So don't eel to offended if he simply disagrees with a certain viewpoint, we all have that right.

I highly doubt he was thinking of Islam or Judaism when he wrote this script. I might be wrong, but regardless it has nothing at all to do with my original point.
Perhaps I haven't stated it too clearly.
Why would a web comic author risk alienating viewers with a dig at one (or three if you really insist on making that point) of the worlds major religions?

Looks like I was right. Some of the Sisters are still human (in appearance, at least).
Oh yay, religion has come to LFG. I hope everyone can keep this civil.
No-so-subtle hint: That means play nice, or we whip out the banhammer.
I do not want to have to come back to this topic and clean it out because a few people couldn't behave.
If you've read all of LICD and LFG, you'll notice Sohlar will take potshots at absolutely anything. Nothing is off-limits, and honestly, nothing should be off limits. Everything should be open to questioning and discussion. I'm not for making fun of religion (or any other serious issue) just for the purpose of stirring up shit and pissing off folks, but no one's got the right to say others have to respect, believe and honor the same things as they.
I was raised Catholic and attended a private Catholic school for years. I got tired of the attitude; everyone had to bow down in the face of their beliefs and no one was ever allowed to say anything even remotely disrespectful about their religion. Nevermind the fact that they said bad things about other religions all the time. Blatant hypocrisy has turned a lot of people off when it comes to religion, and I'm still trying to deprogram all the crap they brainwashed into my head.
If they have enough faith in their own beliefs, what others believe, do or say shouldn't matter. After all, if they truly believe they've chosen the right path and they'll be proven right in the end, why would they feel the need to be so defensive and be so obsessed with stamping out any dissention?
Don't take it personally. I seriously doubt it's a stab at organized religion. It just happened to fit in with what Sohmer needed for this page, and he's not afraid to use it because a few people are a bit too sensitive about it.

Richard, if I had to choose a god it would be you. All hail god Richard, the Lord of Realism. Or maybe we should be hailing Sohmer and Lar instead. You guys rock.
Don't worry about pissing people off. The problem with religious people is they tend to get mad when their faith is criticized, yet they have no problem criticizing people who do not share the same faith as they do, or those who have no faith at all. Too bad religion is so touchy... but that's what happens when you have a belief system with no fact behind it. Turnabout is fair play.
I also find it interesting how just about every religion will think they are the ones being made fun of, since they believe they are the only valid religion.
That being said, I have a few questions:
Question the first: How do I become a bunnyist? Is there an ear or a fur requirement?
Question the second: Does this mean I have to give up rabbit stew, or does it mean I will have to eat more of it (you know, eating the body of your God, etc... )
Question the third: Is Richard going to have to get in trouble for fwooshing the bunny way back in the beginning? It WAS pretty flagrant, after all... or is Felbunny the type of deity as in the old testament, fire and brimstone, who regards mere mortal bunnies as mere insects to live and die for its pleasure?

I don't necessarily enjoy tweaking religious people, I just refuse to consider their beliefs sacrosanct and beyond question. If people decide to pass jusdgement on others for whatever they say, be prepared to have the reasons for your judgements questioned.
The thing I liked about this comic is as far as anyone knows, there is as much chance the world was created by a bunny as any other creationist theory. That isn't tweaking anyone... it is just what I beleive. The fact people may get tweaked about it... well.. ok, I enjoy it a little.

Ya know, I wonder why the dig at Christianity (and yes, it is a dig at Christianity. The whole speech given by the elf is almost word for word the first Chapter of Genesis, the first book of the Christian Bible).
Is the author simply not talented enough to create his own fictional religion? If so, why risk angering or upsetting any of his Christian readers? Was it truly needed? Or perhaps he thought that by using a bunny he would divert enough attention away from this slight that we wouldn't notice? Perhaps he assumes most of his readership is atheist or pagan and thus wouldn't care? Why target Christianity in particular?
I never understood why any author of a web comic would go out of his or her way to intentionally insult a religious group. I suppose they want to feel "edgy", but that's simply a guess on my part.
I am more then willing to admit I'm wrong, that perhaps the author has more in store that truly separates this comic from a real world religious belief. Seeing as how we can only read small chunks at a time, it's entirely possible.
I assume that with the effort the writer put in to almost copy the Creation story of Genesis verbatim, he must have a reason for doing so. Perhaps the writers of the comic could explain themselves?
I do enjoy this comic, however if it simply devolves into one childish insult after another on an aspect of my life that I and others hold seriously, I will move on. I hope it doesn't come to that.

The question of how they know he is *the* bunny and not just *a* bunny is something I am told is in the bible. Humans are supposed to be able to recognise agents of god and the devil, to counter the argument that the best thing the devil could have done to weaken god's chosen people was to call himself jesus and reform their religion into something that sweeps the globe, loses the original message, crusades, witch burnings, etcetcetc.

Eh, there've been worse reasons for founding an entire belief system involving gender segregation, funktastic robes, and the fertility symbols of past religions/cultures. At least, I think there are...
Anyways, I'm kinda disappointed with this. While I appreciate the Jeff Albertson reference at the end, the rest of it just... While I can see the reasoning behind it, I don't really think the humor it creates is really worth the controversy. Some people just don't appreciate having the central concepts of their spiritual beliefs parodied. Sure, you get some laughs, but when your forum mods have to jump in shouting, "NO BODY PANIC!" then you're clearly taking a risk - one I think LFG is good enough not to have to take. It short circuits the appeal, distracts from the humor, and just dilutes the entire effort.

Really their religion is no more ridiculous at its base than Christianity is. Seeing as God is an inherently formless being there's no reason to think that God wouldn't take the form of something cute and approachable like a Bunny to appeal to mortals, that is if God would ever waste Its valuable time micromanaging us little germs.
