Favorite method: Ganker ganking!
How it works: Stealth and follow somebody around (usually at TM) until the try to gank someone. Once they start, Garrote-Vanish-Cheapshot-SSx3-Eviscerate. Usually instant death. If not, activate Sprint and charge after them while they try to run away and dodge any totems/traps they put down. Once they're at low health pull out the bow/gun/crossbow and down them from range.
Favorite example: I ganked a 33 Hunter with my 29 Rogue becuase he tried to gank another player, so AFTER his pet ran in I did exactly the above method with the addition of Evasion so the pet couldn't hit me.

I think you guys are confused with the meaning of ganking.
In most MMOs, ganking is where you have 3-4 on one player and just wipe out people with the 4v1 tactic, or similar.

Just because we dont play nice and fear, seduce and burn everyone doesnt mean 5 on 1 is fair....4 on one is fair....unless they're rogues and warriors...then i r screwed

That is why, like any good spellcaster, you need a really big guy to follow you around and menace things. Although that wouldn't help with the whole rogue thing.

i usually get D/Cd on my shaman when a rogue hits me with Cheap Shot while i'm running. a GM told me it's a latency issue, but i think she's stupid.
Usually 'ganking' against my shaman is 2 hunters, 2 rogues, or several paladins that all feel the need to introduce my face to the under-side of a grave.

Maybe we all have to define our versions of ganking.
What Ganking means to me
Taking my 29 horde undead rogue into westfall, killing the defias traitor a few times on some night elves (I hate them with a bloody passion and I'll only quest kill if they're involved in any way. Maybe I'm racist xD) and then making my way up to northshire, climbing the mountain to avoid the 65 guards and going crazy on the flagged lvl 1-5's there in abundance. It's funny because they're stupid! ^.^

See, I thought ganking was five on one. What your doing is just noob-killing. That's fine cause it builds character. They'll grow into thoughtful, deep roleplayers, and will contribute to the World... of Warcraft.
Anyone ever read the CAD definitions of 'noobs' and 'newbs'? It's very informative.

I kill both and /cackle at their corpses.
ALSO: At the new Druid Fair thing (never can remember the name) I have officially killed seven people, or two people if you don't count killing the same mage six times.
EDIT: In my defense, the mage was standing by a guard and /mock-ing me, so I killed him in the face and hit the vanish key faster than a sombrero can conceal a Mexican.

I was always under the impression ganking is when the fight is unfair for one reason or another, be it 5v1, killing low levels or attacking someone fighting mobs.

I would call Ganking any really unfair fight.
...and it's amazingly fun to 'gank' people who are fighting mobs. Especially when i can sneak up behind a paladin fighting three things, unleash cheap shot, two sinister strikes (assuming one crits and gives me 2 points) then swing an evisc with Cold Blood, he's totally pweened =P Nothing makes me feel warmer inside than ruining some days.
Blood Elf paladins are the only paladins i like, because they buff me and heal me. Human/Dwarf/Draenei paladins can take a swift train to hell, stopping only long enough to see me give them the finger =)

Yeah no, on WoW ganking definately refers to ambushing someone/attacking and killing someone while they're fighting mobs/etc. Which is why rogues and kitty druids tend to be the best at ganking.
My favorite tactic requires a two-man team: a really good high level, and a medium to low-range thing that can escape well ( druid, mage, etc ). THEN, I like to go to Hillsbrad and taunt people in Southshore/Alliance AV zone-in away from the guards and slaughter them, over and over. For some reason they can't STAND to see a level 30 druid, even when they can see a level 60 shaman/whatever standing RIGHT NEXT TO THEM. And then they die.
Also, when I get ganked, I like to lead people into the guards in new and unusual ways. People are usually stupid enough to follow me into them, every time... Then roots and /rofl as they get raped.

There was this one time... i was sooo going to gank a Warlock that was 3 levels higher than me... he was currently fighting a 42 raptor * he was 45, i was 42* and he had almost no mana and only about half health, so, Swiftly I attacked! silence, fear, dots, etc. I ended up dying... I hate warlocks...

Dots and fear.
Wait till you see a curse of doom and chain fear. That sucks.

It's a nice little trick to use on a caster if a stunlock is breaking. It also does wonders at removing those pesky DoTs allowing for a vanish.

I feel your pain. I play a 70 Resto shaman, as in all of my talent points (except for 5) are in Resto. Just be happy that you have a decent amount in Discipline

But anyways, as a Resto shaman I can still take on 5ish people, since my Earth Shield heals for more than they hit

Well folks, I finally got around to it--fraps of me ganking the hell out of some alliance with a bugged spell. (Basically, when I cast the spell on the target, all the guards/mobs for like a 50yard radius agro to the target, not to me--durability death!)

Well, I don't gank unless I'm extremely bored, but I needed to get back at a certain shaman that surprised me, killed me, and stole my rich adamantite vein. AAGRAJKFHASKLD. Anyways, he started grinding on some fire elementals for the motes since they seem to go so hot on the auction house, back to the subject. I jumped on him, cheap shot, blah blah, the whole stunlock routine, but instead of finishing him off with an eviscerate I just backed off a little bit and waited for him to start healing himself. This was quickly interrupted with deadly throw spam.
Relentless Strikes kept proccing and I just kept lobbing deadly throw after deadly throw interrupting all his heals

It was funny at the time.
