Demon in Shades of Gray
I just saw 2 new movies this weekend (someone else paid, of course) and am just aching to tear into them right and proper.

Should I just go ahead and do this here? Mod input requested...

Demon in Shades of Gray
Shoot first and ask questions later? Sure, why not...

Ok, so I saw "The Number 23" with Jim Carrey. Supposedly, this time he was REALLY going to play it serious. Honest. It's a scary movie, right? it's a SERIOUS movie.

Oops... Hey, who spilled some "Sin City" film noire style into this movie? That's not supposed to be there. Just have to cover it up with some bad acting... Oops again... Look at all this art-film reject imagery. Let's toss in a special effect or two to make sure no one catches that... You didn't catch it, did you? Because we only BEAT YOU IN THE GODDAMN HEAD WITH IT!!!

Oh yeah... the ending... Did you see it coming? Because I was sure freaking expecting it. Seriously... was there really any doubt?

Oh yeah... and your whole life revolves around 23... name, birthday, day you met your wife... yeah... 23. SO WHAT?!?!?! Would this really cause anyone else to do anything more than go "Huh... what do ya know?" Not really something that would drive me crazy. Sorry.

Yeah... During this supposedly "serious" movie... I was laughing my ass off. SUCH a freaking B-movie...
Who stole my display name?
Oh yea but everyone does that. Final destination 3 anybody? LAWL
Zasp
Ya it wasn't that good but it didn't want to make me walk out of the theater... and all my friends thought it was so over the top we kept trying to add everything up to 23 or taking the 23 letter/word to see what something said... That was worth it right there.

Here is a good spot. If there are a lot of on topic replies, we may just make a movies forum. But that means ON TOPIC here and there not offf topic =)

You just had to ruin it didn't you? The big red button has been put on display who will push it first?

And has anyone seen Ghost Rider? I've been tempted to spend money to see it but no one I know has seen it.

It's a disapointment... You can really tell where the money went in the film, which was the CGI department. The whole movie was one big special effect. Not to mention Nicolas Cage was seriously on something in this film, like most of his acting was really over the top. So much so it was almost comical, really I was laughing at him at some points. However his whole transformation into ghost rider wasn't bad. If anything that was something I really did enjoy since I have a respect for what it takes to do CGI, quite impressive. Yet is it enough to go and see the movie in theaters?

Nah, I'd say if you're not a die hard ghost rider fan. Wait for it to come out on dvd.
Jimmy
I doubt I'll be seeing any new flicks between now and when 300 comes out, at which point I'll probably be disappearing into a movie theatre for a solid month.

Breach looks like it might be pretty good though, I might go see that this coming weekend.

That's the other movie I saw. Good thing I didn't have to pay to see it...

Don't waste your money.

Seriously? Spending money to go see the Battle of THermopylae distorted and butchered? Why?
Jimmy
Because it looks entertaining, and I know enough history, especially on the ancient world, to seperate fact from fiction. I'm not saying it's going to be an accurate historical drama, but it does look like a hell of a lot of fun, and I reserve the right to consume mind candy every now and again.
Zasp
And thanks from steerin me away from Ghost Rider... lately a lot of movies have just been pure trash. It's kinda sad.

I want to see 300... just because I enjoy what Frank Miller brings to the table...
ZiN
Where does it say that 300 should be taken as a source of education on the age of the Spartans? It's a movie, movies are ment to be entertaining. 300 appears to be just that while mixing in some historical content. Sure it's not the most accurate but judging by the trailer they have quite a few of the basics, I'm not refering to their choice of battle armor or lack there of either. It has brillant cinematics and colours which I'd love to see on the big screen, even if the plot sucks I know I am going to enjoy it's artistic side.

Well, to be fair the man has two modes. Unbelievably over the top and so serious it's boring as hell.

Why he doesn't get picked to play as super villians escapes me. I mean, that's when unbelievably over the top is fun.

Way to be a thoughtful poster. We're just trying to go on our merry little way and be jerks, bitching about movies and you have to come in an rain on our parade by pointing things out.

How would you like it if we pointed things out to you?
Ballscratch
I will rape, murder, pillage and burn to see 300 right now.
Verbose
Or for a Diet Coke with Lemon, I imagine.

It doesn't take much to set you off.
Ballscratch
I've done 3 of the 4 already.

Try to guess which!
Verbose
Aha, it's a trick question. If he's done all four, he has also done three of the four.

*coughs* If you want a movie forum, don't fucking derail this thread.....

Moving on....

300 looks awesome. I've seen alot of the trailers and was reading up on it before it came out. There is also a 2nd Sin City Flick which will be coming out soon too, based on the second book. I can't wait for that. Loved the first Siin City. Then again, who wouldn't with all those hot girls in it.....hot girls with swords. wow.

