don't really know if this has been pointed out before, my apologies if it has - well as i've read the recent pages i can't help but notice that Richards seems...more friendly looking like the new page when he says "don't mind if i do" and "rawr?"
Rip Van Ishmael
Yeh, it is kinda unnerving.
Aeriosa
well, he did say that the memories were changing him.

but its not like hes "changing alignment". it doesnt seem like he is, anyway. he still attacked a tiny, helpless city. if you think about it, there hasnt been a whole lot of opportunity for him to be epically destructive. true, he didnt hurt Cale when he glomped him, but think he was just surprised by that.

give him some time. hell be off destroying cities and lives in no time :3
fae_lord
Even if Richard is undergoing a change, I'm sure that all of his destructive tendencies won't disappear. In the last comic, he pulled out some bloody organs, so that says something.

Yeah, pulling out organs is definitely something our typical Richard would do.

Maybe... Maybe he's relaxing?

This is a bit deep for me, even, but... It seemed like, before, all his murderings and whatnot were done as efficiently as possible- to kill and mutilate as many he he could in any given situation. Like he was out for a purpose, fulfilling some goal. Now he's like... He's not just killing, he's adventuring; and he's having loads of fun doing it.

Is that just me, maybe?
Schnoodledorfer
I agree that Richard is adventuring and having loads of fun is treating things as jokes, rather than seriously, but I think he's always done that. Other than occasionally snacking in orphanages, he rarely killed outside of battles. The "Rawr?" reminded me of the wimpy "Grr?" on page 15. That's not a recent page.

I think that that the main thing that has changed is that things are happening more slowly than they used to. I think Richard is doing less killing because the strip has less action in it then it used to. The action that has occurred hasn't been very satisfying, either.

What I mean is that the current story arc started on Page 117. In the 60 pages since then Richard hasn't had a chance to do much. He was able to act as a big bad-ass for just a little while in the battle where they were captured, but since he wound on the loosing side, it doesn't seem so great any more. Then on the break-out, he couldn't do anything much because of the wards on his shackles. After that, it was mostly about the Bloodrage for a while. When the Sisters attacked, it was still more about the Bloodrage than the group, so other than the Dick Roll'd joke, there wasn't much attention paid to him. At the end of the battle, the Sisters banned him, so that battle didn't do much to remind people of his awesomeness, either. I think the courtroom scene was supposed to be awesome, but it was too weird and childish to to make much of an impression. (I think the last page with Richard and the judge was good, but not the rest.) Once the courtroom scene was over, Richard was still stuck in the Plane of Suck until Benny and Pella rescued him.

Nice? I don't want nice. He's not Richard if he's nice!
Seriously, the new Richard is kind of nicer, than the old one.
Come on, he didn't even FWOOM the guards on the entry to Legara, or killed thoe blue smurfs.
Plus he has an affection for Felbunny, when he mentioned in "Slaughter Your World" that he LIKES to kill bunnies! sad.gif

His spells may not be fine-tuned enough to take out two tiny guards without wiping out the city. What's wrong with wiping out the city? Too quick. He wanted to hear the terrified screams of the residents. (Personally, I'm wondering what Pella is going to do with the one she's holding. That and just what the heck does felbunny have in his (her?) paws?)

It could be worse. A lot worse. Are you familiar with 'Going Sane', the Joker-centric story where he successfully kills Batman and decides to revert to a 'normal' life?

It could be. A lot. Worse. Hell, not even a lot. Multiple lots.
Aeriosa
i think we should chillax about it. hes Richard, he does what he wants, when he wants, why he wants it.

if Richard stops killing quite so much and we actually get some character development and story advancement, whats the big deal? it will still be LFG and the vast majority of us will still love it :3

agree. Even though he may seem nicer, his attitude to kill/hurt, still is there
iloverichard
I think we've come to the conclusion that, yes, Richard is changing.

Gradually.

If we give it some time, he'll eventually see the difference and try to correct homself. After all, I'm pretty sure no one in the group knows about his little destiny going on here. Maybe when his new additude becomes more obvious, there will be some questioning among them... But for now, he's still as close to the same old Richard as he'll ever be, so it's good to enjoy it while we still can. Hey, at least he's not getting too soft just yet! biggrin.gif
Lord of The Black flames
yeah he is getting nicer i mean in the latest comic of "are we there yet?" at the end Richard makes Cale a Wallet.
and the weird thing is..its a normal wallet something you wouldn't expect i mean there should have been something horrific about it (unless its made out of the skin of that little
blue guy)

Dude, that wallet was made out of a Smurf.

Which is awesome, because Smurfs terrified the hell out of me as a child. Burn you blue little bastards!

I mean, uh...

Smurfy smurf-smurf?
Necro
Nah richard will always be evil
Calista
Maybe is Cale... He's a bad influence!!(in the bad sentece)

If he goes "correcting" himself he's gonna just break the whole thing to be honest.

The only change I see is from one-dimensional character into something more. That doesn't mean he has to become a lawful stupid hero, tho.
Sayuri Kajira
I wouldn't go so far as to say he's getting "nicer" so much as he is beginningto relax a little more with the group. He's pretty much exhausted all of his insults on them, so now he's redirecting his humor on himself, probably out of sheer boredom. I'm sure Cale will do something to screw up and Richard will be on him like white on rice on a paperplate and a glass of milk in a snow storm.
