I used to be a freaking picky little kid, didn't like to eat much of anything. Now, though, I'm working on trying various things, some of which are things some people might consider a little weird or unusual, some perhaps even gross (even if not so uncommon). Some such things have been:
- turtle soup
- turtle egg french toast
- squirrel stir-fry
- calamari
- octopus (whole and enchilada with chunks)
- several types of sushi (with and without fish)
- smilk (slimy - and icky - milk)
- mushroom burger (as in a big mushroom replacing the patty)
- yak (in burger and cubed steak form)
- elk burger
- sauteed puff balls (type of mushroom)
- baked kiwi (fruit, not the bird)
- peppered Mexican candy
- various flowers (fuchsias taste a lot like lettuce)
- pine needle tea
- madrone (tree) and honey tea
- tofu cheesecake
- frog legs
- buffalo burger
- venison
I'm hoping to make it to a place nearby that's licensed to serve pufferfish, too. But, I'm not so sure I want to try the pickled pigs feet or the kim chi (did I spell that right?) my dad likes, nor the peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches my mom and older brother enjoy.
What sorts of interesting things has everyone else tried? Got any suggestions?

Kangaroo, Crocodile, Antilope and Turtle.
All in steak form.
I also ate Frog-legs and escargots (snails). Vacations in France are fun

Frog legs
Fried calamari
Octopus (very tasty, sweet and tender)
Rocky Mountain Oysters (fried beef testicles)
Buffalo
Venison (man, I love venison!)
Cornish game hen (smoked on the grill with mesquite seasoning, better than chicken)
Tofu
There's more I'm sure, but I can't recall anything else at the moment.
I've reached the point I'll try almost anything. If it's slimy, though, I can't stomach the texture.

I'm a pretty picky eater too. So I can't really say I've eaten odd cuisine, but an accidental food I like is pizza sauce on chocolate cookies. ... Very long story there. >_>
I do want to try octopus. Smoked octopus sounds good.

I once put mistook Salt for Cheese and poured a mess of it on my pizza...
It wasnt pretty....

I forgot about the frog legs... but I added it to my list.
I've also had buffalo and venison, but for some reason, those didn't seem odd enough to include. And yet, I threw in some other fairly normal-ish things... bah, I'll put them in, too.
I had a chance to to escargot once, when I was little and still very close-minded about food (and yet, that was around the time I had the frog legs, turtle stuff, squirrel...). My parents insist that I did try some, but I distinctly remember being too squeamish and flat out refusing.
Bastyaan, you most certain have me beat in the front of unusual steak. Maybe unusual meat altogether.
Nilly, while I won't claim the pizza/cookie thing isn't weird, it isn't really surprising. Not entirely sure why... but I'd be more willing to go for that than the peanut butter & mayo sandwiches. Also, my dad once fixed somewhat lackluster, er, something (I can't quite remember what it was... spaghetti sauce, gravy, stew... something like that) with a pinch of ginger. He made my mom leave and wouldn't tell her what he did until she'd agreed that it was improved, to keep her from reacting negatively.

Chocolate covered beetles (didn't know they were bugs

a friend brought them back from africa)
Frogs legs (tho that's not so uncommon)
Aligator tail (not so uncommon either)
Buffalo (burgers are yum!)
Venision (deer)
Octopus
Squid (aka calamari)
Honeysuckles (flowers you pick that have a drop of nectar in them -had them in west virgina but you gotta fight the bee's for em)
Really, none of those are all that uncommon...pretty general imo. heh
I'm sure there's a slew of other things I shouldn't have put in my mouth to ingest and did, like I know when I was around 8 years old we used to eat these red berries off this bush because they were "magic berries". Often we just ended up sick heh. Oh and we'd eat ants. No idea why, just seemed fun to do when we were little, it became who can eat the most with out getting bit. Florida has fire antz so it was a challenge.

I almost tried some sort of chocolate covered bug once. They were given to someone else, and I only got to try the weird Mexican peppered candy.
Ha, I used to nab honeysuckles all the time way back when my family lived in Tennessee. They've been harder to find since then (as have fireflies, but I never ate them, so... heh). I don't remember any problem with bees, though... Then again, that was way back when I was, like, 3 or 4 years old, and going by my memory, daffodils were freaking ginormous and my brother's friend's house for some reason seems like it had some freakish long gravel driveway that led you by some sort of canyon to the house... o.O
I once ate glue, back in first grade... I'd actually simply been dared to glue my lips shut, to see if it could be done. Got kicked outta class for that. o.x Also learned that Elmer's school glue has a sweet taste that's not really all that bad.

I used to eat my notebook paper all the time. I'd pull the spiral tattered edge off of the notebook and just shove it in my mouth, and chew on it like gum. No idea what that was all about, I stopped doing it after highschool but I'm still somewhat notorious for sticking and chewing on straw wrappers.

