Seriously why has no one asked this question? There is never even any mention of anything about his past, there is not even any small hint really that he didn't just spontaneously appear out of thin air at the time of the first comic. But I have a rather stupid theory anyway. I believe he might be the vulii king of Legaron who for some reason has amnesia, and while this sounds kind of stupid it might explain a few things like why the Archmage called him king. It might not have been because he was going to become king but because he already was the king.

You people will probably find a ton of problems with this theory but at least it'll give you something to think about.

because no one cares enough.

it's a good topic though. i have no theroys so i won't be much help
SilverKnight
There's just not enough about Cale's past to get a good reading on it, however my particular theory is that Cale is a direct descendant of the Gamlon aristocracy--possibly even related to the great King of Gamlon that threw himself on a spear to save his family. It would only make sense that a born Prince would later become a King. It would also explain why the Archmage took such interest in Cale specifically, to task him with the near-impossible.
JarHed
Also another point I forgot to mention in my theory is that it would also explain why Aeloon appears to be in charge of Legaron right now.
Kerrah
Oh it has been asked, but not by the loud fans, who are too distracted by Richard's black-and-red speech bubbles to notice the hole in the backstory.
Devin Austra
^So true.

I figure we'll find out eventually, and there's no reason to put a lot of effort into theories, because Sohmer likes throwing something completely unexpected at us.
Worchachire
I always assumed Cales past involved a character select screen and clicking the New Character button. How else do you explain the fact that he had no idea that he was evil.

Being brought up by good elves?

Being brought up by good elves?

Perhaps, except he shouted "GREETINGS, WORLD!" in the first comic then showed (or, at least, very strongly implied) he'd never met a good elf in a later one.

Its all right here:

Duh.
If Richard said it, it must be true.

</sarcasm>

Once upon a time there was a mama elf and a papa elf...

Now for some reason all I cant think about are the Keebler Cookie elves.
Nilly
I think Cale is an elf prince who conked his head a little TOO hard on something as a child.

I'm not joking. O_o
Gathers Scrolls
How I've pictured it:

(A half-hour before Cale is 'born'.)

"OK, guys, the pizza should be here in forty minutes."
"Sweet! . . . Uh, is it alright if Steve makes a character?"
"Does he know how the game works?"
"No, but he's watched LOTR."
"Oh, this should be good!"

(Five minutes after the pizza delivery-guy leaves)

"No, your character can't just be 'Anonymous'. Try again!"
Elunii
Oh my gosh, you have no idea how many times I have wondered about Cale's past! I've mentioned it before briefly but as someone in this thread already said, I was one of the quiet ones.

My theory is that he's some sort of Aristoracy. When he arrived in Gamlon they thought he was a 'country Lord' and he DOES have that really awesome cloak...
Scarblade
I support the idea that he was kind of just created, it explains why this happens when he steps through a portal. dry.gif

No, but I seriously support the idea of him just being created, or something in that sense, and then being placed on his Path of Destiny. Like he's the kind of hero that only arises when the world needs him, and no one really knows where he came from.
Makaan
This is why we need to shove cheese and squeeze down Lar's throat for answers, but i'll save that for later, buthere's my two cents.

A: Yes the whole hidden lineage of elves and he's is 100% unaware due to time and lack of talk by the progenitor "Let say for kicks there be a comic/anime reference saying the hidden royalty character has uber abilities that none other have it"

B: Pop out of the rainbow wormhole of disney characters and other people butchered mercilessly after exploring and have rainbows that pop out of their decapitated heads "MAKES A DAM SENCE LIKE THAT LARS".

C: Made of pure magic to appear like he did in the first comic like any other universal thinking

Yes flame me for my theories, but I stand by them!
Paper_Dick
My theory:

"Cale" was a typo. They meant to type "Cake"

and we all know the Cake is a lie. So obviously, Since Cale the Cake is a lie, they need to find the Sword of Truth to cut the cake....get it?
Gathers Scrolls
Aw, man, that reminds me of the scene at Miracle Max's in The Princess Bride!
'To blave'. . . . biggrin.gif

The secret key to Cale's creation: Dice. Lots and lots of dice. smile.gif

Ya but God doesn't play dice
Rogue_X
i say hes the gay king from vegas due to his intro at the beginning

i will laugh my ass off if it turns out he is actualy richards mom...actualy i wouldnt be surprised he does have feminine features O.o has cale checked to make sure he is a he and not a she?
Gathers Scrolls
Great. Now all I can think about is Vaarsuvius, the elf in Order of the Stick: no one knows whether or not that character's a he or a she, and it's a running gag that no one's been able to find out. biggrin.gif

Scratch that: I'm also thinking of those chest-popping aliens from the movies . . . tongue.gif
siriusthebroom
Hmmm I'm personally subscribing to the theory that Cale was the result of a cosmic cycle. fate looked into the future realized it needed a hero and proceeded to create Cale out of necessity
Makaan
In the end there will be cross breeding and possible half dwarf/elf babies or green elf babies or troll/centuar babies

Either way a picnic for Dick and a sore ass for benny

"Yes I had to say it"

"Sue me"
Bag-o-Legion-Ears
I believe i explain it in the Theory thread... kidna.
Berserkas
While the "being created by soemone" is pretty damn obvious and obviously true, he simply might be a descendant of the good elves:
http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/40
panels 2-3 "Some of us will survive, then. Gamlon will endure."

End of story.

Centaur? Since when has there been any folks that were human-type from the waist up, connected to a horses body were the neck should be?

Surely you mean minotaur.

Novalyyn
One of my roomie's coworkers recently made the same mistake, only in reverse. He thought a centaur was called a minotaur. Apparently, he wants to be a centaur for Halloween.

But that's unrelated. Therefore: Cale is an example of spontaneous existence. *nods*
Bloodaxe
cale is plain weird!!!???
Makaan
Sry just that when Richard was at the wall guard and brought the bag of centaur hoofs I incidently typed thats

BACK TO SUBJECT and B.O.L.E thanks for being a personal asshole to me and Love you to bro

I stick to the fact of him being A. From a royal family and take up his mantle as a leader like King Arthur

B. Pesent to Royalty done by that Magus with Richard as his personal jesture of destruction and vaction planner. "So wana visit that little town"

C. Disney is fucking with us with RoboDisney.
geminight
cale always remind me of a small town kid that moved to the city, and made friends with some of the people that your mother told you to stay away form

I love this theory! smile.gif

Personally, I think Cale was Drizzt in a past life.

Dual-wielding elven ranger who swears to be different from the rest of his blood-thirsty race. Mmmmhmm...

AND LOL about the Oots elf. He/She is awesome. XD
Necrolord_Bob
I like the character selection theory. It explains why, the one time he goes off alone through a portal, a loading screen comes up :-)
Alaeryn
LOL.

I don't remember that!

I wonder if anyone actually made a Cale character on WOW?

I mean... other than the creators of course.
Necrolord_Bob
