Thirrin raced to the housecarl's barracks. Each one was sleeping soundly, unaware of the roaring fire that was breaching the door. Thirrin face became redder within the heat and she yelled at the top of her lungs,
"GET YOUR LAZY BUTS OUT HERE!"
The housecarls were up in an instant and hurried to stumble out the charred door. The princess told them to heave buckets, then ran to find the source of the fire. She came near it and heard a loud voice shouting at the heart of the flames, "Richard! We're here to make friends, not enemies!"
Another voice answered, "Sorry, I can't hear you over my amusment of the man burning alive."
"RICHARD!"
"Fine, I'll stop, for a bunch of babies."
"Were will I get-oh."
"Thank you."
"Can you stop the flames?"
"Yes."
A pause followed, and the flames stayed firm.
"Will you?"
"Maybe."
"Here."
The flames were instantly doused. A small group were standing in the middle of the chaos. Thirrin stepped up to them," I am Thirrin Strong-in-the-arm Lindenshield, crown princess of the house of Lindenshield, heir to the throne. Who are you who challenge the Icemark?"
"I am Cale'Anon Vatay, this is Krunch, Pella, Ben'joon, Sooba, Felbunny-Rich-" Cale was cut off as Richard pushed him aside.
"I am RICHARD! Chief Warlock of the Brothers of Darkness, Lord of the Thirteen Hells, Master of the Bones, Emperor of the Black, Lord of the Undead, Lord of the Dance, And Mayor Of A Little Village Up the Coast."
"And were you the cause of the fire?" Thirriin said suspicously.
"You like my work?" he replied.
Thirrin sighed, "And what buisness do you seek?"
Richard answered, "I seek to destroy and slaughter every-" Cale put his hand around Richard's mouth, which was quickly fwooshed.
"We seek to make peace and a place to stay for a few weeks while we rest after a battle. We will leave shortly." Cale assured her.
"I'm sorry, but there is no way you can leav now. Winter has come and all passages are blocked, and when the ice melts in spring the Polypontian Empire will come to conquer our country. They will take any who pass hostage as they destroy Icemark. I have gathered allies, but the chances ar slim of victory." Thirrin's voice was cold and hard.
Cale thought of Lagarion, this empire was nearly the same! "We will fight with you, princess. We will make a sufficent addition to your army. We will take no reward, destroying wrong-ruled empires is a reward in itself."
"Speak for yourself." Richard scoffed at the idea of "helping"
"You'll be able to slaughter entire armies without me yelling at you." Cale said.
"When do we start?" Richard said excitedly.

"You can start as soon as the Polypontian army starts to invade. Which will be in a few months. You can stay here to train and help with supplies until the ice melts and the armies will come."
"Months! I can't wait that long to kill someone! I could melt the ice though......" Richard said.
"Are you ready for the war? Richard could melt the ice in a few seconds and the army could come earlier so your soldiers don't get a little rusty from the wait."
"We're ready as we'll ever be. All the allies have gathered, except the vampires who will probably wait for the last minute. Speaking of allies, where did Tharaman go?" a soldier ran off to get Tharaman.
"I'm going to melt the ice, and some faces." Richard turned around with a smile.
"Wait, Richard. We need to see if it is okay with all of the allies. Tharaman isn't here, and Grishmak is on his way. You need to be patient." Thirrin said to the warlock.
"What does "Patient" mean?" Richard asked.
"Just wait."
"Okay. I'm going to melt the ice now."
"Richard!" Cale suddenly had an idea, "Why don't you go kill animals in the forest?"
"Ask permission from the Holly king first, though." Thirrin called to Richard as he bolted to the forest.
"Who's the Holly king?" Cale asked the fourteen-year-old.
"He rules the forest in the fall and winter, and the Oak king rules in the spring and summer, they are both allies who we need to be on our side in the war."
A snow leapord the size of a charger (Really big horse.) and a werewolf with a golden collar came down the steps.
Cale was about ot say "Nice mount" to Thirrin as the snow leapord came next to Thirrin, when he heard it talk, "Greetings, I am Tharaman-Thar, Thar of the Snow leapords, Scourge of the Ice trolls, and Ruler of the Icesheets."
Cale was not hiding his surprise, "Um, hi."
Thirrin told him lightly, "Don't worry about Tharaman, he's just a big 'ol pussy cat who likes to drink wine too much."
"I'll do that." Cal answered, still shocked.
The werewolf spoke, "I am Grishmak, King of the Werewolves."
"Hello."
"Ye be tall." Pella said to the eight foot werewolf.
Thirrin yelled above the din of housecarls, "Where is Redrought?"
"And what is Redrought? Some huge talking bear?" Cale asked warily.
"No, he's my father, king of Icemark. Though he does talk as loud as a bear."
"Oh."
Thirrin was about to say something when a the sky was brightened with flames, which formed into words saying: I melted the ice and here come the armies! This will be so much fun!
Cale slapped his hand to his face and groaned, "Richard." half-heartedly.
"That dumb warlock! We aren't even in formation! GET INTO FORMATION! WE HAVE FIVE HOURS BEFORE THEY REACH THE CITY!"
"Sorry about Richard, he acts and doesn't think."
"I'm just glad the refugees are already out of the country and in Hypolitan Province."
"It's just like that warlock to send us into battle." Benny mumbled.
"No less then what I expected of him." Krunch answered.
And the fight will begin.

