To get to it.

I have very long and very thick hair, and I need a solution after I wash it and hop out of the shower. What is a better way to dry your hair than a blow dryer? I know letting it dry naturally works out but I need a very very fast way to dry my hair, in an amount of 10-20 minutes max. I HATE drying my hair with a blow dryer, as it will make my hair very dry and have some hairs poof out which annoy the sh*t out of me, and make my hair look horrible in the morning.

So is there a fast, non harmful, non hair dryer alternative to drying long thick hair?
Jaezelle
nope. blow dryer is as fast as it gets. If you don't mind slowish drying- put it in a loose braid and leave it down your back- you'll end up with small waves when you take it out. You can also toss it up in a bun, which will NOT let your hair dry out, but it will keep your wet hair out of your face and off your neck.

If you desperately want it dried fast, there are products which are specifically for use with heated tools like blow dryers and straightners. The products are designed to minimize fizz, keep your hair smooth, and protect it from damage.

Bah, well another question arises.

I can let it dry naturally via taking a shower at night and letting it dry as I sleep. Which has worked time to time but the main problem is, that it gets a little too Oily from the humid air of Louisiana. Or I get a little too hot from walking around the offices too often. I figured it was due to sweat coming from the top of my heads sweat glands and trailing down the hairs, making it into some tiny clumps of oily feeling hair. Which makes it a tad bit embarrassing for me and it is fuggin ANNOYING! I hate the feeling of oily hair. So what are some recommended ways to prevent oily hair later in the day/sweating from the head in a hot humid environment.

Judgin by your profile, im going to assume your a male, if not i apoligise,
but the only advice i can give you is, google it.
Honest to god, google.. is like god himself giving you the answers...
(sometimes u get what you want, other times you dont)

ON subject:
wouldnt it be easier just to cut your hair? spike it.. or military that shi7 ?
you could make a poll on this but i've had long hair and i've had short and often times (90%)
i've gotten postive responses from shorter hair then longer.

Makes you look cleaner, your face even looks clear (due to less oil/hair in your face) and chicks will know ur a dude and bam!

smile.gif thats all i gotta say!

IN short: i think ur hair look better short... even if ur a chick lol.

No, I will not cut it. Many people said they like it long.

And by my pictures, I might look like my head will work with short hair, but no. I DO NOT LOOK GOOD WITH SHORT HAIR! As said by many people whom have seen me with short hair, I look horrible.
And seein' ye as a male, it would be hard for you to see the way the ladies are. I even thought about cutting it and it made a friend cry.

Also tried google =P Hince why I am asking here. But I appreciate you offering aid either way.

Try John Frieda products on your hair. I use the shampoos, conditioners and the hair serum.
Also, use soft water. If you have hard water, try adding a little Calgon to a small bucket of cool water, and rinse your hair with it. Soft water makes a huge difference.

Your hair sounds a lot like my hair, except mine's curly. Letting very long, thick hair dry naturally seems to make it heavier and it does get dirty and oily faster.
Try a blowdryer with a diffuser, set on low speed and warm. The diffuser keeps the air from blowing your hair around, which contributes to frizz, but you still get dry hair fairly quickly.

You might also try having a stylist use thinning shears on your hair so it's not so hot and heavy. It'll still look the same as long as they don't go overboard.

If I don't blowdry my hair, it ends up frizzing out and looking like the Wicked Witch of the West's hair crossed with a wire mesh pot scrubber. Seriously. I can't even get a detangling comb through it if I let it dry naturally.

Thank you all for the advice, but threw some experimenting I MIGHT of found a solution.

What I did was take my high powered fan, let it blow on the area I want dried and had my blowdryer on low as I let both of them blow on the same area I desire. I did it and my hair is feeling great, it is soft and smooth and feels comfy on my head. But a problem still remains, some hairs want to poke out on the side. Its like seeing a row of guitar strings but seeing one that is very short but poking out.

I need a solution to have EVERY single hair going down, none sticking out. Would flat ironing solve this?

