There's this awesome place i go to called Battle Den. Im great friends with the guys that run it, and i had the great idea of throwing a halloween party in the place. itll pull in customers and just be pretty freakin rad in the general.

Battle Den is the nerdy gathering spot in my community. There's xbox360's, tables set up for Warhammer and Warhammer 40k, and other tables for Magic:The Gathering or other tabletop games. Theres food and drink and greatness all around.

So I'm trying to think of actual halloween kinda stuff to do for the party.

What I've got so far:

$20 entry, $15 w/ costume (actual costume, not a t-shirt and a mask)
Games, pizza, and soda

Games
(*= co-op/multiplayer)
Alone in the Dark
Condemned 2
Left 4 Dead*
Dead Rising
CoD: Nazi Zombies*
----
Warhammer 40k Zombies- Tim or Willy, the Zombie Masters, or one of the store owners, runs an army of zombies and the opposing army tries to survive the horde or wipe it out.
----
Arkham Horror

-----

Costume Contest- Prizes yet to be determined

What else could we do?

I am SO excited about Halloween! I have three parties lined up. biggrin.gif I have to go get a kick ass costume...for the contests and all that. XD

I don't have great party ideas, though. I'm not the party thrower in my group of friends. I'm the booze-buyer...and you're having soda, so not my area of expertise. At the last Halloween party I attended they did this really wicked scary story/play thing that had ME freaked out, and I don't get scared of things like that often. If you've got some drama kids going you could probably get them to put on a bit of a show. Haunted house type things usually go over well...toilet paper mummy contests...XD apple bobbing...don't know why that's a Halloween staple, but it always goes down at our parties. Either bobbing, or tying them to a string from the ceiling and trying to catch it with your teeth...harder than it sounds.

Why IS apple bobbing a Halloween thing?! O_o *looks it up*
Aeriosa
bobbing for apples probably goes back to the fact that halloween falls around harvest season. i dont remember the origin of halloween, but i think it has something to do with harvest.

yeah, this will be a booze-less party. its an under 21 venue. theres a bar across the street for the over 21 nerds that congregate here.

im not sure what other kinds of activities we need. we need to pull as many people into this shop as possible. what kinds of things would pull people in that dont normally come here anyway?

Three parties? o.O And...penguin costume? wink.gif You should probably remember to get your costume earlier this year, than you did last year. tongue.gif

Yeah, I think it has to do with the harvest season. That, or caramel apples have to do with luring kids in. They're hella tantalizing and the such. Sounds like a witch's type of 'luring' food. Someone died in a supernatural episode while bobbing for apples. Heh.

Things that would pull in customers that wouldn't normally go there? Well, considering that it's halloween...wouldn't most people be going to parties that are cheaper than that (since costumes cost a lot?) or...getting drunk somewhere? I wouldn't really know, but it sounds to me like anyone who enjoys the nerdy things would already be going...and anyone who doesn't already has someplace to be. ohmy.gif

That point aside...I don't know how much room you have. You could play a roleplaying game where everyone acts as their character in some sort of scenario. Considering the crowd, it'd probably be really fun to see who can be their costumed character the best. I think it'd be really fun.

Besides that, I can't think of much that you didn't list. Zombie dnd session? That would take all night.

Prizes should be something from the store. Most of the people there would like something from said store. Plus, if they get a prize from there, people are more likely to shop there...gets them thinking about the merchandise. A coupon or something like that would be great for a low tier prize. Causes them to come in and look around to buy what they want, plus possibly more.

If you had room, you could do a left 4 dead tourny of some kind. Either survival of the fittest in survival mode, or if you wanted to play versus, you could do a couple maps of that. Dunno.
Aeriosa
ive been trying to think of some kind of video game tourny we could have. those always seem to bring in lots of people.

how would that work for left 4 dead? could we get one for CoD: Nazi Zombies, too? like... last one standing or something? i dunno.
Zoran
What I would recommend as in a costume prize is one of the shops (I'm guessing its a shop) items. Like an Xbox or a playstation three game dealing with Zombies or something with your theme.

Also if you have the resources available (Or the room). You can have a dance contest, and ask via fliers or whichever to bring their own CDs/song to dance to their moves.

Another thing, what I usually do, which is fun but can be a bit tricky is the no itch game. You can pick a body part (Mainly the nose) and give them 5 pieces of paper. In the shape of a pumpkin or a ghost if you wish, and if they scratch their nose and if someone calls on it, they have to give their ghost(s) up to that person. At a certain time you can give a prize to a person with the most ghosts, if there is a tie try to split or have a same valued item to the other dude/dudet.

Left 4 dead would be a team tourny. Whichever team survives the longest in survival on certain maps (maybe accumulated time over various maps). The other option for L4D is to have teams duel in versus mode. That one is harder to monitor because the fairest way would be to see who does better on a full campaign....but that takes about an hour with a good team. Considering that it's a party, the versus thing probably isn't the greatest idea.

I've never played the zombie mode on CoD. However, I'm assuming that it's a survival game type like in L4D. The problem with doing last man standing is that everyone will be for themselves. I guess the rounds would go fast...but is it possible to screw each other over? Like in L4D, you could start each other on fire or shoot teammates if it was last man standing. It would likely get chaotic pretty fast and take the fun out of it. I think, anyway. Hehe.

P.s. Zoran - where is that falcon kick scene from?
JediWolfSister
Your mention of the video game tourney reminded me of weekends at the camp I worked at. Bunch of guys would use the projector screen in the dining hall for super smash mele. I dunno if you can rent the equipment for where you're at, or have a spot to set it up, but if so, for some stupid reason it's a million times more fun to play big tourneys on big screens.

lol with this gaggle of people im not sure a dance contest would be the best idea.

and no welcome back from you either, Zoran? gosh.

ill talk to the guys at the shop and see which they think would work better. we could also leave some wiggle room for the players in the tourny, see which they like best.

As if you ever say hi to me!

And don't forget to wear zombie masks.
Super Gamer 117
Here's a list of videogames:
Smash Bros. Brawl
Team Fortress 2
Halo 3 or ODST
Little Big Planet tongue.gif
Old style Mario
WarHawk
Guitar Hero

I suggest choosing mostly multiplayer games cause gamers hate it when they have to wait for a long time to play something.

Also, You should have some extreme music goin on in the back. But make sure it's good music for the occasion, you don't want to be playing Soft Country at a time like that.

Jesus, why would we be playing country anyway? BLEEEGH

hrm... we have like... 8 xboxes or something at the store. and 4 or 5 computers... thats it, though, so mario, SSBB, and little big planet arent gonna work.

i was tryin to think of somewhat scary games anyway. halloween theme and all that.

every once in a while we have a Battle Den All-Nighter, where you play $20 to play games all night and get pizza and soda. its a really good deal cuz normally games are like $5 an hour, and soda is like 75 cents. they order the pizza from somewhere else >.>;

im kind of trying to do that kind of thing, only halloween themed. the whole point of putting this kind of thing on is to make the store some money. as awesome as the place is, they often have a hard time payin the bills.

HI ZORAN! =D
