Yeah, we complain... but sometimes we have a HUGE issue that really needs a perspective other than our own. So, I propose this: we offer a REAL, WORKING helpdesk. Apply your problem here and anyone who replies is welcome to add their perspective on the situation. Please, try to refrain from using real names, addresses, or any identifying information. (Even if the other person allows you to do so) Also, try to stay within the guidelines of the forum board. After all, I don't want to get a PM from Kaydiddles or Ghisly-kins telling me they had to shut this down for one reason or another. I also ask that if you feel your response to the person's problem would be viewed as judgemental and critical (rather than supportive and constructive) then I ask that you don't reply. This thread is designed to help people-- not belittle them.

Thanks, and have fun seeking help. You're not obligated to take this assistance to heart. I just feel that it is nice to get a different perspective on a situation than the people who are directly involved or are around the situation.

Here is a small problem that I faced yesterday. While it is in the process of the bureaucracy that is required to take care of it, it is nice to see what others would do.

A woman and her active duty E-8 husband come up to my window at the pharmacy. I take in the ID, look up the profile and ask them what they would like me to help them with. The woman explained that she and her husband were stationed at the Air Force base in Arizona and drove all the way to San Diego to collect a refill on a medication. I look up the profile to check on the medication status. Usually, for people, we offer them 14 days early of a non-controlled / non-narcotic prescription. Especially if they live far and the medication is only readily available through us. Well, it was none of those. And it was 60 days early. I told the woman that there was nothing I could do to help her and that the hospital rules stated that she would have to wait until that two week timeframe. If it was an emergency, I could direct her to the emergency room and they would be happy to sort out the problem. It wasn't that she didn't have the pills-- she wanted them early.

The woman, in her anger, threw my phone at me and proceeded to tell me, verbatim: "You don't need to tell me what to do. My husband is active duty and higher ranking than you. I don't need to take orders from a fucking immigrant." My jaw hit the floor. I'm so far removed from being an immigrant, its not even funny. (Although I do have a bit of a northern plains accent) I told her that I was a certified Sioux-Dakota, and not an immigrant. It made her angry that I corrected her, so she proceeded to throw a picture of David I have on my desk, at me. Nearly hit me, too.

After she left, I told my commander. Most of my co-workers are Filipino immigrants, and were more offended by the remark than I was. So now, I'm not entirely sure what to do to calm them down. They're in an uproar about it!

Great, a thread where I'm completely useless.

*reads post*

Uhm... stab her if she comes back?
Sayuri Kajira
I'm not going to stab the woman. I'm actually seeing if I can go towards her losing her privilages to come here. Getting free medical benefits through your sponsor isn't a right. Its a privilage.
Frosti
Uhm, tell your superiors that she's been behaving like a cow and, uhm, she's been treating you like shit?

Screw it, I'm not good at this.

I'd definitely let your superiors handle it, and let them know she physically assaulted you as well; that was entirely uncalled for and honestly, I wouldn't have blamed you if you'd slapped her on the spot. :\ I may be wrong, but her acting like that could very well hurt her husband's rank.

Also, let me get this straight for a sec:

"Usually, for people, we offer them 14 days early of a non-controlled / non-narcotic prescription. It wasn't that she didn't have the pills-- she wanted them early."

If the drug she wanted was a narcotic, I honestly believe that that very well could be grounds for finding out if she's addicted to it. If I took that out of way, I apologize. >>; However, the way she acted and the fact she wanted some prescription 60 days early is bothering me; is she acting this way because of her husband's rank? blink.gif

You know this is the exact reason why my roommate doesn't want to work retail when he becomes a Pharm Tech. The best thing you can do about a woman like that is just say "Wow what a crazy bitch, I hope I don't really have to deal with her that often." That way (if you believe that comment) your head mostly says "meh fuck it" and you can carry on. Another way of dealing with it is by going through with seeing what sort of punishment she could face. At that point you most likely wouldn't have to deal with her again or she will just be a giant bitch any other time she makes the drive.

Hmmm.. can't help you a lot with the woman thing, sounds to me like something best left up to your superiors.

About the imigrant thing and calming down your co-workers though, It's a very touchy subject... the multiple conflicting emotions and thoguhts about the issue from both sides (the imigrant shemselves and the citizens of the country recieving them) make it somewhat volatile... I would suggest avoiding any discussion on immigration with them for the next reasonable period of time (so as to not open the wound), and urging your superiors to do something about what the woman said as well as about what she did, that way it won't seem like they don't care about the immigrant worker's feelings.

wow.

wow.

When I worked customer service I had a guy throw a pen at me once. Had some other guy yell at me on the phone for over 15 minutes, once, too. All for just not liking our rules. That's the worst, though.

just wow, though

Wow.

Firstly, she honestly expects to get her refill two months earlie? That was an over reaction to say the least

Secondly , that comment struck a nerve. I am not an immigrent, and I don't get accused of being one, but I really dislike the fact that she thinks that sombody is inferior to her just because there an immigrent and she isn't. Does this woman honesly think that since she was born in America, she is better than sobody that wasn't? That really pisses me off [/rant]

from a legal standpoint, she attemped assault and that alone is very serious. Not quiet sure hat you should do

In fact most non-indian americans are immigrants. Or their ancestors were, at least.

Natives even moved here from Asia, though I find some people just can't help but be racist, except one way, open fire spits, just cook the xenophobic fear right out of them.

Or lobotomies, let that evil prejudiced spirit out of their head.

Cool. Dis somebody prepare holy water ?

The attempted assault should be enough to keep her far from any type of drug unless it is a major emergency and that rather scathing remark was so far out of line its not on the map. I agree with the others and just try to let the superiors deal with it.

I used to drink at this biker bar in newcastle, years ago
Anyway, one day three 'trendies' (what we would now call chavs) came in, and remember, this is a bar populated by metlers, punks, bikers, hells angels, and the odd trucker. Both bar staff and punters.

The barmaids kept themselves busy for 45 minutes, serving other folks, getting stuff from the celler, restocking, cleaning tables, serving other people who just arrived, etc. 45 minutes. Eventualy the 3 guys got over being annoyad at the wait, and being unable to start a ruccus (cos of all the obviously tooled up bikers), they got bored and left.

Something to remember when this bitch comes in, on time, for her meds.
