First of all I want to address the fact that the voices of the authors have finally been heard and we now have our own Fanfic board. With that said, I would love to welcome you ladies and gentlemen to the new Fanfic board. Here you can post your own Fanfiction stories or create threads to discuss and criticize other authors' work. We are all just here to enjoy ourselves and have a good time writing stories for others to view and enjoy as well as reading discussions or criticism threads to help the authors become better writers. So please try to keep everything friendly and clean here. So once again welcome to the newly minted Fanfic board and enjoy the ride through the created fantasy worlds that the authors create for each and everyone of you to read! The Library of Fanfiction is now officially open so feel free to browse and enjoy! The rules of the other forums apply here as well so let's be nice and enjoy a good time so we don't lose this board. Also this is a PG-13 board so no slash fiction of any sort. Once again this goes back to keeping it clean because there may be children reading this. Other than that have fun and show us what your imagination can come up with.
Kayhynn
Something I'll throw in here folks, the rules from the other forums apply here too. We'll get those all stickied up here pretty soon. Just wanted to remind everyone to keep it friendly. You got the forum, now don't abuse it.
Sal
Huzzah! I like to give a big bear huge to each and everyone one of the moderators for making this new forum. I understand how much of an annoyance it was to some of the other forumites to have all of theses fanfics floating around! Thank you guys and girls! *big hug*
LittleFireDragon
WOOHOOO!!!!!
Finally! Our own forum!!!!
*dances*

I'm glad I had a hand in starting such a wave of creativity and I can be properly proud now that my little craze is no longer cluttering up the comics forum. ^^

*cheers*
Jowy
I know, I am so happy as well that we finally got our own board. As Sal put it I bet the other "forumites" are stoked about it as well.
Sessamaru
I'm quite happy for you all. Now that this is up, I may learn some of the Fanfic techniques... Yes, to me, this has a certain technique to it. Don't judge me!

*Prows about the Forum*
Jowy
We Fic writers are a small community amongst the LFG enormous fan base for now. Now that we have our own board now we should hopefully develop into a bigger community and will do it "FOR PONY!"

Lunasa
Cheers for the new fanfic forum~ Now I can finally get around to posting in my Crossover fic... *has been dreadfully neglecting it* And off to find my muse.
Jowy
I remember your fic Luna. You actually started yours well before mine and I had forgotten about it until I saw it here in our new Fanfic board lol. Get back to work on it you slouch ^.^
Kayhynn
I will put the friendly reminder here that this is a PG-13 forum. I am going to say no to "Slash" fanfiction.

If you don't know what this is, please PM me.
Jowy
Oh yes. I agree with Kayhynn here entirely. For the love of all of us no slash fiction please.

First post! Wish I could be happier about it. :\

I have been lurking the forums and reading the comic for hmmm months I guess and was terribly excited to see that a forum had been created for fan fics. I'm a fan of fan fiction, especially while waiting for updates to canon. Haven't written any myself as of yet, but I have some ideas I might someday get over my aversion to writing enough to write.

However, once I read this post, that excitement was tainted by disappointment. You see, I am also a fan of slash fiction. Not all slash automatically, depends on the pairing, depends on the writing, depends if it's done well. I've been digging in the old posts for a while, and actually found some pleasing Richard/Cale fic. 'Twas completely G rated, mind you.

Brings me to the point of this post.

I'm not sure I understand your meaning, Kayhynn. In my understanding of the realms fan fiction, slash is often used to denote male/male or female/female pairings, usually not explicitly, but often implicitly, alluded to in canon. However, slash, the name coming from the "/" can be used to refer to pairings in general, including male/female pairings, and even /OC (original character). So, and I think it's worth doing on the thread rather than in PM, since it would apply to the whole forum, what do you actually mean by slash? And do you mean you would personally say no to slash, or that it is not allowed on this forum?

