Chatter about your fanfic ideas, help, critiques, character designs, setting the scene, ways to describe epic battle scenes, etc. etc.

Basically, anything related to fanfic writing in general, but not specifically about any one fanfic in particular.

Jowy suggested "Writer's Corner" in one of his posts. I thought it seemed fitting.

P.S. Please do not use this as another Jibber Jabber. Fanfic talk only.
Jowy
Well, I guess with this one now in place Grand Opening is kinda obsolete lol.
Sayuri Kajira
I'm sort of wondering on whether or not I should post all of the little arguments and dealings I've had with Richard over the years... is it worth it? ...Considering those who remember from way back when.
Sessamaru
Awesome! Thanks Devin.

And... no, Ms. Say, I don't think that would be wise o.o

For writers who want more than just fanfiction!

This will not replace fanfiction, but it will give us writers a wider spectrum to write in ^^;

Ooh goody! Vesperal saluatations to you all, fellow fanfic writers, and good idea on coming up with this thread Jowy!

You know what, I think that maybe focusing myself on another project will help me with my horrible writers block on Tendrils of Shadow. I've been thinking about doing a short series of fanfics in which multiple characters are doing things such as host a game show, answer supposed Fanletters, and maybe anything else that just pops into mind.

Most notably the thing that bounces in my head is The Gold is Right, a parody of The Price is Right featuring Tavor instead of Bob Barker (who I know retired but he was awesome okay) and having multiple characters be said contestants.

I guess what I'm trying to say is:

Would you read it?
Designia Darkblade
I'd read anything you wrote, Sal. I need someone other than Jowy to throw cinder blocks at for more story. (Which I will be doing soon, Jowy, as long as I don't get hit with a salmon again.)
The Nihilist
I'm a little sceptical about the gameshow thing, but I think answering hypothetical fan mail could be hillarious. You could even set up a thread by which people post fan mail, and you answer it in the stead of the relevant characters. I'm annoyed I never thought of this idea myself now...

Good luck with it!
Ronin Drake
I'm wondering if anyone might enjoy a sort of "communal fanfic", taking advantage of the forum format used to post the stories. Something where there's no one author and each person can only post a paragraph or two. I saw something similar done once, though only with a theme in mind, not a set story to base it off of.
The Nihilist
Would that not be in essence very close to being a story-driven RP, only you'd be writitng for more than one character?
Sessamaru
Apparently so...

Also, I would like to have everyone know that I promised an excerpt(sp?) a while back in the JulNoMo(sp?! XD), but I'm dropping out because I want something else rather than a sense of completion. So! It's here! The Nightblade biggrin.gif

TAVORFIC!
*drools*

I don't know what The Price is Right is..... but if your parody has Tavor in it I'll prolly read it. Cuz I'm a crazy fangirl like that. =D

And quoted for truth.
The fanmail thing.... can I steal that idea? *shiftyeyes*

Actually I think I might do a little spinoff there.
Mental note. Next Tavor-Fic will involve a frighteningly large pile of fanmail and one very overwhelmed elf for a short humor scene. And Adelleh probably sending letters flying all over the place.
Jowy
*Beats Dragon with a Sledgehammer, severely* If you don't really know what the Price is Right is you deserve it ^.^ Also, a small edit now, since Drew Carrey hosts the show now, not Bob Barker it would be more Tavor hosting instead of Drew.
The Nihilist
Seriously, if you don't use my fanmail thread idea, I am going to have to partially steal it from you, and partially claim my own part of it back.

OMG WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!!

Also Jowy: I was only saying Bob Barker cuz I stopped watching the show after he left...HE IS THE BEST! No I'm not one of the crazy people that worship him, but I don't like him retiring...stupid people getting old... dry.gif

Hey everyone. I'm just here to give a slight announcement. I am deciding to shut down the stories of "The Black Gale" and "The Breaking Plane" so I can make room for a much bigger project. Most of you saw my little exerpt from "The Nightblade" (a simple rough draft in which I have just recently fixed,) which is a project I am currently doing. Thing is, though, is that I thought about making a personal online short-story that could replace my fanfics. Sadly, this side-project ISN'T a fanfic, which makes me feel like I am intruding on the fanfic forum. So, I'm rather hesitant about wanting to post it here. I'm also hesitant to do this because I saw the amount of attention my fanfics were getting. Not much. I don't blame you all, though. I practically raped the idealism of Richard, a sardonic icon within the fantasy universe. I also seemed to have destroyed the basis of it all, especially with the fights that occured every two updates or so. Which brings me to why I am also shutting down my fanfics. It's pointless. As blunt as that statement is, I have locked myself into a stalemate and even when I try to bring myself to post another update to the stories, it defeats the purpose. I have gone too far, in my opinion, and ergo, I should stop. Too chaotic to continue. I basically just jumped off a cliff without a damned parachute! lol. Believe it or not, I don't want to continue those fanfics because I have gone wild with a simple idea and utterly destroyed everything in the process.

Now...

This brings me back to the side-project. I want to know, would it be alright if I could write a non-fanfic story and post it here? Would you read it? What would you like to see me improve to catch the reader's eye? Would you support it? The simple things. I don't want to write a bogus story and have a mob of people flame me just simply because it was stupid and had nothing to do with Legara. It's not what I am going for. I don't mimic people's idea for a simple reason: I ruin it. How can I not? I do too much of my own thing rather than try to run-off with their idea and tweak it slightly. Point is, I don't tweak, I rebuild. So, this is why I am shutting down my fanfics and wanting to write a new story in its place.

^ That paragraph makes me wonder what my point is...

Anyhow... What do you all think?

