It's for a story of mine that I might unleash as an RP on the forums to see what it'll be like.
I'm hoping for an androgynous name, nothing too feminine, or too masculine, but bottom line is a planet that you'd be willing to be on. I mean, Earth is find enough, but far too bland and not exotic enough.
The name should sound ancient and futuristic at the same time.
...Actually, I should just shut up about the criteria and see what everyone has to offer.
EDIT: And also a title for an authority figure; basically a synonym for "emperor".

Harash?
Those are my ideas

, also can I get in on this RP

Both good names, but for some reason, not what I was looking for. I think the key parts are "Y" and the "Sh" sounds that are detracting from it...I'll play around with the sounds for a bit, see what I can do to mesh the ideas.
Relating to the RP, I'll be typing up the plot, and sending it to my co-author for review; the RP will be an experiment on how well readers can integrate themselves into the story. This is actually a little private project of ours, that we're hoping to flesh out into a book...and maybe some other things.
EDIT: If the planet were Tapio, would that make its residents Tapiocans?
EDIT II: Found an interesting one; Valterra. Means "strong earth".

Aelos I kind of like for a planet name, though I'd have a hard time deciding what to call the inhabitants....
If not then I'd say Er'Tela, or something like that can work with giving it a different sound structure?
don't know.

I named the planet Nargar A'Zool (Life from Death) for Life and Death and Sacred Rites in the Elementals series... I would suggest landing on a specific thing your planet is named after (a god? an atribute? a race?) and having a general idea of a language that this planet is named in (it doesn't have to be the language used by the inhabitants), then you're pretty much set.

Name it "Your mom."
All joking aside, what sort of phonetic layout are you looking for? Do you want something harsh and staccatto or something flowing?

Well, I'm hoping for something that has no apostrophes (stricly "English"), utilitarian/utopian, with a sort of "Empire" feel. It can be any sort of inflection, but I'm more partial to flowing than harsh. I'm open to awesomeness, though.

Empires as a rule don't deal well with anything that might even sound like "anarchy", so I'm afraid that suggestion is out...I'll consider it for one of my Sins of a Solar Empire maps, though.

When thinking up names for things, whether they be people or places, I find it helps to take ideas from things around you. Look around your room or your desk for random items you can get ideas from. Stick random words together, or throw caution to the wind, close your eyes and type randomly.
That last one prolly isn't the best idea, since you could end up with a planet named sjfdeshshd or something. XDDD But hey, its worth a shot. I once looked through a word search book to find random words to use for character and place names.
Lets see... looking around my own desk, I got a cup of coffee, a fan, a Sims game, random papers... my cat. Coffansimpapercat? Okay, so now I'm just being silly, but sometimes throwing random words together isn't a bad idea.

Dronehir. I have no idea. I'm mashing letters together. Want a good name? Find Scrabble letters, shake them in a hat and then toss them out. Like an Oracle. "Your name shalt be... XCGERT?"

I'd hazard a guess at halucinogenic drugs.
Question, are you looking to make the planet a single word name? or would multiple words be acceptable?
Hmm... a royal title... that one's more dificult, because it depends entirely on the linguistics of whatever particular race the entittled would rule over.

I've always found that anything authoritarian tends to be anywhere from 3-5 syllables. At least from my perspective. Anything shorter sounds kinda lazy and less important, and anything larger just gets ridiculous and sounds like it's compensating for something.
I've always had fun smashing my face into the keyboard and making up syllables with whatever comes up.
Here's a few tries...
regujmikitgbyh.... Rigomih, Jomebek.
spgiogid... Spiogid, Spioged
rqptjfvmai... Gevimai, Jefimey, Raqimev.
Well, after a few more tries, usually a good idea comes to mind.

Well, the Danish word for Emperor is Kejser.
The Finnish is Keisari.
German: Kaiser
French: Empereur (Mjeh)
And the Romanian is Împăratul. (Imparatul without any funkyness)
I've run out of dictionaries now. ^^

Having more than one word is debatable, but if it'll work, go for it.
I'm a little iffy on the language issue; it WILL be English, but I'm considering putting in influences from other languages.

Cause it's easier to make things sound catching (meaning attracting (meaning people will look further (meaning the people who think up new ideas will be out of a jobs))) when you pick a specific word people already know. >.>
Mirth
Cringe
Shrill
Penitent (penitence, penant, etc.)
Chaff
Brummegam
etc.
I mean, it would only make sense if the planet was founded by english speakers. (earth only meant dirt before the planet was named such) You could go to Thesaurus.com, type a word you like, and find some odd synonym. You could also pick some word you wouldn't find in a dictionary, but most people know anyway. Like the Atlantis thing, work it around: Oceanis, Sentis, Atlam, etc. (One example, made to be corny. D: )
And even if you don't like my idea too well, I inspired myself. >.>

Oh, oh, oh, I remember having trouble coming up with names for planets when I was writing that really awesome (As in awesome in my head, not lame when it came to writing it, despite my obvious writing prowess </arrogance>) sci fi novel of mine.
I went with anagrams, lamely enough. One planet had dinosaur-like reptiles on it - I don't remember the exact details - but I rearranged the letters in 'Watch Out for Dinos' into Dorsnif Wotchatcho, or something like that. Occasionally I added extra letters to make the words a little less awkward to look at.
Gee, I actually had to this thing up to figure out what the name of the planet had been.
Found my alien language dictionary. LMAO. I need to delete shit from my laptop fo srs.
So, my advice is just to...take a fact or something about the planet and make an anagram of it.

It should atleast have an 'X' in it
Like:
Groxam
Graxis
Praxis (lol, if ur dutch you'll get this one)
Laxis
Eraxis
qwerty
That all i can think of, but perhaps you should look for some old words for the elements, like fire and wind. You as in earth but than epic. BTw Terra is the official word for Planet Earth, so why not experiment with that.
Good luck with finding a name
