I agree that Richard is adventuring and having loads of fun is treating things as jokes, rather than seriously, but I think he's always done that. Other than occasionally snacking in orphanages, he rarely killed outside of battles. The "Rawr?" reminded me of the wimpy "Grr?" on
page 15. That's not a recent page.
I think that that the main thing that has changed is that things are happening more slowly than they used to. I think Richard is doing less killing because the strip has less action in it then it used to. The action that has occurred hasn't been very satisfying, either.
What I mean is that the current story arc started on Page 117. In the 60 pages since then Richard hasn't had a chance to do much. He was able to act as a big bad-ass for just a little while in the battle where they were captured, but since he wound on the loosing side, it doesn't seem so great any more. Then on the break-out, he couldn't do anything much because of the wards on his shackles. After that, it was mostly about the Bloodrage for a while. When the Sisters attacked, it was still more about the Bloodrage than the group, so other than the Dick Roll'd joke, there wasn't much attention paid to him. At the end of the battle, the Sisters banned him, so that battle didn't do much to remind people of his awesomeness, either. I think the courtroom scene was supposed to be awesome, but it was too weird and childish to to make much of an impression. (I think the last page with Richard and the judge was good, but not the rest.) Once the courtroom scene was over, Richard was still stuck in the Plane of Suck until Benny and Pella rescued him.
