Don't feel bad, I didn't get it at first either; and it popped up right after I finished the series.

And how would it cut Ray'd's foot? Ray'd's foot is a hoof.

They should have put landmines in those holes. It makes more sense to do so, with all their gnomey technology, instead of putting men in there.

Someone was thinking on the same page as I...
I think they are just going to pop out of the ground... Only in a more explosive fashion, because you have the legarion army accounted for, you have all the faction leaders except the mother... and then most of the group is left behind...

Whose watching the Bloodrage base and taking care of that dragon army?

Actually, not WWII, the helmets those soldiers are wearing, and the fact that they must cross a "minefield" or better yet, a gnomefield, that looks like it's just been bombed, to get to the fight gave me strong WWI feelings. But why would Legaras forces be wearing the same helmets as the Brittish forces then?
Anyway, loved the whack a gnome tactic, though it seems to be very suicidal in the end when facing a much larger group, and the drill that comes up in the last frame... I dunno, feels like an attack from Legara, but they haven't done sneak attacks as far as I know, just big stuff and overwhelming with numbers. And what kind of technology do they really have?

They have teevee as we can see, so they must have some sort of spy equipment, or
manned flying scouts.

I'm pretty sure that leaving off with the drill thing is supposed to imply that it's not friendly and make you worry and want to know what happens.
Possibly only to find out that it's reinforcements. *shrugs* We'll know sometime within the next couple weeks, I sure. ^^

I'm guessing it's not a Legarian drill. From what I've seen it seems that Legara is a more 'strength' based nation. Prefering large offensives rather than tactical operations.
My guess would be underground gnome-scouts, reporting movements, numbers, possibly information?

I must lol at this!!
This is most certainly enemy forces popping up inside the base to take out the siege equipment!
Legara is a huge nation, and has been for thousands of years, it must have a lot of tactics to deploy!
If they make a frontal assault, while dragons rain fire and death from above, and dwarfs pop out smack in the middle of everything, they would have a huge advantage.
or its just the sons along with the group and über pwnage/Richard/drilling dick... might actually be a possibility
But i think its safe to asume there will be another lotr reference

Yes it has veered off course from what it originally was, but that is to be expected. I'd be willing to bet this comic wasn't originally fleshed out this far at all and evolved as the characters did, each gaining a personality. There is no real main character any more.

I've got to agree with the few of you that think this is not a friendly drill. It is clearly ominous, and fearsome in it's deadly force.

My guess about the next comic is this:
The gang with all the brothers have no where to escape, the entrance to the prison is blocked off by a reserve unit. One of two this will happen, the brothers show their new escape drill they've finished 2 hours ago; or, fight threw the guard and the drill is a gnome