It is my aim in life to try a little of everything that may be edible.
The more unusual things I have eaten:
Kangeroo, Ostrich, Venison, Rabbit, Snake, Rat, Squid, Escargot (Snails), Grubs, Lobster.
The weird thing is a lot of people assume I am vegetarian, why is this? I dunno.
Ostrich is my fave, with cranberries! Yum!

Jun 20 2009, 05:35 AM
What, you can't Google it?
It's basically congealed pig's blood. I think it's usually in the form of a sausage, not actually a pudding, so it also has the "benefit" of being cased in intestine, besides the fact that it's blood.

I am very quite so, you see there is dead skin on certain parts of your body. But in a way it's still considered "live" skin, such as the bottom portion of your big toe. Or in the edges of your fingernails (The skin part) that you are capable of gnawing off. I didn't do this on purpose on biting those areas no. But only occurred when I was in a... accident I suppose. Car flipped over and the such, and had to gnaw away the skin to free my legs( Piece of metal stabbed into my toe and foot) But I can't explain further, parts are all fuzzy!

Yup, it's just called Black Pudding but it is in sausage form, then cut into slices, neat little circles of congealed blood, which is then fried. Yummy.
(We also eat White pudding, which is just pork meat and fat, equally tasty.)
I remember being told what Black Pudding was made of by a family friend when we both wanted the last slice, he was trying to get it from me, but I forked it, put it in my mouth and "So? I've been eating it for years!"
It's been my aim to try all types of foods ever since!

I could, but... I'm lazy, and have been deceived by Google. Other times it's proved outright useless. But mostly, I'm just lazy.
In any case... I'm not sure I could try it. While the idea doesn't presently seem too terrible, it's entirely possible that sight, smell, or texture (the latter two especially) could make me reject it. Aside from that, I'd just have to not think about the fact that I'm eating (soft?) pig scab. Which of course means that my dad could not be present.
Speaking of my dad, he wants to try dog.

I've had ramen for breakfast, the earlier type like that. Made my mom sick a couple times from the smell of it so early in the morning. I also went a couple months eating almost nothing but cereal, in college.
Now, however (about a year later), I have trouble eating cereal. Often makes me feel sick, for some reason, but only when the cereal or milk are mixed. Either alone doesn't bother me at all. I can only hope it goes away, like the headaches I used to get from sharper cheeses and darker chocolates - the stuff I prefer.

Google it!
LOL. It comes in a small rectangular package. A little brick of thin squiggly noodles that are cooked by pouring boiling water over, and allowing it to sit until the noodles are soft. Then you add in a little pack of very salty, MSG-laden powdered seasoning (beef, pork, chicken, or shrimp, maybe other flavors) and stir that in to make a noodle soup.
It's a staple of poor college kids everywhere because it's so cheap and can be prepared with a microwave, or even just by heating water with a coffeepot. It's great with other stuff added as well.

Ya' know, I never cook it like that. I generally cook it more like spaghetti. I heat the water, put in the flavor, and once it's boiling, I let the noodles stew until I'm satisfied.
Also, interestingly enough, I didn't eat much ramen in college. I lived mostly on cereal, whatever best deal I could get from the school's almost-real-food machine (usually muffins and such, occasionally a pizza bread thing), and free Subway sandwiches while I worked there, as well as whatever free food the school occasionally offered. I also would often put off eating for as long as possible each day to keep my stomach from trying to digest stuff; when I did eat earlier, it generally just kept bugging me for more the rest of the day. It was the only way I could afford to not piss of my roommates. ^^;

I've been to lots of places, and usually try to have some kind of exotic dish. On the domestic end, I've had crocodile jerky that was pretty tasty, and my ex's dad once made us cheesesteaks with deer that he'd hunted. Those were very, very good. I'd definitely try venison again. After my freshman year of college, I studied in Ireland for two months, and had the "traditional" Irish breakfast there several times: black and white puddings, fried tomatoes, and eggs. After that, I traveled to China with my family, and tried various dishes made of god-knows-what, as well as Chinese takes on American food chains, like McDonald's and KFC.
This past fall, I studied in Greece for three months, and had interesting Greek dishes there which were quite good, by and large. While there, I also traveled to Amsterdam; while there, I was able to sample some stuff from their large amount of Middle Eastern restaurants (apparently there's a large Middle Eastern population in the Netherlands), including the most delicious shawarma I've ever had. Before going to Amsterdam, I managed to have a chance to stop in Budapest, where I went out of my way to try the traditional goulash, an interesting stew made with beef and spices. Last, just a few weeks before I went home, I went with a large group to Egypt for four days. We rode camels out into the desert to see the pyramids, then actually had camel that night for dinner. I felt a little bad, though, and hoped it wasn't the one I had ridden! It was pretty good, much like beef, but a little gamier. If anyone has the opportunity, I'd definitely recommend trying it.
