Mr. J Blacc
May 7 2008, 07:40 AM
Ok, I admit I made them myself, like them?
By the way Mantalord why do WoW references make you mad if part of the comic is a reference to WoW? (and as many times said, many other sources). Why doesn't anyone get mad when someone makes a reference to any given other fantasy universe?

Because no one makes them... It is only WoW fans who instantly go "Cool! A WoW based comic! I must make WoW-Fan-Videos and items." as soon as they see this comic. While the rest of us shut up and just laugh at the many references.
And unless you have guessed it, I am personally against WoW References, like many other people around here are.

Wrong! It is inpired by every other MMORPGs aswell. WoW is just the most know and popular with the most irritating and tiresome fanbase around.

This may be true, but it is the heaviest influence of all in this comic. (( really take a look at things ...))
such replies as above kinda irk me when one doesnt take in everything...
MrEasterband
May 7 2008, 10:41 AM
Heaviest influence? Perhaps most notable. But not heaviest (ever heard of D&D? Even WoW is influenced by that). One could never imagine how many influences there are. But one of them is WoW. And what many people around here, including me, is annoyed by is people who insist on that LFG is a pure WoW comic. 'Nuff said.
Now go on a talk about your WoW-Fan made weapons, I don't care.
Rip Van Ishmael
May 7 2008, 12:00 PM
Not to mention the huge amount Sword of Truth refs. Richard being named Richard. The Sisters. The Sword of Truth itself. Etc. People just don't talk about it as much because not everybody reads it.
Mr. J Blacc
May 7 2008, 12:37 PM
Ok, then in that case I think a small bit of apolagizing is required... here comes: sorry!
Off course I didn't mean to stuff this wow reference up anyones nose, I simply made it for those that are fans of both LFG and the warcraft universe. And as 'MrEasterband' said there are a lot of those around here. So I suggest, if you don't like this reference, for you to please not post in this topic anymore saying things of the likes of: 'how could you do this, stop making these wow references', your point is quite clear allready and it's not what this topic is about.
This topic is about, yes indeed, a WoW reference, which I think... hope... some people think is funny, that's all.
so... Watcha think?
PS, Rip van Ishmaels post above made me quite curious about these other references, I'll go take a look those

A complete list of direct WoW references in LFG:
-The loading screen in
Strip 36.
-The Imp's last words in
Strip 109.
-Arguably Cale's attire in the early strips.
Three of 'em. Whoah, this must be based on WoW.
------------------------------------------------------
MantaLord, the next time someone makes a thread about the DnD stats of the LFG group, I expect you to be there crying: "THIS DOES NOT TAKE PLACE IN D&D!!!!!! ARGH!"
Mr. J Blacc
May 7 2008, 01:38 PM
Ok, we'll play it this way
If anyone can point out where I have said this comic is
based on wow then do this now, if not, you shall be forever silent (or at least stay on topic mkay?)

I daresay that that list isn't complete, but that's not really important.
As Mr. J Blacc just said, no one here is claiming the comic is based solely on wow.
And Mr. Easterband, I was in no way "Wrong!". Having influences from other MMORPGs (and other numerous other fantasy settings, which you failed to mention) does not suddenly make the wow influence invalid. And yes, that influence is here and readily apparent. Sohmer's openly admitted as much, even.

I'm with this guy. You can't just go back further and further, saying that the intermediary influences are made redundant by those preceeding it; if we were to do that, eventually we'd end up agreeing that this comic, and all others, are based solely on the the first random wall-scribblings of the first cave-men.
Not that I'm pro WoW references. In my opinion, they're really just not
that
funny.

Yea, so I think its time to grow up. Theres two
legit trains of thought, either:
1. You think LFG is a complete original entity, and noone should ever make any refrences to outside sources/inspiration.
or
2. You believe that LFG has multiple sources of inspiration, and each one can be discussed in their own context.
Seriously though, how infantile is it to go "Omg I love Lars for the DnD refrence!" then in another thread say "Shuttup, Wow =/= LFG, lrn2read".

Actually...it's -kinda- hard to make a webcomic
with NO outside-source reference.Zilch nada zip.
There's bound to be some.
But It's obvious that LFG's clearly not WOW.Sure,
there's bits of reference here and there, but that
doesn't imply that LFG took place in the WOW world.

Wow, cool down. o.o No one here EVER implied that the comic was WoW, he just made some joke items for WoW that correspond to joke weapons in the comic. We've done this before, and nobody raised a bunch of crap about it.
The only thing I have a problem with is when someone comes in saying "Well Benny is OBVIOUSLY a troll because this is WoW" or "Richard should not be using Frost". Nobody said that here, though, and you've all just let this spiral into a storm of flying shit.
Relax. Take a deep breath. Go read a book.
I recommend The Stranger, by Camus. Not enough people read that book.
