Obama has given his speech on the health care reform. What do you think?
What points do you particularly like? Which can't you stand? Why? Discuss.

Ultimately, the "Healthcare Reform" is anapporiately named.
The reason why healthcare is broken is due to many number of things. Wasteful spending on tests all the time (in your $20 doctor visit, he'll run 7-8 tests on possible diseases which are only remotely assocaited with your symptoms. Yes, it may be a cold, but just in case, let's make sure it's not Ebola). Doctors are covering their asses, and insurance can't stop them from running tests. Patients don't care because their cost of the visit doesn't change, but it hurts them in the end. Also, if a doctor only tests for the appropriate (or doesn't even test because it's clear what you have) there's no incentive, he just loses on possible profits.
Tort - Countless lawsuits against doctors. Yes, sometimes there are bad doctors, but sometimes bad things happen, they're just human. We should A. Make lawsuits against doctors more difficult and B. Put limits on how much you can sue for. Save billions (50-100 billion estimate).
There are some other points, but the Healthcare plan right now is aimed at opening up Insurance beyond the private market (so individuals could purchase it, which is a reasonable idea).
Open a government controlled insurance (Bad idea. How do you compete with a company that doesn't worry about profit, doesn't answer to share holders, and if they're doing poorly, they just tax the nation more?) Especially without curtailling the costs of Healthcare, why would we open up the country to the enormous costs and at the same time drive the Insurance companies out of business?
Require everyone to be insured. Eh, reasonable maybe? But at the same time, we don't have enough doctors as is at the moment, and they're leaving the industry in droves. This only means longer waiting lines and more pressure on resources which are depleting themselves.
Make insurance companies insure people with pre-existing conditions. The Insurance companies have already stated if this is done in an equitable manner, the can do this fairly and without jacking premiums.
Major Concerns - Public option is a deal breaker in my opinion, and the bill needs to be directed more at cutting costs of Healthcare, and less to creating a large tax deficit for the future americans to deal with.
Message from Future Self - Damn you past America for screwing me over so much.

Blanket statements are counterproductive.
"The reason why healthcare is broken"... is because Kanye West deems it?
If things become nationalized, at least the blame will shift somewhat from care providers. Never completely, of course, but a different perspective may be gained for a while. I believe that is the general consensus.
"Altruistic" bureaucracy is simply turning in on itself, as always. (Let's see who gets THAT joke...)
Hips will always need to be mended, as well as bullet holes.
