***Update:
Thanks to everyone who has applied! We will be getting in touch with you shortly!
/***

It’s been something we’ve been working on for quite some time now, but to answer a question I’ve received a ridiculous amount of times: Yes, we will be translating Looking for Group in to other languages.

With that, I’m putting out the call for translators for the following languages:

Mandarin
Spanish
French
German
Portuguese (Brazilian)

Applicants should be comfortable in Adobe Photoshop or other graphic editors, as they will be responsible for editing the comic page file. Translators will be rewarded with all the LFG/LICD merchandise they can handle.

Should you be interested, ONLY in the languages mentioned above, please send an e-mail to , with the subject LFG Translation: Language; where ‘language’ is the one you’re applying for.

Thanks to everyone who applies.

- Because I Can.
Silverstar
All the LFG gear you can handle? *swoon* I wish I could speak spanish well enough...
Neuromante
Wich it's the level of the photoshop/gimp translation?
Shame on me not know enough to make the spanish translation sad.gif

(For reference, I' from Spain ^^u)
Frank Sands
I already applied, but I have a doubt: in the case of Portuguese, there is a major difference between the Portuguese used in Portugal and the one used in Brazil. I live in Brazil, and would be honored to help, but was wondering on how this question would be handled.
Fynnen
I was wondering, do we need to be professionnal translator to help you (i.e. studying/studied in that) or just able to translate? Because I speak french, i'm a french canadian, and understand english.
Dionysos
OMG I talk French ...I could do it laugh.gif and not only I talk French, I live near of Montreal too tongue.gif

Well, my wife is a native Spanish speaker. And she just recently quit her job to stay at home with the baby. Unfortunately, neither of us have Photoshop skills. If she agrees to do it (which is a huge maybe) we'd only have the translation in words.
Mike TUMS
Well, if you will need Russian translation in future - give me a sign... Russian is my native language, so...
buzo
Well my native language is spanish and I'm good at photoshop.
Isamith

Well, I have photoshop skills, but just not enough language knowledge to translate (I used to be bilingual (Eng/Fre) but haven't spoke a word of French since I graduated high school and went to Halifax for a couple years (then back to NB but yeah.)

So if anyone wanted to collaborate, I'd be happy to provide my skills in any way I can.

Hi Mr Sohmer, i just sent you an e-mail, i can happily translate into portuguese, as i'm a navite Portuguese, as the other member said, there's quite a big difference between Portuguese from Portugal and Portuguese from Brasil, so please take that into consideration when choosing. Also, i use Corel Photo Paint, if that helps with choosing the file extension you send the files in.
Inny
It's a pity you do not plan a polish version. I'm quite good at PS and polish is my native language. Probably I'll translate some pages for my friends (they want to read, but English is 'painful' for them wink.gif ) and I'd like to share it to others.
Contact me if there would be demand for a polish version.

Greetings,
i really apreaciate the LFG comics and i think i could help in portuguese translations
Yajirobe
I'd gladly translate the comics myself too. I already sent the e-mail but, as FrankSands said, there is a substantial difference between Portuguese from Portugal and Portuguese from Brazil. I am a Brazilian myself and could help with the Brazilian Portuguese, but I'd like to know which Portuguese you need.

hmm

Sentence should be

"Ich habe sechs Jahre lang Deutsch studiert"

I guess I'm not good enough in english to translate it. But I'm asking a friend.
Kayhynn
It depends on what tense you are in. The translation of what I was saying was "I have studied German for six years."

I could have easily said "Ich habe studiert Deustsch fur sechs Jahre" but it wasn't the correct past tense I was looking for. It's been *counts* 5 years since I completed school and haven't had to use it since then. I was bilingual in it at one point in time.
Threeshades
I also applied for the German translation. Maybe I could have mentioned my forum username... Well then I will do it the other way around: The application email I sent is signed by Tobias Beis.

------------

Ich habe mich ebenfalls für die deutsche Übersetzung beworben. Vielleicht hätte ich meinen Forum-Benutzernamen erwähnen können... Naja, dann werde ich es eben andersherum machen: Die Bewerbungs-Email wurde von Tobias Beis unterschrieben.

I sent the mail this morning (GMT+1) from Frederic Laplace (erf ! mt secret identity!)

