you can't emulate (IE: remote authentication or directx testing, etc.)

I'd love to see some screenshots when your done smile.gif

wine gives you the functionality like video games that only work in windows.

Now, OP, the problem with wine is even if you can install a stable XP port of it, you will still have the issues of your system being assaulted by Wow servers trying to validate you against your windows version.

I ported half-life into wine, and winamp, xchat, vchat, mirc, etc. but a lot of those programs are designed to be easy to port.
Wow is a monster... I'd suggest you getting the mac version as it will be at least similar in file structure to linux/unix.

Crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/) the non-free version of WINE supports a much larger API directory, and has a success WOW port. Chances are they have worked with Blizzard to get it right, crossover seems to me to be a lot more stbale than wine, but it does cost money...

Well thanks I think I will buy the mac version and try it thanks for all your suggestions and help Gidd
And i still think theres a point in not having windows but using the wine thing because it alows me to use ubuntu and all its awsome features and have some of the programs that i love that are only for windows

It's not to hard to run WoW under linux, I've got Guild wars running in Arch linux, the odd graphic's glitch but other than that it runs smoothly. You can either pay and make it easier to run on linux, costs like $3 a month I think, using Cedega or you can use wine which is free but takes a little more effort to set up. If you go to the Ubuntu forums/wiki and search you should be able to find what you need. If not the gentoo wiki will probably hold the information you need.

Edit: The Howto from the ubuntu forum
Second Edit... :If you really feel up to a challange you can compile cedega from the CVS but you seem some what new to linux and it's far from the easiest thing to do.

Thanks for the suggestions i will try it

I don't play WoW. But I play Guild Wars and Oblivion as well as Vice City, Sim City and other games not of the RPG genre.

...on Linux OpenSuse 10.1

I use Cedega, which is an advanced wine for games software you can get from the Transgaming Website

There is no demo, I'm afraid. You will need to pay either a yearly or monthly fee. They keep adding stuff to support Windows games in every engine, and WoW is one of those games that people ask for the most, particularly now that the burning expansion is out.

Note that just trying to run it is not enough, there is a wiki for each game that tells you with settings and engines you must use for Cedega to run your game at its finest. Some require a lot of manipulation to run, but if you follow the steps you will get it running just fine.

Then again I know of folks who can't get Oblivion to run on their machines.

My video card is a Nvidia - Cedega seems to favor it against ATI video cards. I went with the yearly fee.