Five hours later the troops of Werewolf, Snow leapord, And human troops both Hypolitan and Icemark, were standing ready for battle. Thirrin looked into the sky hoping for the Vampires to honor the treaty she signed in blood and arrive for the war. They had sent a messanger who came back with news that they were on their way. She looked down at the charger she was riding and glanced at Tharamar, who smiled encouragingly. Cale was right beside her and the rest of the group was there, except for Richard who was already mingling with the army. There was enough evidence of that, flames spurting from the mountains and messages forming in the air saying things like, "I just set three hundred on fire at a time! New record!" or "The general's pants or falling down" and sometimes, "These guys are slow, it's going to take them an entire five minutes before they get here!" Though mostly the only signs of Richard was the continuous fountain of blood emerging from the center of the army.
Tharaman laughed, "That warlock is going to do the job for us! Well, at least there won't be any casualties."
Thirrin looked at him, "No. I'm going to kill that smart'world conquering Bellorum myself, if Richard kills him I'll bring him back as a zombie and kill him." there was a fierce glow in the fourteen-year-old's eyes that stopped Tharaman from commenting. Thirrins father, Redrought, was atop his horse with his new kitten, Primplepuss, in his arms. Redrought started blankly at the sky, until an arrow flew out of no where and ran him through.
"FATHER!" Thirrin cried as she jumped of her charger and ran to his slumped body lying on the ground.
It strained him to speak, but he managed a sentence, "You are now Thirrin, Wildcat of the North."
"Father...." Thirrin checked to see if he mauled heart was still beating and her eyes were instantly dull with grief. Her father had died before the troops had even been touching the lines. She was now in control of Icemark. She tried to brush of pain, there was a war going on and she had to lead them. She stood up defiantly with the Ring of State now gleaming on her finger. The king was swiftly taken back to the castle, to be buried beside his wife. Thirrin raised her sword and yelled above the new din of voices,
"We will NOT Stand here and grieve while Bellorum and the Empire destroy Icemark! We will fight in the name of Redrought Strong-in-the-arm Lindenshield, Bear of the North and former King of Icemark! I now stand as you new Queen ready to be the first to destroy the Empire! Are you with me?" Tears glistened on her cheek as all of the soldiers replied "YES!" and the housecarls started their chant they had created.
"OUT out out OUT out out OUT out out OUT!"
Thirrin looked at Cale, who asked, "Who is Bellorum?"
"He's the general of the Empire, he even had influence over the Emperor at his position. He has been the greatest general ever known, He has added more than twenty countries and provinces to the Empire's Twenty-eight. He is cruel, power-thirsty, an insane. He kills commanders if they cough in a meeting. There isn't a single soul who isn't afraid of him. No one. Except maybe that warlock of yours, but he's insane. Bellorum is the best. And the worse, in a sense of his cruelty. He expects to win every time, and he does. Their battle chant that he created is Vedi. Veci. Veni. It translates as 'We came, We saw, we conquered.' There is no force alive that can stop him." Thirrin explained.
"And you don't expect to win either, do you?" Cale asked.
"No. But it's better to die fighting to die fleeing. And we might have a chance, but not if the soldiers are sure of failure, as I am. And Grishmak, And Tharamar. We want the sodiers to die noble. And there really could be a slight chance."
"You don't believe there is a chance, do you?"
"No." Thirrin sighed.
There, more. Now I am going to put more on Overlord, then The Final Revenge.

