Lately (meaning in the last months), there has been a significant increase in the number of virtual pixel pets such as dragons and such in forum members signatures. There is nothing wrong with that but, keep in mind that the rules do state a maximum amount of sig images of 600x125 pixels in size TOTAL. Those include the ever growing crowds of sig pixel pets. Since these are somewhat of a game, I'll give a fair warning here. If by the end of this week your sigs exceede the total size due to pixel pets, I'll simply take them down. I won't look at what needs to be taken down to meet the limit, I'll simply take each excessive signature down completely.

We've issued enough warnings as is and now you have a week to meet the rules.

Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up..

Why not ban the buggers immediatly ?

Cant stand those things dry.gif

The problem seems to be people thinking the limit is 600x125 pixels per image, when the maximum signature size is 600x125 pixels total, counting all images and all text.

G!

You REALLY need to post more, Ghis.

You haven't been in the Jibber Jabber in what, years?

Anyway...

I'm getting sick of those dragons and such in general.
Ghislord
I'm around ad stuff.. just can't post from work anymore so I'm not there as much is all.

Redington
That and there's basically nothing interesting going on in the JJ anyway. Just a bunch of random weirdos posting.

As for the sig pets, I hate them. They can't beat my mysterious, ominous looking eye thing that is in my sig. It's about time people get a clue.
Nilly
Is my signature alright? I was told that it was 25 or so pix above the limit, but I don't see why it matters. It's not huge.

Well, if they think that, they obviously can't read the rules which state total.

I've been removing folks signatures when they don't obey. I've also banned for breaking the sig rules repeatedly.

We've been fairly lenient. But it's come to a point where people aren't following the rules.

There for...125 is the max. If it's not right, fix it.

Edit: And to be really obnoxious, the following is now being put in sigs that break rules:

"Your sig was in violation of Rule #5 in the Rules Thread:
5. Signatures.
--Signature images need to be restricted to 600x125 pixels and less than 50k in size.
--You may have multiple images in signatures, however they cannot exceed the 125pixel height or the file size.
--Text signatures need to be a little more contained than they have been. translation, tone them down. Many of the signatures make up the majority of a post, which just isn't right. So tone them down. I'd like to keep to a maximum of 6ish lines. I'm not gonna be strict on it unless it doesn't change."

Yay for rules! -Claps-

It might not be huge, but if it's a bit too tall, others will say "Well, he's got a sig that's just a bit too big, why can't I?" Soon, you have folks running around whose sigs are just "a bit too big", and eventually you have people who will make the sig a bit bigger, then a bit bigger, then a little bit more, etc.
Some sigs are just fucking huge, and signatures shouldn't be bigger than most posts. I don't see why people are having a hard time understanding that concept.

I mod on another site, and we had similar problems. People were using a browser add-on to get by the limitations imposted by the site, arguing left and right about how "But I'm just changing my sig divider from --- to ~~~" or "But I need just one more line for my signature" etc. etc. We eventually had to put our proverbial foot down and say "This is the way it is. Deal."

The mods have to draw a line somewhere and stick with it.
Allowing even a few users to bend the rules, no matter how harmless it may seem, renders the rule completely useless.

This goes for ALL sigs, not just the pet ones...keep that in mind.

Yes Ma'am! But, shouldn't we link the old sig rules here too, or, pin it up with this so it doesn't get......spammed back 53959 pages....
Nilly
Fine, I'll change my sig. rolleyes.gif My sig isn't even that big, it's not what takes up my post, it's the freakin' bar on the side of the board.
Metalcommand
I hate those virtual pet. C'mon, get a life dry.gif

That's not the point.

The point is if we give you the extra pixels, someone else will want the extra pixels, or go over the file size etc.

And we've been lenient, up to a point, but as usual, some folks had to repeatedly push the rules, so now we have to be mean and enforce it across the board.
Nilly
Maybe make a size reference block that isn't the Care Bears of Doom (which honestly people don't seem to be taking seriously)? I can do that, just give me ten minutes.

EDIT:

That good? :\ I'm adjusting my signature again, though NOW it's because I noticed (When I was checking the size) there's a crapload of excess pixels above my head. Dammit.

EDIT2: GODDAMN IT I HATE PHOTOBUCKET! It shrunk the image. DX
Ghislord
Kayhynn has one of thoe but way funnier.

I'm a more "You do bad! See? your sig be gone" type.
Now is the time of reckonning. You have been warned.

Some people post more than a few sentences though, which would mean the sig goes below the sidebar.

A hole in the law?
Kayhynn
Actually no. The law says 6-8 lines, not sentences.
So yours is technically breaking the rules too, since you have 7 lines and an image that equalls another 2-3 lines.