The tone of this and Jowy's post lead me to suspect you are referring to homosexual pairings as slash. Also, there's a thread on this forum of Benny/Cale (I think it was?) pairing that was not condemned by the mods. Then I have to wonder, why is it immediately assumed that slash is R (or higher) rated? Slash can very well be G or PG or PG 13 rated. I have to wonder, why when this forum considered PG 13, what with level of violence from our beloved warlock, but if that warlock happened to take a slightly more than platonic interest in a certain elf, this is rated above PG 13?

Now I understand that some readers, such as Jowy, might be utterly revolted by slash. Fine. We are all entitled to our opinions about particular pairings. And I understand that homophobia exists. But, if the fan fiction is precisely labeled, you can easily avoid reading something that you find personally offensive.

Sessamaru
Well, Hex, the reason for this being, is to avoid uproar amongst the homophobic and sickened. I, for one, am liberal to all thoughts. But you seem slightly one sided. I think they meant to censor slash only for those who are religiously "correct" (Which is a joke, because those zealous to their beliefs tend to be blind...) or probably because of the "X" related content that some tend to have. This could go either way: Homosexual and/or Heterosexual. Ergo, my friend, we're just trying to be careful. Please, let this not anger you, for we're only trying to be fair. I know how you feel, though. The thought of censoring something absolutely irritates me. I believe everyone is entitled to an opinion, as long as it is just, mind you (there are some people who have UNJUST opinions... ones that are absolutely... cruel and nihilistic.) Anyway, point being, I know you came here not enraged, but quite curious, but sometimes I rub people the wrong way. I can't help it. So, yea...

But, not that I am encouraging such a thing, just simply advising, perhaps you can petition for the slash. Get a few people to agree with you and have a fair amount of deals. I dunno...

What I am saying is, is that there are reasons behind this.

I hope I don't sound like a blathering bastard.
Jowy
The reason we desire to avoid any sort of slash in any regard is because there are too many people who browse these forums from kids to those who would make our lives a living heck due to being offended if we were to allow something like that. It isn't that I personally have anything against it being written but we just got this board to ourselves and we want it to be clean, healthy, wholesome fun for all. Not a board full of arguing about what is appropriate and what isn't. So please try to understand that we only do it for the entire community as whole. So please try to understand that we are not trying to upset you but we have the entire general populace to consider against the wishes of one person.
Sal
mellow.gif I now wish I didn't know what slashing was... please don't lol

Remind me why I shouldn't worship you sleep.gif'

Honestly, the first two parts of that makes me ask. What? You confused me a bit there lol. As for the second part. I am guess you are referring to the story X told of what happened to his daughter. If so wait till you get to my more recent posts. LEt's just say I am cruel as a writer apparently.

Well, to clarify the first part, I admire the fact that you're more open minded than I am. Makes me quite ashamed of myself. Ah well...

Secondly, I can't wait to read more. I'll read some more when I add another segment to my Fanfic.
Sal
Urgh. I want to write more but I'm just way to psyched out about tonights concert (its the end of the year concert after concert after concert). I has flute solo!

and I be nervous....
Jowy
Good luck tonight then Sal.
Sessamaru
Aww! Don't be nervous, Sal!

Good luck ^^
Sal
Thanks. I have no idea why I'm nervous...I can play it in my sleep. By the way its the Concerning Hobits song from LOTR, well part of it at least.

So the no slash rule means no m/m or f/f or just no X-rated material? I have heard of slash refered to in both ways....

I don't.. have any position of authority here to speak on this matter. I'm not an avid fan fiction reader, and I'm only partway through the comic, but I was browsing this forum and stumbled upon this thread. I'm clearly outnumbered here, so I doubt my words will change anything for the better, but I couldn't just let this sit without saying my piece.