Baby powder will cut out the oil in your hair.

You only use a little and comb it out. It is a consultant trick, like rolling up clothing to pack.

Was thinking of just like, splashing a bit on there. nvm, just me having a brain fart =P

My suggestion. yet again...
go emo~
Jaezelle
well, if you don't want to go the baby powder route, you can get some translucent(?) powder that chicks use on their face and use that. again, lightly. just a little bit. it soaks up grease really good.
dreamchaser
You can actually buy "hair powder" that is specifically designed for such a need. Link.
It won't make your hair look grey (like baby powder does) or make-up coloured either.

I also have long hair that gets oily easily. This is why I don't blow dry - the heat stimulates oil glands. I'm lucky that mine air-dries relatively quickly. To keep it from getting too oily, I find it's best to have it tied back in a ponytail/braid/bun and avoid touching it. When it's really hot out, I put it up in a bun while it's still damp and it keeps me cool all day long. Of course, you don't see very many men wearing buns these days. tongue.gif

Good luck. I think your best bet is to buy an anti-frizz product designed for blowdrying with no 'flyaways'.

Try towel-drying with a perfectly dry towel. If you do it right, it actually helps your hair dry faster. Okay, yeah, it does knot your hair up, but because it doesn't 100% dry your hair instantly you're still able to get the knots out relatively easily.

Basically, take the towel and rub it on the top of your head, a lot. Mess up your hair if you have to, to get it dryer. Then dry the ends of your hair, BUT DO NOT WRING!! You wring it, you're basically strangling your hair. O_o Just wrap the towel a bit around your hair, do not twist the towel, and rub back and forth.

May take several tries to understand it, but since I has no camera. Words is my friend. biggrin.gif

But yeah. Also, I find sleeping on a towel can help dry your hair out.

Or do what Sayuri said and stick your head out a car window on the freeway. tongue.gif It really does work, except you feel a bit like an eighties hair model after.

On a somewhat related note, I think more women should shave their head. It speaks of a great confidence when a woman does it.

It's rare that they actually have this confidence but then, most confident people are horribly insecure. They're just better at hiding it.

Dry it halfway at home, then do the Ace Ventura. It'll have natural body and wave and all that good stuff. By the way, if your hair is oily (like mine), avoid moisturizing shampoos/conditioners. And you're right, towel drying isn't a good idea.

This might sound slightly idiotic, but make sure you wring your hair out in the shower as much as you can (until it's not dripping primarily). That helps. (I used to have much longer hair and that helped.)

Um. Yeah.

Towel drying damages your hair.

Only if you rub vigorously or twist or wring the hair excessively. Hair is elastic while wet and more easily damaged. You can, however, use a towel to squeeze the excess water from the hair. I do so multiple times while going about my morning bathroom routine. It moves down to the ends and I squeeze it out. Quick dry!

Know you dont want to hear it but if the tips laid out before you dont work, you might just have to go with the emo philosophy.

Cutting is easier. tongue.gif

I towel-dry, and have wonderful curls. happy.gif I do understand longer hair takes a lot more work, but I suppose I'm not one for putting that much work into aesthetics. I should, so people don't have to put up with my rancid exterior, but I can't be perfect.

Although I'm debating growing my hair out again, or keeping it as it is. I have no idea.

I don't know how long your hair actually is, but you could try cutting SOME of it (keeping it long, but not as long.) If possible, throw your hair up into a towel to absorb some of the water (you don't have to rub it like mad, just let it sit). A low ponytail will keep it off the back of your neck while it dries, and detangler can make life much, much easier.

(I often have to run out the door with wet hair, because I either refuse to/or lack the time to dry it. Keeping it neat is a priority, so I tend to spray it with detangler, comb it through, and then I decide whether or not I want to tie/clip it back. This generally depends on the weather.)

Also, I don't know how comfortable you'd be with the idea, but you could ask whoever cuts your hair about thinning it. Thicker hair takes longer to dry.