Loving the comic, and tempted by the challenge to translate idioma jokes.
Few experience with gimp, worked as technical translater and should I mention french is my native language.

J'en profite pour faire un coucou aux fans français de LFG qui ne comprennent pas toujours les blagues mais qui s'marrent bien quand même ^^

PS: qnd I hqve q french keyboqrd &&& (qwerty joke)

whooooo.
Many Brazilians on this one, it will be hard to choose.
Let Richard make the rules for the incoming onslaught. (it would be fun).
Well, good luck everyone, me and some friends of mine are also in the list, weapons ready, for the qualifying rounds.
May the chosen one bring us all an era of enlightment, at least before Dick make another caos of the planes.

See Ya.

Hmm... I can think of several reasons.

1) Because Swedish isn't a major world language, with less than 9 million people who speak it.

2) Because the Swedish people are good at speaking English and doesn't have anything against reading and listening to English.

3) Because we have no reason to dub everything we see... I've watched forgein television... no need to say anything else.

Do you need more reasons and explination? But in case Sohmer needs a Swedish translator there will be many willing candidates.
Richard the Great
I sent you a couple of mails from different accounts, mr. Sohmer, just in case one of them is lost. Professional interpreter English-Spanish and viceversa here (and even if I have no knowledge of Photoshop, I'd happily translate the text and send it to you to be incorporated into the comic). I can give a hand with French and Portuguese too.
Palomina
Yay! LFG in other languages smile.gif

Would also apply for English/German translation, having grown up bilingual in those languages, but I'm useless at Photoshop, so there you go...

Will check out the German when it comes out, though wink.gif

Best of luck (and fun) to the translators!
Kerimaya
Wow, already a lot of german translators! But if you're still looking for english/german translation, my friend and I would be happy to do it!
Grynax
ah, well, i applied for german translation too as i'm austrian, but when there are so many applicants... well, i'm aware that i probably won't be taken happy.gif but good luck to everyone else laugh.gif
Córiban
So viele deutsche hier? Is ja irre. ;P
Da hat man mal ne Idee, schickt dem guten Sohmer eine Mail, und das hier kommt dabei raus. Wer hätte das gedacht. =)

Actually, did you know that most of French versions of the big movies you see in theatres and everywhere were translated in Quebec? It is true that the French from France and Quebec is slightly different, spoken mostly, but Quebecers actually have very good writing skills. Even if they are but a small pool of French speaking in an English-speaking North America smile.gif
deblette
Hello Mr. Sohmer, I sent you an email a couple minutes ago regarding my application as a translator for English/French. Like Maya said even if the speaking is different from Quebec to France, the words are written the same way. The only diference might come in the expression.

With regards, Deblette

Dudes,

I applied for the German translation since I am half Kraut and I can has LFG merchandise now!?

I'd be thrilled if it works out.

A friend of mine suggested a possible Japanese translation as well. She thinks that would be pretty awesome.
B10Reaper
I sent a message, but I don't think I worded it properly lol damn you English grammar! I've lived in Canada for, oh, 18 years now, and ich sprechin sie Deutsche sehr gut! Its German from Deutscheland, not Austria, I hope that is what you are looking for?
Roisin
Um, what might be a good idea is that if you've got multiple people wanting to translate... give each of them a part of the story. They'd of course have to get int touch with each other to figure certain things out, but especially with German, there are like six of us... and there are six volumes!!!

I personally would need a little help with the photoshopping, but I lived in Germany for a year and my Aunt taught me Gerrman from an early age...

So anyone concur? I'm sorry if this has already been done, but that just came to me.
WarTiger
Well, we need to see how far they are taking this project.
Are the comics the only thing they will be translating? Or they will translate the site? Comments? Merchandise?
Their whole site do generate a lot of translating material, but if it's only the comic, a good translator can catch up within a month (and if it's the only thing he does in his life, within a week or less).

It's still too early to say anything in this matter though, and they must be receiving lots of messages (mostly because of the "every LFG Merchandise you can handle").

See ya Guys.

I'm sure they will figure something out. We'll just have to wait and see.

Concerning the Merchandise I think that most of the applicants just want to help and don't care about the bonus. That's just my opinion though.

At least it's more frequently spoken than Portuguese and German, as a lot of schools in the world offer Russian as a free-to-choose subject.

So yes, it is a major language.
