Eldest is next up on my list. Just finished Airborn by Kenneth Oppel, which was OK; Peeps by Scott Westerfield, which was badass; and Choke by Chuck Palahniuk, the guy who wrote Fight Club, which was insane.

Right now I'm working my way through some of Stephen Brust's books. Start with The Book of Jhereg, it's quality.

I'm reading Arturo Perez-Reverte's The Fencing Master. Muder, suspense, intrigue, and period fencing. Good fun.

I'm a big fan of the 'Trollslayer' series by William King, set in the Warhammer universe. The first few books are great, even if you know nothing of the setting.

Airborn is great, make sure you read the sequel; skybreaker.
Theyre making a movie out of it though, which is going to suck T.T
Make sure you read His Dark Materials and The Bartimaeus trilogy. Both are intended for young-adults (Just like eragon and the like), but theyre still great series.

I can't say this name enough...
C.S. Friedman.
She's a genius, I tell you. An absolute genius. And all of her work is good and long, too. Stories you can really sink your teeth into and hang on for the long hall.

Waiting for my copy of Skybreaker to arrive. I've read the Golden Compass, etc. Last year. It was.... incredible.

(this post is under the belief that the golden compass is the american equivalent of the northern lights. If it isn't, ignore this post. I'm pretty sure it is though)
Have you read The Subtle Knife And The Amber Spyglass yet?

Waaaah? I had no idea they were differently titled. Yeah, apparantly so. And yeah, I read all three. I had read the first one a long long time ago, I assume when it first came out, and finally got to catch up last summer. I really really want an armored bear.

I just picked up The City of Falling Angels tonight. It looks pretty interesting, but I haven't started it yet.
I like feasable "what if" stories. Like Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code.

I honestly believe that every single person on the face of the planet should read The Deed of Paksenarrion (trilogy) by Elizabeth Moon. And The Fire's Stone, by Tanya Huff. (All of Huff's stuff is absolutely top of the food chain, quality-wise. But this one is the best of them all

)
Best authors out there: Tanya Huff, Robert A. Heinlein, William Sleator. True story! Jesus was reincarnated for the sole purpose of flying into your room to tell you to read them...

-Me
P.S. - as far as movies go? Mimi Wo Sumaseba. (Whispers of the Heart, is the english translation). It absolutely destroys every other movie out there for top place. Just blows them straight out of the running. Go watch it. Seriously. What are you doing still reading this post, and not watching it already? GO!

Only just finished eldest last night. Was an ok addition to the series but eragon was far better.
One series that i want to get into is the wheel of time series. Loved the first book but i never got around to reading any of the others. Stupid short attention span

In that case, do yourself a favor. Read books 1-5, then skip to 11. While I loved all of them, those middle books can be a bit tough to get through unless you're a really big fan of the series.

Lotta important stuff happened in those other books!
Just find a synopsis on wiki for them or something.

one book that stuck in my mind as a great fantasy novel well after i read it, "jonathan strange and mr. norrel" is a huge book, is set out like a history book but it follows the rebirth of english magic, set in england (obviously) in the colonial years, great book.

id go for the HALO series.
it fits the games perfectly and even gives background to the fall of reach, the Master Cheifs place of origins before they get to halo
hmm, well i would heartly suggest George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire Serries. its a very good fantasy serries out there. large books. so large in fact that at the moment we are waiting for the seconed half of the fourth book to be finished. he realesed the first half last year. very graphic, with curseing, violence. lots of political sceemeing and such. plenty of battles. and great characters. i look forward to the rest of the serries, along with the recently announced HBO Serries based on the books.

I'm a huge Anne Rice fan. Memnoch appeals to me more, mostly because it's incredibly controversial on the tale of the Devil, his fall from heaven, and the purposes of Heaven and Hell.
However, if you're not into the whole series and just want a good story in and of itself, Tale of the Body Thief would be the best bet. It's more of an adventure and has an easier storyline to follow.

Yeah, the Halo series is actually really good, except for The Flood (which actually covers the events of the games, the other 3 don't. Also, The Flood was written by a different guy)
Anom; you read the ghosts of onyx yet?

May I add in anything by Robin Hobb, especially the assassin trilogy and my current read, the rather cracking "Lies of Locke Lamora" by Scott Lynch
Oh and I second the Song of Ice and Fire comment- can't wait for the TV series