A few other movies I look forward to, Obviously, would be Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Spiderman 3 (Yah....spiderman....*dances*)

Ones I don't look forward to....Incrdible Hulk 2....yeah...NO.
Jimmy
Spiderman 3 I'm excited for, and I'm...I dunno...cautiously optimistic about the Transformers movie coming out in July. I can only hope that they don't fubar it into the ground. The second Sin City should be excellent, I think Miller's producing that as well. And 10 days and counting until 300 comes out! biggrin.gif cool.gif
Ballscratch
It's funny because Sin City and 300 are being made by the same guy - Frank Miller.
Kayhynn
I forgot about transformers.

But they took out the transforming sound.

And bumblebee is a CORVETTE.

WTF.....

Damn. Well, there goes that movie.
Ballscratch
Bumblebee always had the heart of a corvette.
Kayhynn
Well, there was an explanation in the reasoning behidn it (I need to hit the modelers).

The modelers were assumed to have seen the cartoon as a kid. They ahdn't. they were going by descriptions. Well to them, Bumblebee came off as a corvette, so that was the model and animations they made for CGI. When it was found by the creators, it was too late on the schedule the were on to remodel and redo it. But they assured in the interview, Bumblebee would still be BB as a corvette.

I'm not sure about that.....oh well.
Ballscratch
Have you seen the trailer for it? It's...soul awakening. I feel alive just by watching it. The sheer sense of scale they exude rocks me.

The Harry Potter movies are just bad. Fact. The books are just barely amusing enough to overlook the cliched, emo and above all stupid characters but the movies are bad. How do you cast a Harry with brown eyes when, on every second page, Rowling references his Emerald Green Eyes.

Spiderman should be okay (given that they manage to overcome Toby McGuire's wooden performances in the previous two, not the mention the general punchability of Kirsten Dunst).

The original Sin City, as well as the new one, are actually based on different short stories rather than a book. He picked them because a) they're awesome and cool.gif they fit in the time he had to make a movie in.

300 is going to be a brutal retelling of an impressive military feat with a lot of spear=penis imagery. What's not to like?

I'm actually a big fan of the Battle Of Thermapoly. I've done a lot of research on it, I think it's extremely impressive. The movie, whilst only LOOSELY based on it, should be an impressive watch.

Meh. Most of the characters, minus a couple, really aren't all emo. However I hope she kills all the kids off in the last book.

*eyes shift* what?

Yeah short stories....I've read alot of his works....that's why it all runs togehter.

300 is going to be my type of movie. Bloodfest. I liked Gladiator for much the same reasons.

I'm too jaded to hope for a decent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. My mind is rejecting the concept as semantically invalid.

At least my kid will like it. He's all into them now.

I blame the Caffe Latte generation.

The TMNT is going to be an animated movie.

And yes, it's the battle of Thermopylae. I've been looking for ages for the correct spelling.

Yes, yes I am aware that the third was down right out to lunch but the first two were not bad. I actually liked the second one, many little quriky jokes that play to my sense of humor. Not to mention Ninja Rap is catchy. wink.gif Ninja, ninja, RAP!. Ok I'm done.

But this one is animated so it should be a nice change of pace. But of course I know many will bitch that sherdder isn't in it, cry me a river.

Stab them. Right inna fase. This is no screaming at Captain Planet to just kill them, this is heresy of the worst order. From what I've heard about it, I have no interest in the Transformers movie at all. They changed all the character models (from what I hear, Optimus Prime isn't even a truck anymore) and they took away our sounds and who knows what ungodliness they inflicted upon my precious Decepticons?

Harry. Biggest emo in literature, barring one highly notable homosexual in another series. The rest of the little bastards are all so teen angst it sickens me. Plus, they consistently do stupid things. You think they'd realise by the third or fourth year that their life follows literary cliches and would try and cut off Voldemort (who is a stupid and inefficient villian, also) at the pass. So to speak.

And aside from Draco before he got all emo about having to murder an old, dying man, I agree with the child murdering.

This adaptation is the Transformers' first American feature film since The Transformers: The Movie in 1986, (though unrelated) and also sees the return of Peter Cullen as the voice of Autobot leader Optimus Prime, 20 years since the original cartoon ended. Due to the new complex design aesthetic of the Transformers, the film has had intense Internet speculation, and has a release date of July 4, 2007 in the United States and Canada.
Well at least Optimus Prime will be the same.....

