Do characters that I've created count? No? Well, then let me give this a bit more thought, then.
Hmm. I think I'll go with Jak & Daxter as a two-part answer.
Jak is the stalwart, and often silent, hero that just works to get things done as necessary. Daxter is the snarky asshole who somehow manages to get away with it. As a team, they are all I would want to be in a hero.

Kael'thas Sunstrider, the whole reason I started playing WoW. All he wanted to do was help his people, the Sin'dorei. To cure them of their addiction and give them a new salvation. In fact, it was love for his people that drove him to Outland where he sided with Illidan and unknowingly sealed his own fate. The man was a hero, he just didn't go out as one.

I'm not really sure who my 'heroes' are. I never... really had anyone I could call a hero. I gravitate towards most chaotic characters, be they neutral, evil, or good. I also look up to people who follow there own morality. People who do what they do, are willing to admit it, and won't back down or be ashamed.
I guess if I were to name a few people I'd consider heroes, I'd say Marilyn Manson, Jack Sparrow, Rorschach-- and I suppose Richard. xD
God I've got bad heros. :c

I'm gonna have to say Eve Duncan, from a book series written by Iris Johansen. Eve grew up in the slums of Atlanta with a smackhead for a mother. When she was sixteen, she had a daughter. The father had already run off. But the minute that baby girl was born, something changed for both Eve and her mother - this little girl, Bonnie, was a total angel. By the baby's second birthday, her mother had started going off drugs; Eve was planning on going to college.
However, when Bonnie was eight or nine, she was kidnapped and murdered by an unknown person. Many have claimed to be her murderer, just to get their kicks; you might think that Eve would've fallen back to where she started. Not so. During the investigation of her daughter's murder, an FBI agent, Joe Quinn, became close friends with Eve and was the only one to save her from insanity. Instead of checking her into an asylum when her daughter's alleged murderer was executed, upon which Eve lost it, he took her into a forest and camped out there for several weeks. He refused to let her kill herself, taught her how to defend herself and use a gun. Somehow, through those weeks, they bonded. They were never more than friends though, despite Joe's feelings for her, and Eve made her way through college as a forensic sculptor. It's her way of therapy, I guess; she takes skulls and puts faces onto them. Usually it's children; sometimes it's adults.
It's just how determined she is that makes her my fictional hero of the moment. She's not a feminist, far from it; she knows that if she's got trouble, she can turn to Joe (who now is an Atlanta police officer) for help, or one of his many connections. She's been involved with a drug lord, several inane killers, a vicious First Lady, a former merc turned computer tycoon and yet she pushes through. Well, obviously, she has to. She's the protagonist. XD But you get my point. It's her determination to get through life and help other people that really strikes me. She turned her own bad situation into something amazing. She didn't get out of all those above situations without some scarring, believe me, she's been shot, stabbed, shot again and had broken legs, and she's constantly in conflict with Joe over some of his choices.
She also adopted a girl named Jane, who looks almost exactly like both Eve and Bonnie. Jane's pretty cool too, but she's not my hero. Yet. She still has to work her way up there. XD So far all she's done is be the apparent reincarnation of a Roman actress who drove many modern men to insanity due to her beauty or something.

Hmm... I think I have as many "antiheroes" as heroes. You know... Bad guys who turn out to be not quite so bad after all. What can I say? I guess I'm a sucker for a redemption story.
Brooklyn (Gargoyles)
MacBeth (also from Gargoyles... based on the play, but not what the bard had in mind, I'm sure)
Gerald Tarrant (Coldfire Trilogy- Wait. No. I didn't say "hero" really... *run away*)
"Honor isn't about making the right choices. It's about dealing with the consequences." A Tarrant quote, I believe, but I could see the second guy on my list here saying the same damn thing. In the same tone. With the same not-regretful-of-what-I've-done-but-you-can't-tell-what-I'm-feeling expression and posture.
*copy&paste the "regular" cast of Firefly, each for their own reasons* Did I mention being a sucker for realistic & flawed personas as well? Okay, Okay, maybe not exactly heroic, but there are aspects of just about every character there that I respect.
And while not exactly on my list of heroes, but darned close to it, the McManus brothers. Because heck, who hasn't thought about it?
And the most obvious fictional hero of all:
Batman. (But I love the jediJoker forever.)
Romain Skullcarver
Aug 29 2009, 12:41 AM
Bruenor Battlehammer (C'mon. That scene in the Hunter's Blade Trilogy of the Battlehammer dwarves rallying to their once-dying king's cry is just epic), Ogre General Urduuk (Commander of the Rallosians, EverQuest II), King Kazon Stormhammer (EverQuest dwarf king), Godzilla, the Hulk.... Yeah.

