Just wondering wether there are people that have never played WOW and think this comic is awesome?

Cause I feel this comic doesn't just fit for WOW players.

Mostly because of Richard's epicness
Mulkor
I really do think that if I hadn't played WoW I'd still find LFG as I do.
It has nothing to do with Warcraft except for the fact that the races depicted are the same.

The humor and the way the story progresses has it's own feeling to it and makes LFG a pretty awesome comic.
Ronin Drake
I've never played WoW, myself. Considered it for a while, but decided I didn't want to pay for a monthly subscription for it. Not to mention, the last thing I need is a paper trail for how I'm avoiding my responsibilities. tongue.gif

But, yeah, somebody directed me here in the middle of last year and I've been coming back ever since. It's all good fun and I can't get enough of this story.

For me, it's more about the setting and the characters than what they might have been based off of from some MMORPG or any other type of game. I'm here because this webcomic blends my love of magic, fantasy and mythical tales with a great overarching and typically funny story. What's not to love?

Probably because the comic has nothing to do with Warcraft.
The Bunny
never played WoW cause
1) too expensive
2) I'd probably get addicted
I'm a huge WC3-fan though...
Kresyda
Didn't play either, though considered. I know the realities a little bit, but I suppose that lack of knowledge about WoW does not prevent one from reading LFG and having great fun - I'd say the comic's more like inspired by, not based on WoW.
Devin Austra
I've never played an online game at all. I rarely even play video games anymore.

Still think it's awesome.
Beron
I do play WoW, and I still think the comic is awesome. Richard wins, seriously. But even if I didn't, I'd have found this, eventually (long time comics fan, in various mediums).
Sal
I'll admit if I didn't play WoW I would not have found this site, because at the time I was looking up some funny WoW based videos on youtube and Slaughter Your World kept on popping up on the recommended videos. After many days of dreading clicking on it I finally did and I was horrified. I could not understand why this character was killing innocent kittens and bunnies, so I came to this site to find out WTF was up.

Originally I was going to complain about Richard and blah blah blah, but I decided that if I was going to argue something I might as well be informed about it so I read the comic...

And here I am loving every moment. laugh.gif

I'll admit that, if I did not play WoW, it would have taken me a lot longer to find the web comic. The title of the song in the video would have drawn me in eventually. See, my daughter (I call her Terror; that's short for "Bunny Terror", from when she was chibi, she's 23 now), well, first I won the tickets to go see "The Little Mermaid. We all loved the film (my ex husband and his wife came down for it, too). Then came the video, and repetition, ad nauseum. Still, I like the movie, but I'm also a big fan of parody (If you're adventurous enough, although I haven't posted any there, my user name on YouTube is "PuartheKitty", and I currently have several playlists set up), so of course I'd love the song. And Richard pwns. Seriously. And he has a bunny! (And yes, I remember...lol). I don't think a bunny's all that far fetched though. Have you seen either that bit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail with the killer rabbit, or the movie Night of the Lepus?

Terror's the one who got me into playing WoW, of course. "Look, Mom! You can play a zombie! I know you like zombies!"

Of course, that was before she got bored with it. happy.gif

I used to, for like a week. But i love this comic and not because of the wow references.

Leave out the second one and I'd agree. Do you know how many games with actual plots I could buy just with the money for the subscription fees alone? Not to mention the game itself and all it's expansions. Heck, I could buy all the LICD and LFG merchandise I want and still have some cash left.
Bag-o-Legion-Ears
Thats why i took the week demo first to see if it was actually worth it.
Beron
I think it was worth it, though, at least for me. I've made some very nice friends, and not of the variety who use NetSpeak (though some have, indeed, fallen into that atrocious habit; luckily, only for certain phrases). I'm also kind of, sort of, involved with a nice young man (well, he's three years younger than me, lol) whom I would never have met, if it had not been for WoW.

Also, other than reading comics and plotting the monstrosity of a novel (which has grown into an actual series, at least in my head, and is starting to come out on paper, and I wish it would stop growing exponentially, and backwards, and this was all because of a flash fiction piece I wrote in the wee years of the 1990s), feeding the cat and picking up after Terror, I have no life. happy.gif I'm disabled, ambulatory with a cane, and I'm rather fond of playing rogues. I'm also rather more fond of the Horde than of the Alliance. They seem to have a lot more angst, plot-wise.

Of course, I also think the general DK story is rather sad. You had a life before being resurrected into the service of the Lich Kng, whose voice you hear in your head the whoel time you are in service to him before beaking free. You get these little glimpses, but nothing more. Who were you, when you were alive, and before resurrection? I mean, forget the "hero" (and I still keep thinking "hoagie" with that one...) part. Who were you, when you were alive?

I'm going to be on vacation from WoW soon enough; but I'm glad I found the comic.
Ronin Drake
In my opinion, WoW has as much affect on this story as the movie "Benny and June" had on Gid's character (Benn'Joon). It's a starting point that went beyond the idea it sprang from and became its own being.

Quoted for truth.

I also decided not to play WoW because of its monthly dues, and still find this comic to be hilarious. I stumbled upon this because I'm also an avid reader of Sohmer's other comic, Least I Could Do.

I am of a similar opinion. It was a springboard. You don't need to play WoW to read it (especially since the races are generic enough that they fit anywhere, pretty much). Elves, ogres and the like are fantasy staples, as are dragons and the undead. The exception, of course, are the Bloodrage (I'm familiar with Tauren and, other than-was it "The Island of Doctor Moreau"? I don't recall seeing similar elsewhere).