QUOTE
Bumblebee (1974 Chevrolet Camaro, later reformatted as the 2008-2009 version of the same vehicle[57]): Bumblebee is the underdog character and a scout for the Autobots, looking for the Allspark,[58] as well as the Transformer most connected to humans.[51] He ends up being purchased by Spike Witwicky, who is looking to buy his first car.[4] His robot mode has been constructed as a physical prop in addition to a CG model.[9] Bumblebee is 5.1m (17 feet) tall.[55] Bumblebee's arsenal includes an arm cannon and shoulder missiles.[57] Bumblebee's voice box was damaged in battle.[58] In his original G1 incarnation, Bumblebee was a Volkswagen Beetle, but to producer Don Murphy's disappointment,[59] he was changed to a Camaro, with Bay wanting to avoid a comparison with Herbie the Love Bug.[60]

Okay its a camaro....I'm half awake...corvette was the first C that came to mind.

Who do they have as the antagonist if not Shredder? From memory, he and the Foot Clan offered more than half of the villianous forces.

Decepticons
The Decepticons are a mix of characters from the various incarnations of Transformers. Megatron and Starscream have appeared in most storylines including G1. Frenzy is from G1, whilst the rest are new characters. Their alternate modes primarily consist of military vehicles and aircraft, loaned by the U.S. military to director Michael Bay.[6]
Megatron (Stealth bomber[70]) Megatron will be presented with some backstory regarding the cause of the war,[51] in that he co-ruled Cybertron with Optimus Prime before desiring full power over the Allspark.[58] He dwarfs the Autobots at 10.3m (34 feet) tall,[55] and has an arm cannon.[71] Images of Megatron's original Cybertronian form were leaked on the 24 August 2006.[72] Don Murphy had the head scuplt changed,[73] with the original battle mode becoming the standard mode and a new "crowned" battle mode being created to replace the original battle mode.[74] A model of Megatron's legs were built for the film.[75] While his alt form has been changed for the purposes of the movie, Megatron is best-known for his original G1 incarnation, in which he turned into a Walther P38. This was changed, however, as the writers felt "it’s like Darth Vader turning into his own lightsaber and having someone else swing him around."[2] Megatron's alternate mode had been a jet in Transformers: Energon. Megatron's discovery by Sector 7 makes him the ancestor of modern technology.[76] Tom DeSanto said Megatron will assume an Earth form in the film.[77]
Starscream (F-22 Raptor): Starscream is described as always looking to best Megatron; Megatron's traditional disdain for Starscream, and vice-versa, will remain intact.[51] Starscream leads the Decepticons in Megatron's absence,[78] and stands at roughly 9.7m (32 feet) tall, though his body is a simian shape.[79]
Blackout (MH-53 Pave Low): At one point he was called Vortex[80] as well as Incinerator.[81] His name is used by a helicopter Decepticon in the recent Transformers: Energon toyline, though the name also had G1 roots. Blackout is the largest Decepticon,[51] can disable enemies with EMP-like blasts,[51] and can wield his helicopter blades as a shield.[82] Blackout's feet were built as props.[83]
Brawl (Modified M1 Abrams): Although original reports suggested that this character would be named "Devastator", it was specifically cited that this was an example of a character whose name was not finalized.[36] Confirmed as "Brawl", his triple-barreled turret and a "pissed off" personality evokes the Combaticon of the same name.[51]
Barricade (Saleen-modified Ford Mustang Police car) - Barricade is the Decepticon scout/hunter, hiding among the humans disguised as a symbol of authority.[51] His hands, which are attached to wheels, can also become spikes.[84]
Frenzy (CD player): Originally scripted to be Soundwave, he was supposed to be a boombox that transformed into a human-sized robot.[51] Don Murphy had said he would have the character a major part of the sequel instead of sidelining him.[3] The character was first renamed Soundbyte,[85] before being renamed Frenzy in homage to the G1 character who was a minion of Soundwave. His role in the film is that of a spy among humans for the Decepticons, using his alternate mode as a disguise. Frenzy pops out of Barricade's chest,[86] similiar to how the G1 version does with Soundwave. Frenzy has four arms, is thin and shoots blades disguised as CDs from his chest.[85]
Bonecrusher (Buffalo H Mine-Protected Vehicle): Subservient to Megatron, he is described as being the closest to a Constructicon as could be in the movie.[51] Bonecrusher has his head in his chest and long arms, and wields blades on his shoulders. He skates with wheels acting as feet.[87] Bonecrusher has his name stamped on.[88]
Scorponok (Mechanical Scorpion): Scorponok will be the closest to his Beast Wars incarnation character wise, as well as an example of animal Transformers such as the Dinobots.[51] Scorponok is deployed from Blackout and can fire rockets.[18]
Ballscratch
Actually, from what I've seen, Optimus has the classic face plate.

You have to feel sorry for the original Megatron though. It's pretty hard to be anything but a bad guy when you transform into a freaking GUN.
