Wow...okay.
Firstly I love how the entire group is completely weirded out by the bunny worship while the Sisters are totally serious about it.
Secondly I think there's some credence to the theory that the Archmage is posing as their God. I mean sure he's certainly powerful but they seem to believe that their Bunny God created the world and assuming that's they're right I don't think the AM could have done that.

But how do they know it's THAT bunny? Also, the original sisters are definitely still human. So the blelf women were... summoned? Released? A result of combining the human sisters' power with the blelf sons' power?
On a side note, I agree with Richard... although archbunny makes a very cute godling in that panel.

I believe the Archmage travelled back in time in Bunny form at the dawn of their civilization and gave them religion. They made not think of him as their God so much as the messenger, physical manifestation, or Avatar of their God.
Edit: I think the Matron's about to sneeze in Richard's face. Darn that Richard, always covering himself in pepper.

I love that Krunch, the worldly scholar, is the member of the group that has retained the least amount of composure at the story.
Also, we can now definitively see that some of the Sisters are still pink.
Regarding the whole "Bunny God" issue, I think of it more as a matter of... Well. Every religion wants to believe that their deity was the one to create the world, because if they aren't that kind of powerful, then why bother? Just because it's written up in their holy book doesn't necessarily make it fact, even granted there actually being a bunny god.
There's also that chance that the Archmage could have been feeding whatever myths he needed to get the level of respect he desired/needed out of the Sisters for his grand scheme.

Its worth noting that the bunny next to the carrot has the Mitsubishi symbol on his forehead like the statues. And that even Vraay is looking at her mom like she's lost it.
Jonath
Oct 22 2009, 04:22 AM
There are plenty of religions with deities who didn't create the world, namely the Norse religion.
Krunch is probably weirded out the most because he thought in all his years with all his studying he had heard it all. It's like when an anthropologist hears something really crazy he has to take a step back and say "What the @#%#?"
I think Vraay more than anyone is put off by it. Everyone knows someone who's ashamed of their religious parents, especially if their parents belong to a weird sect.

Hehe. I'm going to keep my religious opinions to myself because I would probably piss off a whole lot of people. But I'm SO GLAD Richard said that! YES! Richard, if I had to choose a god it would be you. All hail god Richard, the Lord of Realism. Or maybe we should be hailing Sohmer and Lar instead. You guys rock.

Given his father's reputation as a conqueror of the north, I don't think he would have had all that much opportunity to learn about their culture.

I highly doubt "word has gotten out". There's a pretty much 99.9% chance that it hasn't gotten out. Why would it have?
Richard DOES win at religion, though. Richard's religion > Bunnyanity
If Richard was to convert all the sisters to his religion, that'd be some awesome army he'd have.

So, I don't usually post on forums, this is my first on this one, but I just couldn't resist sharing this delightful bit of information. In Koine Greek (or New Testament Greek) the word for "word" is logos, however if accented on the wrong syllable, logos means "rabbit." So, if we take the prologue to the Gospel of John and substitute "rabbit" for "word, we have the following:
In the beginning was the Rabbit, and the Rabbit was with God, and the Rabbit was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
Nice, huh?

Well, in a sense, the rabbti/bunny could conceivably be seen as a fertility symbol, even if not associated as a Goddess, per so.

I think that even that level of association between Christianity and Judaism is a stretch. Most of the important early Christians were not Jewish (perhaps ironically, the people most responsible for promoting Christianity were the Romans).

Ya know, I wonder why the dig at Christianity (and yes, it is a dig at Christianity. The whole speech given by the elf is almost word for word the first Chapter of Genesis, the first book of the Christian Bible).
Is the author simply not talented enough to create his own fictional religion? If so, why risk angering or upsetting any of his Christian readers? Was it truly needed? Or perhaps he thought that by using a bunny he would divert enough attention away from this slight that we wouldn't notice? Perhaps he assumes most of his readership is atheist or pagan and thus wouldn't care? Why target Christianity in particular?
I never understood why any author of a web comic would go out of his or her way to intentionally insult a religious group. I suppose they want to feel "edgy", but that's simply a guess on my part.
I am more then willing to admit I'm wrong, that perhaps the author has more in store that truly separates this comic from a real world religious belief. Seeing as how we can only read small chunks at a time, it's entirely possible.
I assume that with the effort the writer put in to almost copy the Creation story of Genesis verbatim, he must have a reason for doing so. Perhaps the writers of the comic could explain themselves?
I do enjoy this comic, however if it simply devolves into one childish insult after another on an aspect of my life that I and others hold seriously, I will move on. I hope it doesn't come to that.
