Are you wanting the present version, or the past chapters version? Because the present Richard's pauldrons just got pulled out in a more angular shape; reminds me of Saiyan armor.
Dark blue tunic with silver trim on the sleeve cuffs and a bold black stripe down the chest and back; triple layer pauldrons. For the old Richard, you can make them out of a narrow bucket; chop it in segments, stitch them together, maybe layer them in the same black fabric you're using, and you have a chitinous armor. New Richard is a little more complicated; make concentric diamond shapes out of cloth with a hole for your head in the middle, and pad each layer with that crafting foam, to make for layers. (the foam that you make birds with googly eyes with). End with a triple layered skirt/robe, and a red trimmed hood. Oh, and that red gem.
For the tunic, I suggest you hack a dark blue shirt's front into thirds, and get rid of the middle third, then sew the black in. If you look at Richard's design, his shirt terminates into three ends, the blue splitting from the black, which ends in a diamond. For making the hood, most patterns go with two D shapes sewn together, but given the squarish cast of Richard's head, and the nature of most fantasy hoods, you'll probably go with three bits and scrap the D shape entirely. Hoodies do not make evil warlocks.
Most people who make fantasy hoods have a pattern similar to a trapezoid shape. This makes for two distinct corners; one for the back of the head (leave much space beyond your forehead so the hood shades your head sufficiently) and the one on the bottom, which fills out the entire hood and adding a little sag that adds more to the back of the entire costume. Leave some trial and error for the measurements, and be experimental; some things work, some things don't. Live and adapt.
Hope some of this information didn't come off with a patronizing air, and that it helps you in what you're trying to do.
You're not patronizing at all. Thanks for all that info!
I've decided to go with the older design of Richard's costume but it's funny how I've only noticed now that the stuff the characters wear have changed XD I'm almost done with the sketch. It might still be a long time before I get the costume done with her though

Once again, thanks so much!