A new message from Richard dominated the sky, it said, "They will be there in three.....two.....one!"
Suddenly, the soldiers of the Empire were standing at the front of the lines, charging at them. Thirrin raised her sword above the heads of the soldiers and yelled, "ATTACK!" each race surged forward with pride as they slashed and beat at the ranks. Richard abruptly stopped fighting and sat on the ground.
"What are you doing?!" Cale asked.
"My pillaging shovel got a speck of dirt on it." Richard rubbed at the shovel. He finished in time to whack a nearby soldier instead of being decapitated. Richard's hands lit up as he destroyed about two hundred soldiers with the flick of his hand. Richard leapt up in the air and sprayed hundreds of soldiers with bursts of roaring flames. He landed on top of one whose head he pulled of and sent flying as a burning bomb. It exploded in a flurry of fire, killing another thousand. Richard soared through the air once again and pulled of more heads and created more bombs. He threw ten at once that killed many in an instant. Richard continued his tactic until there were only three soldiers left, quivering in fear. Richard fired up his hands and was about to kill them when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked back and saw Cale, shaking his head.
"I don't care what you think, I'm on a killing spree!" Richard bolted to the men.
"Wait! We need one to send back to tell Bellorum that we wiped them out."
"Fine." Richard grumbled, killed two, and then tried to sneak a bolt of fire onto the third one.
"Richard! No! Come over here and I'll give you a baby!" Cale called to Richard, who came running and took the baby as soon as he was in reach, "Mine!" Richard stalked off to eat in private.
Thirrin stared at the battlefield, it was mostly Empire soldiers, but there were some of her own. She stared up at the gray sky. We have won a battle, but not the war, She thought.
"Was that it? Did we defeat them?" Cale asked.
"No. That was only a battle. They have an large country filled with more soldiers to take the place of the ones who died. We have none. If any die, we cannot replace them."
"How long until next battle?" Krunch asked.
"They will strike again tomorrow." Thirrin replied.
Cale nodded.
***
Scipio Bellorum watched as one of the soldiers came panting in, "What!" he barked.
"They...wiped us out, sir."
"What! Tell the next troops to be ready for battle tomorrow, then come back for execution."
"What did I do!" the soldier asked.
"You lived." The soldier ran off and came back after five minutes.
"You will be used as a target for the musketeers." Bellorum told him his fate.
The soldier fearfull stood as still as he could as the musketeers aimed, and got ready to fire. He heard the bang of hundreds of guns, then the sickening sound of bullets breaking his bones and embedding into his heart. He fell to the ground with a soft slap. His body was given to wolves.
***
Thirrin walked into her chambers. She sat on top of the bed and cried with all her might. She let everything out that she had been keeping in from the start of the battle. All the stress of ordering commands and the grief of her father's death. She huddled under the soft comforter of her bed and cried for hours.

The armies lined up and waited for battle. The Empire's fleets were nearly within reach. The Empire breached the front lines and the unmistakable sound of swords clashing was heard through the battlefield. Richard was flaming each fleet with a wave of his hand. Cale was suddenly struck on the head by something hard. He looked down to see the baby doll he had given to Richard.
"That is not edible!" Richard yelled at him.
"The point."
"Bad point."
Cale and Richard resumed fighting. Thirrin narrowly avoided a be-heading strike and swung around to slash the attacker in the chest. The battle resumed for the entire day, until Icemark claimed this victory and left to get sleep for the next battle. It continued the same for a week. Until one battle that changed everything.

The two armies lined up next to each other. They glared into the others' eyes with burning rage.
"ATTACK!"
They mixed together, clashing swords and throwing daggers. It was the same as each battle had been, but this time their numbers were lower. Thirrin scanned the sky looking for any sign of vampires. They were still not there. She let out a sigh as she chopped an Empire solder's head off. Then she saw Bellorum. Old Scipio Bellorum. She charged him and surprised him, but only mildly.
"What do we have here? The barbarian queenling? What a surprise."
"I will kill you!"
"Not today, my sweet."
"You fate is sealed, go down quietly!"
"Why, I have come for other attentions."
"To get your sorry butt kicked?! because that's what is about to happen!"
"No, this is." he smiled cruely as he signaled to a soldier behind her, who hit the back of her head with a pole. She fell to the ground and he threw her across his horse and sped off on the horse, calling for a retreat.
"THIRRIN!" Tharamar yelled as he tried to get her back, he didn't catch up with them and sadly dragged himself back to the castle.

