Who, in your opinion, would be the best actor (actress?) to play Richard in a live action LFG movie?

edit: And of course i make a spelling mistake in the title. dry.gif
Jonath
Daniel Day Lewis. Mostly because he'd spend the six months preparing for the role by eating babies and burning villages with hand-held flamethrowers.
Seriously the guy is method with a bolded, underlined, capital M

He'd be fantastic with Richards awesomely evil side. But he would fail completely at his epic humor. I give this actor a B-/B for Richards role.

edit: Though watching him method-act his way to homicidal maniacy would be worth many a laugh.

That's the point. The camera crew would follow him preparing for the role and film the resulting carnage. And DDL can do black comedy, just look at Bill the Butcher.

I have 2 questions to consider before making my decision.

Are there any songs to be sung in this fictional live action movie?

Who could also make the best resurgance of the girly voice from when he was trapped under the dragon? laugh.gif
Jonath
Actually come to think of it Mark Hammil would own the part (he's going to be in a body suit anyhow). He did the Joker so well that when I read Batman comics Mark's voice is in my head whenever I'm reading the Joker's bubbles. He's amazing with voices, I'd go as far as to call him our generation's Mel Blanc.

I suppose. Okay. I'll give him an B+/A- But that leads to the next answer...

Yes there will be atleast one musical number. It wouldn't be dick without it. And he will need to be able to pull of a girly voice laugh.gif

edit: CAn you give me a movie or something he was in? I don't know mark hammil by name.
Jonath
Do you think Kevin Conroy's voice would work as Richard? Because he can sing. Not sure about the girly voice though, Kev's a pretty manly sounding man.
Mark Hammil: Luke Skywalker
Anyways he's more accomplished as a voice actor. He played the Joker in Batman TAS (and Arkham Asylum), he does half the voices in Metalocalypse and a lot more
Bag-o-Legion-Ears
I see Richards voice as rather raspy. Even more so than Kevin's.
Jonath
Michael Ironside perhaps. He's played Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell and he was the voice of Darkseid in Superman TAS. When I was 8 years old his voice damn near gave me nightmares.
Bag-o-Legion-Ears
His voice is good but i doubt we can expect the same from his acting.
Jonath
Mike's acted too. If you ever see a balding soldier with a gruff voice in any movie chances are you're looking at Michael Ironside.
Ronin Drake
He was also the villain of Die Hard 3, though I'm not sure if it helps or hinders his case. wink.gif
Jonath
Yeah Mike's problem is that when it comes to live action he doesn't know how to turn people down, like Nicolas Cage.
Bag-o-Legion-Ears
And that may be why he was good in die hard 3 laugh.gif

And hey, it's not Richard is EVER tuned down.
Jonath
I think a winning combination would be Doug Jones as the physical actor (he's the guy who plays monsters in all of Del Toro's films) and Michael Ironside as the voice.
Bag-o-Legion-Ears
Can they be Richardesque funny?
Rurik
I'd have to say either Johnny Depp, or Robin Williams.
Bag-o-Legion-Ears
Hm. Johnny Depp, if he could pull of something similar to Jack Sparrow, would be pretty good.

But i would have to disagree with Williams.
Ronin Drake
For potential humor and having the gangly appearance, there's always Jim Carrey.

NO! ROAR! *eats*
Ronin Drake
What?

Tell me you don't enjoy the idea of Richard Fwooshing animals while talking out of butt. I dare you. *stare*

..................... *must resist* *resisted* He is funny, but not Richard funny, he is just retarded funny. And no way he could pull of Richards Awesome.
Ronin Drake
Understood. I didn't much feel he was a contendor, myself. I just felt he had the body type.