Sess...you completely hit the nail on the head as to why I shut mine down too. I guess I'm just not cut out for the whole fanfiction thing you know.

Anywho...I would most certainly read a non-fanfic story by you. I thought it was really good, original, and my favorite thing about what you had posted originally is it totally and utterly freaked me out. I would gladly read what you wrote and most likely buy it if ( WHEN!!!) it got published. I say go for it friend!!

rofl, alright. Thank you, Sal. (Also, I'm sorry that is also why you shut down your fanfics...)

Alright, on a completely unrelated note, I am moving my things out into the garage, so I may be off-and-on and perhaps off for a large amount of time. Yes, I'm going to LIVE in the garage and yes my computer will be out there with me. So... have fun, guys.

Okay well I'm making a Fanfic thats called The Darkness Inside all of us(i think, lol). Well I got the beginning up which explains a little about who my charrie is but I'd really like feedback.
The Nihilist
Feedback is a fickle mistress on this forum, I think you'll discover. If you seek constructive criticism, perhaps you could coerce a fellow writer to serve as your literary mentor, in exchange for providing the samesuch services to them.

Just a thought.
Ronin Drake
My story has now reached its climax and I'm starting to think about what lies beyond.

I'll be taking a creative writing class starting at the end of august, which means I probably wouldn't be able to go through a whole story before having to do stuff for that class. Especially not with the amount of time I spend on the start-up. And even then, I managed to get most of what I wanted to do into "The Spirits of Gamlon", so I'm not sure where I'd go if I did have the time.

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think I'll be making a series out of this. Or even a series of one shots, for that matter. Though I might be more willing to look through some of the other stories once my own piece is done.
Jowy
Hmmm, we need to do something here. Inject something back into the Fanfic board, it seems to be slowly shriveling up and dying. I know I am bad about it too, I haven't updated my fics in forever, especially LF X and Zero. I did update Search For The Fallen not long, I really should sit down and write it to its conclusion since I am so close to it. In other news, hi everyone, just wanted to throw that out there. Also Sessamaru, can't wait for you to actually begin work on your new The Family fic.

Mmm... any ideas how to make this thing flow? Make it living and breathing? It would help...

Oh... and... erm... I can't wait to get started o.o?

Holding a contest would be good. *shrug* Have the prize be something like... title of 'Most Excellent Writer'?

I 'unno. Just an idea.

Ronin Drake
I probably shouldn't given the schedule I may find myself in at the end of next month, but with the end of "The Spirits of Gamlon" just a post away, I'm starting to get ideas for a different fanfic. Actually, truth be told, I've gotten ideas for two, which is where a problem comes in.

I try to only focus on one writing project at a time. I don't think I could do both with any sort of decency like what I tried for with my other one. So I figured I'd mention my ideas here.

The common theme I seem to be going for is dealing with unstated origins. One is something that would deal with Pella working on something in a forge for some terrible incident in the present while having flashbacks to an event from her past that mirrors it. I don't have much more beyond that, but it's kind of been on my mind since I started coming up with ideas for "Spirits".

The other one is something that I don't want to give too much away on, but it would take place in the thieve's city that Rojave was in charge of and the Legaran dungeon beneath it. This would be a romance between two characters we haven't seen just yet and would offer up some explanations to the backstories. I should probably also mention that this would be my first romance if that affects anyone's decision. I'd probably incorporate a fair bit of action, but the crux of it all would fall upon two characters falling in love.

I'm curious to see what might be chosen. wink.gif
Treycied

I hate decisions dry.gif hm i gaz i vote for the last one....but no wait, romance between which chars? I mean that you can tell us, can you?! Or would it ruin the story?

Ronin Drake
Let me put it this way: the romance would be an explanatory prequel and we've never seen the characters that it would be between. In fact, the way I have it planned, only one member of the official characters has ever seen them. He'll be in the story as part of the resolution.

It wouldn't really ruin the story to let you know, but I enjoy having fun toying with the details at his stage. tongue.gif
Treycied

But how should I decide then on a story?
The first one is with the present characters, properly?! Then rather the first one i gaz......

Although it would help me to decide if I knew which Char you has intended for the second one. Please??? biggrin.gif
Ronin Drake
*sigh* If you insist... rolleyes.gif

I'm thinking of marketing the romance as "A Co-Ed Dungeon Romance". This would be the story of Benn'Joon's parents. How they met in the expansive dungeon of the city (the name of which I can't remember at the moment), how they fell in love, what got them locked up, their meeting with Krunch (since he was in there as well, apparently) and work in a little plot for them to focus on while all of this goes on.

How does that sound to you? wink.gif
Treycied

Thanks for your Info, it helped me really to decide wink.gif So here my Choice....
Hm I like Benny and Krunch, but i like Pella a little bit more. And mostly the general group together, so i vote for the first one.

Not that the last one doesn`t sound good to me, but you wanted a choice. So here is mine, number one wink.gif
Ronin Drake
I want to be fair here, so you don't end up with something you didn't really want. The Pella story would be taking place more in her past than in her present. Anything in the now would be more snippets before going back to the appropriate moment and making the connections to how things are. Cale and co. would be making minimal appearances.

While I've still got the thought in my head, I should probably get it out in the open. How old would anyone hear say the characters are? And, for that matter, what would the life expectancy be of these races? I know that elves live for centuries, so Cale could potentially be in his 70's and still seem like the naive 20-something. But what about the Bloodrage, or whatever it turns out that Benny is?

Thought I'd pose the question in a place where the authors will be coming and making up their own portions of the canon.
Tears_of_the_Moon
For the record, I vote for the second one - I'm intrigued by the idea. The first sounds really interesting too though. I'd read either.

As for the ages of the characters, I have no idea.