One hero of mine who tends to have more tactics and strategy in his head than any given military would be Michael Westen from the TV show Burn Notice. That guy has taken on so much Miami crime that they have to ship in bad guys from other countries at this point. He's an X-spy on a mission to find out who burned him and he still finds time to help everyone who comes to him with his problems. Interrogations, demolition, intimidation, breaking-and-entering, mac guyver-esque knowledge, friends in high places and guns out the wazoo. Yup, he's got it and a lot more.
They once joked about him taking on the entire Chinese army to save his brother? Wouldn't put it past him.

Well, I can't pick just one. (Note: unless it says otherwise, these are from books.) So, in no particular order, and, yes, these are heros:
Master Li & Number Ten Ox from Bridge of Birds.
Harry Dresden, Thomas Raith, Charity, Michael & Molly Carpenter from the Dresden Files series.
Fiver, Strawberry, Hazel, Blackberry & Bigwig from Watership Down.
Kvothe from The Name of the Wind.
Tasselhoff Burrfoot, from too many Dragonlance novels & stories to mention or remember.
Malcolm Reynolds & Simon Tam from the tv series, Firefly.
Frost & Doyle from the Merry Gentry series.
Simon Canderos, from Dead to Me (& its sequels).
Kitty Norville, from the same-titled series (starts off with Kitty & the Midnight Hour).

It's hard to narrow it down in this tree-killer book, but to
start with: Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, & Bran Stark from A Game of Thrones (yes, I just started the series). I enjoy rooting for the underdog, especially when they're intelligent, and persevere. Also, like Ty, I always wanted a dragon.
Liam Kenzie & Saxon from the comic, Mouse Guard. I want a poster of that snake being defeated, it's one of the most bad-ass one-on-one combat scenes.

I'm not sure you can call being blinded by your own pride to the point where you end up serving a powerful Demon and going crazy heroic. Kael'thas made way too many mistakes. He would have been a tragic hero had it not been for Blizzard completely turning him into a cackling supervillain just to get a raid boss.

Let me think who my fictional heroes would be:
1)The Hulk from the comic series World War Hulk(although I can't say that during this time he was a hero...)
2)The X-Man Storm
3)Beyond the Grave (A.K.A Brandon Heat) from the anime/videogame(s) Gungrave
4)Don Corleone from the book "The Godfather"
Not sure whether this one counts as a hero but the comic character Doomsday (I mean he did help Superman battle against Imperiex)
Jonath
Sep 27 2009, 04:22 PM
Doomsday's kind of a force of nature. I'm not sure if you can call non-sentient killing machines heroes. Don't forget that after the whole Imperiex thing that wacky Darkseid made a bunch of clones of him which caused all sorts of problems.

Let's see...
My hero growing up was probably Catwoman and the
original Yellow Ranger. These days, hell, idk. I'll go with a theme.
My heroes are redshirts who live longer than a redshirt has a right to:
Johnny Sasaki: rose above several games worth of humiliation to get the girl.
Benjamin Carmine: did NOT get sniped
Also voiced by the same guy who voiced Johnny. That's how you know he's some kind of magical or awesome or... magical-awesome.Bob, Agent of Hydra: master of stealth, took down a symbiotsaurus, kissed Deadpool...
That's like two out of three things every geek aspires to... I won't say which two.

Here's a few more of mine:
Superman (when he's written well All-Star-flavor not Superdickery flavor)
Yossarian from Catch-22 (because he does pretty much what any sane man would do in a insane situation)
Orion of the New Gods (again when he's written well as the hot-tempered but noble Dog of War and not as a border-line insane arrogant douche who's one concern is killing his father)
Gandalf the Gray (he's just so damn good at directing mortals to take down ancient monsters and evil overlords and he always does it with the gentle patience of a grandfather)

Ken "WildCard" Karmody, US Navy SEALs
Cosmo Richter, US Navy SEALs
Max Bhagat, top FBI counter terrorism
Jules Cassidy, second from top FBI counter terrorism
Irving "Izzy" Zanella, US Navy SEALs
From comics and manga:
Jimmy Kudo, teen detective extraordinaire
Batman, vigilate
Maes Hughes, military intelligence
Roy Mustang, Flame Alchemist
Rayne Summers, win