He's going into more serious roles now anyway.

mark hammil voiced the joker in the animated series & arkham asylum?

i hated him in star wars.
but i gotta say iv just got a whole new level of respect for him now.
that voice was/is perfect.
Rurik
Hammil will always be the ideal Joker voice if you ask me, can't see him doing Richard though. Cale maybe, if he used his natural voice, not his Joker type voice.
Jonath
Hamil has remarkable versatility in his voicing. Just look at his work in Metalocalypse. He could do Richard way better than the guy who's doing Richard's voice now. (at least in my opinion, the current guy's voice is way too serious sounding for Richard)

True. I see Richards voice a little more Deadpool'y. Both deep but silly.
Rurik
See, the guy doing Richard's voice right now is exactly how I'd picture Richard's voice, especially when singing. Jim Cummings could probably make an amazing voice for Richard too, but he's more of a voice actor than a physical live actor.
The Bunny
Alan Rickman. Methadron, Snape: pretty close to good ole' Dick...
Jonath
Nah Alan Rickman's good but his voice is a little dry for Richard. Plus his talents mostly lie in his stoic demeanor, Richard would need to be played by someone with a little pizazz.
redleg06
JIM CARREY
he could do the humor, and he has a decent build for the part. Also, a craggy voice will play into the role.
Jonath
Jim Carrey would work, but only if he brought his A-game (I mean he was the only good thing about the Series of Unfortunate Events film but I didn't like him as the Riddler)
redleg06
my point exactly. If he plays a popular main char, he brings not only his a game, but his * game

* game = extra credit, above 100%

OH MY GOD WE AGREED ON SOMETHING
Ronin Drake
I already suggested Carrey. BoLE turned him down.
redleg06
point being? he mad cause he didnt come up with it. AND BTW, he dont need to have funny of richard himself, but the writers do!

i just realised- 3-D dick, does that make it porno?

also, when u spoke harshly to me and threw it back at yo, did the impalation hurt?
GothicMoocow
Jack Nicholson
Ronin Drake
This whole thing reminds me of the video I saw of "If George Lucas directed Lord of the Rings"

Hayden Christianson was Aragorn.

Gandalf was done in 3D animation like Jar Jar Binks.

Probably lots of other stuff that was probably really funny that I can't remember, too.

Anyway, kinda getting at the idea of Richard being done in 3D. Not sure how "live action" (ie. close to reality) we want him anyway. wink.gif
redleg06
if so, then who voiceover for him?
Jonath

That's actually a fair point, I mean, Richard is just one of those types of characters who are probably best left as cartoons, because no matter who you cast, you'll never really be able to capture what makes the character who they are in the flesh, they may be able to act like the character, but they'll never really look like them.
Jonath
I thought the same thing about the Joker until the Dark Knight came out (yeah I know Nicholson was alright but I still didn't think he was anywhere close to the comics or the 90's series Joker)
Rurik
Heath Ledger Joker? He was okay, didn't really think he looked the part though, my favorite Joker will always be the Animated Series version, he looked the best, he sounded the best, hell to be honest him and Harley were the only reasons I even watched the series. I'd probably go with a CG Richard then, get the people who did the Shinigigami for the Death Note movies to do Richard, either cast the guy who does his voice already to voice him, or Jim Cummings, either one would be amazing.
Jonath
The thing about the Heath Ledger Joker was that he was so good (still not as good as the 90's cartoon, but still pretty damn good) that the fact he didn't look like the standard joker (short hair, angular features, and permanently bleached skin instead of just makeup) the audience still accepted him as an apt interpretation of the Joker. If Richard was played by an actor who didn't necessarily look much like Richard but still had an excellent performance appearance wouldn't matter as much.
redleg06
still, makeup and contacts make a HUGE difference.

a good costume and a great makeup artist can make up for everything that is lacking... except for acting skills.

That was my point, acting skills are more important than anything else when it comes down to it. Appearances and wardrobe come after.
Rurik
Well he was definitely better than the Freezinator, I'll give you that, and he was a better Joker than Nicholson, and this coming from a huge Nicholson fan, that just wasn't his type of role. Part of my concern with Richard would be the fact there are certain limitations inherent to a live actor, and they'd make it difficult to really be able to do Richard justice, sort of like Deadpool, case in point, live action Deadpool sucked, he sucked hard, like White House intern hard, albeit, the entire movie sucked too.
redleg06
also, how will you make a live person look dead, even with cosmetics?
