Alright I had found a book by chance in a library once. Returned to the same library and couldn't find it. I don't know the title the author or anything else even remotely that will help me find it I'm hoping. Given the wonderous list of readers here that you will be able to help me figure out which book and by extension the author and any continued series information regarding this book... and believe me if my librarys kept a log of the books that I had taken out I would already know the answer to this.


Now things that I remember:

Prologue:

at the beginning of this book there is an elf chasing after the last living dragon through snow on some mountain peak, the dragon is extremely hurt and is heading back to her lair. At this lair the dragon mealts their hoarde and creates a gemmed egg, and then either dies or gets killed, I don't remember which.

Throughout the Novel itself:

There is an Evil Empire(Gee imagine that) being led I believe by an Evil Sorcer(Again Gee Imagine) who is trying to hatch the egg as he is the only one who knows what it is, or is one of very few who knows what it is.

Phalanx is a new concept to the Military force that is from this kingdom. Interesting that this was such a big deal in the book.

Yes I know not much to go on, I wish I could remember more. I loved the book and had gone back to the library a few times after reading it trying to find it again so that I could keep tabs on the author like I do with R.E.F. but alas it disappeared after my first reading of it.

If anyone has any idea of what novel this is I would be so appreciative I may even give you a cookie, or a cake.

Sounds kind of like Eragon. But I doubt that's it.

I dunno I didn't think that it was either but then I don't know the story seemed familiar but then I didn't get to read/re-read that book, I really need to get my hands on that again cause if it is I really need to get my hands on Eldest...

I did a quick google search and came up with The Last Dragon by Silvana de Mari. It seems to be a book geared toward preteen readers, but you didn't mention your age, so this may be it. I've never heard of it before. Good luck.

No Last Dragon wasn't it, I went through that one at the book store about a year ago, thinking it may be it.... but I think not sure but I think that this book was a 1999-2000 new release
