On WoW I got all the Olympic prizes for competing in the PvP battlegrounds.

I was watching a badmiton (is that how you spell it?) match while witing for the bus, and was delighted when I saw one of the players get peged in the eye with the feathered ball-thing.

I'm not sure whether it's over, but there's pictures of fencing in news sites so at least a part of the competition must have allreay passed.

Yeah, it's like the joke about the guy who asks his nutritionist "well, if eating only healthy foods and excercising makes me live longer, then doesn't that just mean I'll get even more time to eat more healthy foods and exercise?" then you see him sitting in front of the TV and eating a delicious shank of lamb. It's called russian rulette, and I see now that it's pointless to argue about the excersice thing, for some reason people seem even more closed about that than actually controversial subjects.

There are just too many "sports" present over there. I mean, trampoline, jumping into the water, synchronized swimming...why don't they introduce chess and walking the dogs?

Why the hell isn't chess an Olympic sport....its clearly a better workout then....jumping into water in a fancy way....

Less effective now there's no blood in it but it still works to a degree. Competition between nations is inevitable. By regularly scheduling the competition, the chance that it ends in violence is lessened.

It's a question of forty good years to sixty average ones. Since death comes to us all regardless of how we live, many people seek to enjoy life as much as they can. Eating well and exercising is no guarantee to long life.

If they put paintball, why didn't they put airsoft as well?

I may be Canadian, but watching Michael Phelps kick ass has been my favourite part of the Olympics so far. I'm waiting for our hometown hero to win gold in the men's kayak - go Adam van Koeverden!

Lacrosse is fun, played it for a few years. prefer soccer though. one of my shipmates just barely missed the final qualifying round for the olympics.

that's pretty cool.

Because each hosting country gets to add an event or two to the games.

Exhibition events, or some such. To give them a unique flavour. I don't think they're permanent additions as a standard though.

I always thought Lacrosse was like Quidditch.

I've never seen a game of it played and I live in a country that has a competitive team for [nearly] every international sport and at least small, local competitions of many of the others.

I was actually serious about chess. It was less complaining and half wondering. I guess it doesn't actually involve any physical work out or anything....but it takes a huge mental ability....theoretically. Also takes a ton of practice and the people from different countries would still be competing and the such....


We need the nerd division!

Lacrosse is our national sport, and while I have played it, it's not terribly common.

Michael Phelps is the new Captain America. He is now being hailed as "the Greatest Athelete of All Time". He six or so Gold Medals already.

America broke the Woman's Swim Record thing. And France. And Australia. Yes, Gold Silver and Bronze all broke the World Record. Just to be clear, Aussies got first, we got third.

I have noticed that in general, Americans pwn at Swimming and Asians pwn at Gymnastics. Japan, China, and Korea were just doing circles around us.

Yeah, so it has been mostly swimming and gymnastics so far.

The US lost against Korea in Baseball, just thought I should put that out there.

I want Michael Phelps. End of story. Swimmers everywhere: rejoice.
