Hey, I got this really crazy idea while writing on the topic about Richard´s past as Lord Ashendale. What if they made a movie called "LFG origins: Richard"? Would you wanna see it? I´m sure I would. Of course I´m thinking of "X-men origins: Wolverine" here. Wolverine and Richard both have a few things in common. They are both the coolest characters in their respective comics, their teams would never make it without them and, most important of all: They both seem to have more or less lost their memories. It is clearly hinted that Richard has (at least partially) lost his memory since he says that the memories of his life before he was turned are coming back to him, followed by a lot of stuff about his destiny and why he is helping Cale. Maybe Sohmer has already thought of this, or maybe he has planned something completely different, but I at least think this is worth considering.

If you find similarities between Wolverine and anyone it's because Wolverine is a generic character that has become the template for all "super special awesome interesting badass anti-hero characters who can't die"
On the subject of the movie: that's kind of the plot: it's supposed to explain Richard's origins. If it ever actually comes out.

Yeah, you´re pobably right! Characters such as Wolverine tend to effect the entire genre. And besides, if there is any fictional character who´s cooler than Richard it sure is Wolverine. And about the movie, well then others have thought like me. Though there are those who say that the plot should be something completely else. Rumors, I guess. I totally wanna see that movie when it comes!!!

I'd have to disagree with wolverine is the coolest character in x-men... tongue.gif laugh.gif

And the origins comic was way better than the movie. rolleyes.gif

But i wouldn't mind to know a bit more of Richards past smile.gif
Jonath
Wolverine is over-rated, he steals the spotlight from other characters too much and his fans tend to think he can beat Superman in a straight fight. I remember recently seeing a debate on a VS website that pitted him against Galactus. blink.gif One of the arguments put forward by his fanboys was that "OMG Wolverine knows pressure points and he's immortal"
Aside from that he's alright. I just wish he didn't show up in every comic just to drive up sales.

Don't get me wrong, i like the character just way over-rated as you said. =)

And there is other characters i like more.

Wolverine is the coolest character in X-men, you just haven´t realized it yet!

First Richard and now Wolverine! You betray them all!!! laugh.gif Just kidding you. While Wolverine is definitely the coolest in X-men there are lots of other cool characters in X-men and you must always remember that X-men is a team! They work together. Wolverine, though, works as well alone as all the others do together! He wouldn´t win against Superman, though! That´s impossible. That´s pretty much why I´ve never been such a great fan of Superman: He´s simply too powerful! Richard against Superman, now that would be another story! Perhaps Richard and Wolverine together against Superman, to even the odds. Something for the movie? Nah, probably not!

Which brings me to my next point: when you have super-powerful characters the best stories about them involve their powers being useless, usually psychological problems get in the way or some such. Wolverine and Richard both lack good stories that develop their characters beyond: "OMG they're so 1337"
On the subject of Wolverine: I really hate how a lot of the artists forget that he's a really short guy. I recently saw a comic where they drew him as the same height as Thor! Thor the six and a half foot tall Norse God! Wolverine's 5'3"!

This isn't the Wolverine discussion topic, folks.

unsure.gif Oh right.... umm... as I was saying the movie is probably going to cover Richard's origins. It's working title is LFG: the Origins of Dick. I'm pretty sure at least.

Logan! Ah. I remember one cartoon X-Men series that forgot he was Canadian, apparently, because they gave him such a faux Aussie accent. That's one reason I liked the first X-Men movie (the more recent batch), Hugh Jackman is Australian, but he managed to make Wolverine sound passably Canadian (actually, that amused the Hell out of me).

The name Hugh Jackman calls to mind MST3k for me, which is also a good thing. Hey, who doesn't recall Tom and Crow with the "I'm huge" segments? Well, aside from someone who has never watched MST3k, that is.

I'm so looking forward to the LFG movie. Maybe it will cover a couple of origins, and not just richard's, though Richard's should be awesome. How did our favorite homicidal maniac with a heart of gold and a huge fwoosh come to be?

I'd like to learn more on Richard's village(I wanna see if he sends them out to massacre other villages)
Jonath
The village is probably Lord Ashendale's fief.

That's actually what I'd assumed, too.

I think what we need is Cale backstory, we know Richard's name before he was turned, we know nothing of Cale before meeting Richard.
Right now the theory I stand by is that he rolled a ranger without reading up on the fluff (thus not knowing his race was evil) and he immediately met a high level warlock who decided to torment him.

What's to know? He started off as a lawful anal paladin wannabe who read far too many Drizzt books, and then he was incinerated, and sadly Gid messed up the resurrection spell and forgot to put the centipede back in with the ashes.

I agree with most of that except I have no idea where you got Paladin from, no Paladin uses a bow and has a panther as a pet.

Paladin wannabe, from his original personality archetype. Ever seen a ranger get down on his knees and swear his allegiance to a half-trorc?

If she was hot like Benny? Yeah a ranger would do it.

Most rangers I've ever played would have killed her, then great cleaved the nearest enemy but then I tend to play evil characters. laugh.gif

I don't play evil characters, but then I usually don't have the integrity to play overly good characters, I'm usually 75% good 25% evil.

I can do good, I just can't have fun with it unless it's a Robin Hood archetype, robbing from the rich to give to the *Coughmuttercough*. I have the most fun though with the Richard or Black Mage style. tongue.gif