I don't really understand why a double standard is being held up. This is a comic where an undead warlock casually kills, or even massacres villages without so much blinking. He enjoys it. This is clearly indicated in the comic. The typical counter argument is that kids know the difference between reality and fantasy. Fine. But.. if this sort of casual, enjoyed bloodbath is "clean healthy and wholesome," what sort of moral grounds do you have to say that a loving, consensual relationship between two members of the same gender is not?

Hex was told to consider the general populace. You don't get more general than the society of our day and age. If we as a society (and we as a community, in this particular instance) act like homosexuality is something to be ashamed of, to be kept hidden from the kids, something that we should just pretend doesn't exist... Then there is an entire 10% minority of the world that will forever be treated like second class citizens. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on whether homosexuality is okay or not. But on the same note, everyone is also entitled to basic respect as a human being. The problem with the state of our society is that this is currently not the case. I'm not putting the state of society on this forum and it's moderators. But this is how change starts. Open-minded individuals present something - say, slash fiction - as if it is NOT some great big secret to be swept under the rug.

That happened to a drummer last year. They were turning off the snare and moving the timpani and all of a sudden the field snare tips over knocks over a stand and hits the tuba player in the head...

Both, as the first post of the topic says and as Kayhynn said, keep it pg-13. Meaning nothing x-rated or any m/m or f/f. Regular shipping however is fine.

No, not really. Maybe just a little. I think I'll just lurk around this forum some more.

Also, homosexual =/= pornographic, it can be PG13 too.

-sigh- I think ignorance is why. People are ignorant. We don't want trouble and we don't want to corrode the mind of others and we don't want people running around trolling. What you don't understand is that NOT EVERYONE is OPEN MINDED. Everyone has their own truth. You guys are complaining about this and not receiving the message that we must keep a neutral ground. If we don't, trouble will reign in. It'll be another world war on the internet. I may've read this wrong, but I have to throw this in: NOT EVERYONE IS UNDERSTANDING. They can't be. They're too arrogant... or perhaps ignorant... and will never change their ways because of it.

The Populace here isn't just the members, but the guests that come here. In fact, there are as many children here as adults.

So, please, don't try and start an argument.
Jowy
To address you again Hex. It isn't that we are trying to hide it. The fact is it has been deemed a rule that it is not allowed here and that is that. Seeing at how I am not a moderator of any sort I have no true say so over what is allowed or not. For arguments such as this you will want to take it up with one of our mighty mods. In the mean time though there are other websites in which you can express the fanfiction you desire. www.fanficition.net is a good one to use.

Before Dragon asks, no, it wasn't me.
Sal
I'm about to show my very unopenminded side and possibly make some people hate me.

I do not think relating Richard slaughtering things is in anyway comparable to a gay relationship. I find this argument really kind of sad and I am disturbed that people think that because the comic is violent, homosexual relationships are "okay" in fan fiction. No, I don't think its right. Does it matter the morals behind it? And plus just give it up! The mods said no, deal with it! And thank every god of every religion that they did...

My entire message was regarding children, when people are young enough not to have beliefs set in stone, not adults.

I'm not trying to complain, so I'm sorry if you think I am - I just can't comprehend how it's neutral ground to say "you can't stand here."
Sal
I am young and yet my beliefs are set in stone. Don't try me.

and its neutral ground by not allowing people to do it because as Sess said many would probably complain and some would troll (as I might be considered doing right now, I'm really not sure) and stomp their feet no. Honestly if thier was one thread didicated Slashing or whatever and clearly labeled as to were children and people who don't want to see this stuff, i would have no problem. But would I waste my time with it...NO!

Neutrality is hard to maintain, I agree, but there needs to be rules in order to have neutrality. So we have to sacrifice something in return. If we let everything go, the place would be trolled and children too young to understand something would misinterpret it and end up... well... like they are now, where I live. Perverted idiots with enclosed thoughts. But, that may not be the case, but the thing being, you have to be careful about things in order to maintain a balance. Neutrality. If not... pandemonium. We don't want that. Just let it drop. Please.