After about five hours Richard agreed to help get Queen Thirrin in the morning, without any babies to bribe him with.
Light filtered through the dew-covered trees and made bright patches on the forest floor. A small squirrel scurried down the trunk of a tree and grabbed a small nut that was hidden in the brush. It was about to hurry back up, when it burst into flame. Richard stood a few feet away, watching a couple trees burn. He walked proudly through the forest, incinerating anything that moved. He was headed for the Empire's camp. He was going to have some fun there. And, of course, bring back that Thirrin girl. He wondered what was so important about her. She isn't the queen or anything. Oh yeah, she is.
Richard arrived at the camp and killed the guards and sentries. He walked slowly into the camp, and killed anyone who tried to stop him. Soon he was face-to-face with Scipio Bellorum himself.
"I think you have something that everyone besides my wants. I have to bring it back." Richard said.
"Only if Icemark surrenders." Bellorum replied.

Richard ignited his hands and held them in a menacing way at the general. Scipio Bellorum had a tiny glint of fear in his eyes, but it was soon dispersed.
"Where is the Queen? Cale says I can kill all of you if I rescue the Queen."
"That is information I do not find you of enough rank to be given to you." Bellorum replied.
The flames gleaming on Richard's hands grew larger, and fiercer. It was now evening, so they made a bright bubble of light around them.
"I get to have any information I want, or someone gets fwooshed."
"Oi! I'm right next to you, are you blind!" Thirrin's voice yelled, only a few feet away.
"No, I wanted to see if he would tell me."
"Of course I wasn't going to! Mommy said to never tell strangers important things." the general said in a whiny voice.
"Now I know why your name is Scipio! Because you skip like a little girl!" Richard mocked.
Scipio's face turned red and he slashed Richard's head off with his sword.
"Can you wait a second, I need to make a few changes." Richard's disembodied head said. He body walked behind a wall of rock.
"I think you forgot something." The general said, eyeing Richard's head.
"Oh yeah." Richard's body walked back and picked up a fork that had fallen out of his robe. He walked back behind the rock, leaving his head behind.
A few seconds later Richard jumped back from behind the rock, with a fork in the place of his head.
"BEHOLD! I have now discovered the headfork of Truth!" Richard said.
The general didn't say anything.
Richard wispered to Bellorum, "Now is the part where you die from my awesome power."
"No, I don't really think I want to die. Mommy also said that I can't leave her."
"Yes I did! Now get back in here before you're grounded, mister!" an old woman's voice yelled from inside a tent.
"I'm coming, Mother." The forty-year-old man stomped into the tent.
"Well, my job is done here." Richard stuffed his head in a bag, an began to walk towards the path back to the capital of Icemark, Icemark.
"Um, aren't you forgeting something?" Thirrin yelled, chained to a pole.
"Hm. Let's see. I have my head, HeadFork of Truth, a few bloody fingers.....I forgot to bring the left hands!" Richard replied and snatched a few sliced off hands from a bloody pile.
He then continued down the path
"ME! You're supposed to rescue me and take me back to Icemark! Isn't there a brain inside that skull?" Thirrin yelled.
"I'm not really in the mood for rescuing."
"According to Cale, you like babies. I'll give you three if you rescue me already!"
"I am coming!" Richard ran heroicly back to Thirrin and melted the chains, his new fork head stabbing Thirrin every time he bent down. Finally, he had Thirrin free of the chains and he jumped onto her shoulders, "Onward!" he yelled.
"My knight in shining armor." Thirrin grumbled as she threw Richard off her shoulders, "No one rides royalty."
"Fine. That will cost you one more baby." Richard said as though hurt.
"I think we are going to get along real well." Thirrin said sarcstically.
"Yeah, me too! Maybe we can go pillage this town, you can bask in my glory, you can weave tapestry of me.." Richard babbled on and on, a bit muffled since his head was in a sack.
Thirrin sighed.
***
They arrived back at Icemark and everyone looked quizziaclly at Richard's new Headfork.
Thirrin whispered to each of them, "Bellorum cut of his head. He has an odd way of improvising."
Cale nodded understandingly.
Tharaman sat down on his haunches and pulled Thirrin into an awkward bear hug.
"I missed you so much! Are you okay Thirrin!"
"Tharaman, Thirrin can't breathe." Thirrin said breathlessly. Tharaman lightened his hug, but didn't let go, "Tharaman, sometime this year, please." Tharaman had then hesitantly let go of Thirrin and agreed to go to sleep with the rest of them. Everyone was alseep before their heads' hit the pillows. Knowing while they dreamed that war was going to continue tomorrow, reinforcement had probably already arrived fro the Empire. And that the most fierce, successful general ever born was a moma's boy. Richard had made that very clear.
