I am going to give my school a speech that I made a while ago for a project. It is about the importance of saving gold. I also need this to pass, so please tell me what you think.

Many of you would choose gold instead of silver, right? But I bet you didn't know that a gold necklace, ring, or bracelet would cost more than what's in the average person's wallet. To tell you the truth, a troy ounce (about the weight of a penny) of gold would be over $1,000. This is because of the low amounts of gold and how rarely it is found. During the late 1840's, a man stumbled upon a deposit of gold and people rushed to the american west, soon wiping the U.S. out of gold. Now we mainly get imports of gold from Europe, Africa, and Asia.

This is a problem. Gold is going to be over $10,000 by 2050, granted that the Earth still has gold left and is still able to support life. We can't just sit by and let every bit of gold go to waste. We need to take a stand; we need to use silver. Many people would argue about silver. I would hear " But silver isn't beautiful" and "You don't get your money's worth with silver." Please listen to me. Get it through your thick skulls. Would you spend a 2 month's salary or a week's salary on a piece of jewelry? Having gold earrings or a gold Rolex wouldn't change anything; you would have shrapnel in your ears or you would be able to tell time.

I know, I know. People would think you had a lot of money because of what you are wearing, but is it worth it to lose a wad of money? Think about it, people think you have a lot of money even though you really spent it all on something that wouldn't really change a thing. I know I sound like a broken record, but we need to use more silver, copper, really anything but gold. In 2001 alone, almost 3,000 tons of gold was produced worldwide, most of it being turned into jewelry.

Every year, approximately 660 tons is used in medicine and technology, being used to help find the cure for cancer and help our computers work correctly. If we could save gold for the necessities instead of jewelry, we could have enough gold to last us hundreds of years. Would you rather wear a fancy watch and gold bracelets or would you like to stop cancer and other fatal diseases? Think about this, looking good or staying in good health or even staying alive? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that question out. I just hope you can understand.

Please leave some gold for our future, don't use it all on being vain and trying to impress people by making them think you still had the money you spent on the jewelry.

I liked the intro.
Middle part kind of had me like "uhh" felt like you came on too strong... not to mention "necessities" for some are different for others...
I say add more Facts in general.
Anyway, good luck with you speech bro

You'd better adjust your pricing too. This speech sounds like you made it a couple of years ago, because gold is over $1,000 an ounce already, thanks in part to the weakening value of the dollar.

I personally see gold as an investment opportunity. Even if it didn't have uses in technology and medicine, it's still considered valuable, especially by the vain. I don't care much for jewelry myself.

crunched the numbers, thanks for the heads up btw

gold is recycable, you know. People have been recycling gold for thousands of years. In fact, it is not that inprobable to say that a part of your Computer was once part of a queen's necklace...

True, but more people are wanting more gold, for more reasons than simple vanity, and we'll likely find less and less of it as time goes on, while some we use will be "lost". It's often used in ways that make recycling it practically impossible, such as using gold particles in glass to give it a certain look (such as fuming art glass objects to give them a pink pearlescent luster) or ability (glass with gold in or on it will reflect more radiation and act as an insulator).
Also, gold is used in practically every electronic gadget made these days, many of which only have a useful life of a few years before we toss them and get another one, and most of those still go into a landfill. Think of the millions of cellphones, mp3 players, computers, etc. that are tossed each year.
More people inhabiting the planet + more of them being able to afford gold + less gold being mined + many more uses for gold (mostly electronics) + the fact that some gold is "lost" due to inability to recapture/recycle it = less gold per person and ever higher prices.
