Maira
Jul 28 2009, 06:30 PM
Nicknames: How many do you have? Which one do you use the most? Where did they come from?
I have many, many, many nicknames, but my most common is Maira, or Maira the Panda.
It's an online nickname only, no one in real life calls me that. I got the Maira from Maria, which I like, but Maira sounds cooler. It's pronounced M"EYE"-rah. The Panda is a slightly cruel description of myself, which I came up with. I'm chubby, have fluffy hair, look cuddly but will bite your hand off, am very pale and wear black often, and I know that everything (moral) in the world is a shade of gray.
Your turn!

Havn't gotten around on this sight enough to have a nick name.
My guildies in WoW call me Hal when we're not RPing, it's short for my character's name, Haliron Blazingsun (yes, I gave him a surname).
And my RL nick name is Pope John. Because my name is Paul and I'm Catholic.

If you wanna look at WoW nicknames included then I can add Roc, X, and Dark (prior to my Warlock's name change when I moved servers with her) Hell, I still call her Darkbreeze sometimes even though her name is Schalaa now.

In real life, my family calls me Tony, my sister calls me Ants when she wants to sound annoying, and I insist for my friends at school to call me Anthony A, b/c I hang out with two others. The WoW nicknames for all my characters are Wyrm, but sometimes people call my Warlock the cookie man... b/c he bakes the competition!
My nickname on the Steam community is Verd, short for Verd'ego. What's odd is I chose a name not remotely related to any of my others, it just sounded a good idea at the time. The Games and Entertainment thread gave birth to DC and Death, as my name is too long for some people's tastes.

From a reliable source... I discovered HHH is that wrestler who is constantly pantsing the other guys. Yet rednecks love that kind of homoeroticism. Hrmm.
As for me:
Rye bread/Rye toast - A friend's dad always used to call me that, always in good fun. I kinda miss being called it.
Rye - From people who are too lazy to pronounce the extra syllable
Ry-ry - I think Angel/Demon was the first to ever call me that actually. Recently people on the forums and in RL have been calling me that too.
Rhine - One of my friends used to always pronounce my name too fast and just skipped the "a". It stuck.

Novalyyn
Jul 29 2009, 11:24 AM
I don't have too many offline ones... My mom'll call me Babydoll or Babygirl sometimes. When I was a baby, I was dubbed Squeaky because I would apparently squeak rather than cry normally. A bit more at-random, I've been called Chi Chi, Coconut Prostitute (yeah, I don't know either), Crazy Lady, Chica, some man-name I can't remember, and others I don't particularly recall but never had any importance anyway.
Online I've had a several different screennames that spawned different nicknames... The ones that got used most were:
Novalyyn - Nova, Nov, and Novalynn if you count the constant misspelling
Dragon Moon - DM, Moon, Draggy (it was just one guy who'd always call me that)
.+Destiny.Eclipsed+. - DE, Des, Eclipse, Destiny
My roomie's gotten some more amusing ones, most of them psuedo-alterations of his real name. I'm not sure about before I met him, but name's I've heard him called (or have called him) include: Tedd, Teddybear, Theodore, Tedmet, Meathead, Rufio, Umbra, Umbrascitor, Darkstorm, The Banana Ninja Guy

I have some rather stupid Nicknames, Imo, but that comes along with having rather stupid friends. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
Dume - Something to do with my last name. I don't know, I block out unpleasant periods of my life.
Kiwi - My Aunt made it up when I was a young child. It stuck for five or so years. Now that I think about it, it may have something to do with my first name.
Jade - Among my RL friends, it's my middle name. Among WoW friends, it's a short form of two of my characters.
Slaeh - Short form of a character.
Anon - Short form of one of my many names.
Rorsch/Ror - Short form of this name.
That is all, I believe, although I may be forgetting some. If I can't remember it, it's obviously not very important.

To my friends I am mostly known as Lex, which is short for Alexis and makes me think of Lex Luthor. I periodically get called other things.
Closer friends, family and exes call me Lexi.
One grandfather calls me Grubbins while to the other I am Munchkin or Sweetie.
My step-father's side of the family has this thing where you call anyone younger than yourself Tad and a popular saying amongst them is "What's wrong, Tad?" Not entirely sure where that comes from, so I may be missing something.
I am periodically called Leftovers as an in joke in my group of friends (listen to the song Breakfast by LeLe and you'll get what our nicknames are, though mine isn't in the song. My friends all got Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Midnight Munchies before me) or Shorty/Shortstuff/Tiny/Midget/Old Hag/Old Lady/Old Woman. Im actually pretty tall (close to 6 feet), slender and rather young. My friends just happen to all be around 7-8 feet tall, kinda heavy and a little younger than myself. I found a gray hair once, caused by stress, which didn't help once one of them noticed while messing with my hair, which they do because they're larger than me and Im usually too tired to care when they decide to mess with my things.
On one multiplayer game, which is really just a glorified chat room with avatars (it's not too horribly well known and the avatars are not humans) I still get called Kira by a few of my older online friends since it used to be my username, now Im just Show, since my new username is Showtime.
And once or twice Im called Necro, if only because I really like the undead.
On various forums there has been debate on how one goes about saying my username.
I honestly dont know, so it's usually up to whoever happens to be reading it. This leads to nicknames.
On one I was referred to as Chewie (my username has nothing to do with Wookies FYI) while on another I am referred to as Shwinty, the last one I've adopted in real life and refer to myself as Shwinty a lot more than I'd hope.
I really like the name Shwinty. It's like, my thing now.
SHWINTY NEEDS FOOD BADLY!

I completely forgot my DnD name Drac. I was short on time and I was playing a Dragonborn Paladin. Nobody has yet to call me that outside of the game because I only used it for the 4-5 sessions it took for my group to overcome the first dungeon. It consisted of me, my mom as a elven cleric, my midget little brother as the halfling rouge, his friend as the elven mage, and one of my close friends from middle school, Timothy as Tim the dwarven warrior. My dad played a mean DM since he played multiple characters back in college... I'll probably reincorporate the name into my arsenal the next time I play.

Masakatsu: Means true victory, part of the phrase Masakatsu Agatsu, meaning true victory over oneself, a joke involving my ability to beat someone silly in the ring, but trip over my own two feet on the way there and back
Stormcrow: Joke involving how I tend to show up in the server room and stuff just starts breaking. Some friends seem to think I am a minor rain god too (I earned the nickname twice).
Worcmrots: Stormcrow spelled backwards.... seriously, don't ask.
Pete: My mom sometimes forgets what son she is talking to
Sir: A lot of my friends have nicknames. When the ex asked them what mine was, Rat answered, "Sir". It stuck.

Soooo many nicknames...
Well, IRL I don't have many, just any cutesy variation on "short" (shortcake, short stuff, SS [strawberry shortcake]) and ... um... Crack Rabbit. Heh. I got that because I'm ridiculously fast and I "just keep coming like somebody on crack." (Long story.) I begin to suspect it was also due to my size, as rabbits are fairly small...
Here I have had Ray and Sparkles (Ray was actually a popular nickname for me when I was known as Raven [Ravenwitch, King, no need to panic]), and I've also had Sage, Sagey, "Honey" (ugh, that one transferred to RL for a short while), Sagey-chan. On WoW I've had Char, Cat, Cath, Xei, Ray (see?), Q, Quillz (from Quilla), Crow, Kat, Temp, Tempy, Can, Cana... that's about all I can remember.