Heh. Shows you how the mind slows down from lack of sleep (getting up too early and going to bed late, through no fault of your own). But I wasn't talking about what I perceive as a bestial-type humanoid creature/ I never read of a minotaur having a philosophical discussion of any nature.

Then, again... lol.

I cannot believe I missed that. *facepalms*

But I've never really had any desire to play WoW >>
Iceholder
I think this comic is hilarious even if someone hasn't played WoW, though if you have, it helps to explain the races and why there's a war a bit. Just gives a tiny bit more insight is all, IMO.
Gathers Scrolls
Nope, I haven't played WoW either. Honestly, any 'in-jokes' that may reflect back to WoW, I think also overlap with D&D tropes.

The comic is just made of pure awesomeness, and it's kind of universal, in a geek/nerd spectrum. smile.gif

Anyway, I had a friends read Lfg,
Most of them started playing wow because of the comics.
Others couldnt really get into it but still liked the Richard Character

Actually...

I was re-reading the entire comic since I hadn't been reading for a few months (I'm a terrible person, I know), and one of my guy-friends was reading with me over my shoulder. Now this is a guy who has come up with violent and descriptive ways of torturing teachers (my favourite being "rip his balls off with a flaming monkey wrench"). He read for a few pages, but then gave me a weird look, said that Richard was too violent (or something along those lines), and went to go talk to our other friends. No joke.

And to remain on topic, I play WoW, and I originally found the comic through the WoW forums, but I would probably understand the comic just as well without ever having played.

What's funny is that My mom does play a troll.

EverQuest II player here, and I love the comic.

The Bloodrage are minotaurs, dammit.

And Cale is a High Elf, Captain V'Raay (or whatever her name is) is a dark elf, and Benny is, to be frank, a short and green ogre woman.

No questions.

Edit: Richard's a lich, and the gem on his chest is a phylactery.
Beron
8-bit theater is fun, but I freely admit to following the link from Youtube. Namely, my introduction to LFG and Blind Ferret was "Slaughter Your World". I loved the Little Mermaid but, as the parent of a (then) young girl (she's almost 24 now, and she's the one who introduced me to WoW, before she got bored with it: "Look, mom! You can play a zombie! You like zombies!" Well, horror, actually, but that's beside the point) and having the video played to death, and then running across this years later, I was, to say the least, highly amused (read, (laughing like a loon).

I've always been a fan of parody. I have Weird Al on my MySpace friends list. Yes, I caved and got a MySpace, but I still refuse to go on Facebook. I am still on InsaneJournal, though. happy.gif And dA.

Do not underestimate the draw of musical parody. happy.gif WoW notwithstanding.

I don't think not knowing WoW or some other book/game referenced affects the quality of the comic - you just miss one joke or two, so what?

I also read The Order of The Stick webcomic - and like it - though I've never played Dungeons and Dragons or any other similar game.

I have played WoW in the past, and found this comic via the WoW Website, tough.

Correction: Queen of Mods, and no. She's just a Grand Duchess. Kayhynn is the Queen. (Making me the Princess)

And I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen anyone start a war over this, yet. It's been said many times that LFG Comic is not WoW-based. It may seem that it has a lot of the WoW-like structure to it, but it really only has minor inside jokes to it. It also includes D & D and a lot of other fantasy genre.
Chuint
I found the comic from 8-Bit Theater, and Ive loved it dearly since first reading that first page.
There's a lot of things there.

Ive never played Final Fantasy, aside from occasional blurbs of the games I own before realizing "I dun like this. ._."
Ive also never played WoW. Just dont want to.
Ive only ever played D&D once, because of LFG and got most of the D&D jokes before then anyway. I liked it.

So, I don't know. I guess you don't need to be familiar with something to enjoy it.
siriusthebroom
i play wow and i find the little in jokes brilliant however i dont think you need to play anykind of computer game to enjoy lfg it's an literary masterpiece in its own right
Rurik
That's because LFG is it's own self contained world, someone who has never played D&D or any other D20 system game won't get jokes like rolling a rogue or when Richard rolled a natural 20 against the giant, just like I didn't get the "Screw you guys, I'm going home." as being a reference to South of the Border or whatever it was called. But it's nothing that will ruin your experience.
Bag-o-Legion-Ears
South park.... called south park.

But i did get the 20 joke... that type of joke is kinda prevelant in the nerd culture. (not that i'm a part of it... okay... yah, i am... but arn't we all? laugh.gif)

I've playd WoW only ona a week loong trial and that gaming wa sonly on the first day.. And what i saw LFG isnt anything like WoW, only the races are similar. And i was an Runescape addict last year and i knew pretty much everything about Rs and it's the same thing as WoW, only the races are similar.
Beron
The races, so far as I see, are pretty much stock fantasy: it's the characters that are important here. ^^
Garonash
WoW doesnt really have much to do with LFG, i'd say its more based on typical D&D.

Skyla
I found the comic cause I was looking up something warcraft related. I am hooked on WoW. There have only been a couple jokes though that seemed WoW-exclusive, like the 'roll a rouge' and the loading page with the portal and the tips.

However I still like the overall WoW feel to it. I look and see Richard as an undead mage/warlock, Cale as a blood elf hunter, and Benn'Joon as... well, troll/orc hybrid. It's nice to see something and think 'hey that's a reference to something I like'-- but if I wasn't into WoW I wouldn't even notice I'm sure. I'd see an elf, zombie, minotaur, ect.

Though I would like to blame Richard for my new undead warlock. c.c
