Well I have been at work for about 5 hours, And i have already had at least 10 customers that made me want to Strike them down.
I love the job, mostly because of the other people i work with, but I think I am going to quit soon.
I have been working in retail for 8 of my 22 years ranging from jobs at a convenience store to working at the big box stores.
Honestly just getting real sick of people...
How about you people? How do you fell about your job?

I don't work. I don't hate it either when I have to do work. It gets me money (unless I'm doing it for free. Then I am just glad that it is done and done properly)

Work sucks! thats it end of story! The trick is to get enough money generating assets that you now almost never work. thats what i do, and its going pretty good so far...

Love my work! and am frustrated daily... Currently my work involves corrupting 8 year olds. I make them read word problems, follow directions, and tell them that milk is good for their bodies. I pull pony-tales, stomp on toes and steal shoes from kids on the swings as recess.
All of it is fun, but I don't like having to "be mean" with the class, when they are not listening. and I don't like the feeling of them NOT learning as I show the exactly how to do number 3, and as I move on to number four a hand goes up, "I don't get number 3!?"

I realized what you meant. But work is work, whether or not you are getting paid for it. Ever heard of being a volunteer?
Nesstar
Mar 7 2008, 12:32 AM
That is why i described the type of work I was talking about, Volunteer work is great, hell i had to do 40 hours of it to graduate which dpes kinda defeat the purpose of volunteer*
At least when you are voluteering you can say " You know what screw this i dont need to be here." When volunteering the atmosphere is a little more positive, and is usually temporary, you dont have to wake up everyday thinking great back to work i go.

I like my work well enough. I work for a company that makes housings for cameras so they can go underwater. I used to really love it. I worked in a room with 2 people that became good friends. The job, while having a fair number of monotonous tasks, was interesting enough to keep my attention. Plus I was starting to be trained to do some of the more managerial tasks.
Then 2 things happened. One, a new guy came and crapped on everything. He couldn't get along with the guy he shared a room with, so I had to be yanked from the room I enjoyed being in and sent to a room that is not anywhere near as entertaining. The guy in it (not the new guy) is nice enough, we get along, but he's just not someone I can really become a good friend with like I did in the other room. The new guy got sent to where I used to be seated. So in a way he gets rewarded for behaving badly.
The 2nd, the owner died and left the company to his daughter. Now there's all kinds of changes going on that I absolutely hate.
So, I used to love my job...but nowadays, I'm seriously considering looking for another job. Change sucks

I sell books. God I love my job. Just wish that I could stock the store entirely the way I wanted it, instead of following company policies (I KNOW WHAT MY CUSTOMERS WANT MORE THAN SOME BIGWIG IN AN OFFICE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY!!!! It's not fair)
Although the biggest problem apart from pain in the arse customers happens to be I sell books to myself far too often. Waaay too many books... as in thousands. It's like putting an alcoholic in charge of test-tasting at a brewery. Don't love it this week though, the boss is on holidays, so that makes me the boss and that means six working days..... argh. Me no likey.

The only iffy part about that is that if I was working from home, I might wne up getting distracted and not working as hard as I should!

Part time commercial construction (home additions and renovations) as a helper to the people who know what they're doing.
get paid to work out, learn a useful skill, my co-workers and boss are cool, you see a result to your efforts, it's more than minimum wage.

I actually like my job.
Tried retail. Hated dealing with people.
Tried customer service. That was the same as retail with one thousand times the stress. Hate dealing with people even more than before.
Tried working as a palletizer (official sounding title for someone who stacks stuff on pallets) in an ice cream warehouse. Threw out my back trying to pick up about 60 pounds' worth of ice cream while twisting at the waist. Plus it was fucking cold in there, anywhere from -20 F to -80 F. You could feel ice forming on your eyeballs if you stood in the coldest part of the freezer.
Now I do production work, and I love it. I hate dealing with people but don't mind repetitive tasks. You work fast and have to be well trained to keep up, but once you have the pattern down pat and have been what they call "work hardened", you can tune out and daydream all damn day while your hands follow the motions of work. It pays pretty well too, since they have a hard time finding people who can stand the repetition and fast pace.
My coworkers are nuts too. That helps.
A few of them had a conversation about stalkers a couple of days ago:
Team Leader (a guy): I had a stalker once.
Co-worker 1 (teasing him): Yeah, what was his name?
TL: It was him (points to another nearby co-worker who was listening in, and lives near the TL). Yeah, I can't get rid of him. He even bought a house near mine. He follows me to work, he follows me home, I can't get rid of him.....(TL gives an exaggerated sigh)
Your job can suck big hairy sweaty donkey balls, but if you have positive people around you it makes all the difference.

Sadly, the opposite is also true. A great job can be ruined if co-workers are jerks and morons.

Ain't that the truth?
I have a paper route, which pays 10 cents a newspaper. Somehow it works out to about $4 a week. (I only deliver once weekly.)
This summer I'm working at my mom's pet supply store. It's in a small part of town, where there aren't too many customers, depending on what day it is, and the time. So half the time I'll be surfing the interwebs and getting paid for it. And there are kittens there almost all the time. And I'm getting something like $10 dollars an hour. I don't see too many cons, except, you know, dealing with people.

You eventually (and hopefully) work your way up to something you enjoy that provides a decent living.
I lived in Kentucky for years and couldn't find anything but part-time, minimum wage jobs. Got tired of the dead-end crap, moved to Indiana, and it's been uphill ever since.

I'm an intern as a 7th and 8th grade teacher assistant. Pretty much everytime they piss me off I reply with "I can read your mind..." "my first name is 'Mr' and don't you forget it," or my favorite one "I didn't realize that I had to teach common sense to you kids, I thought that was the job of the kindergarden teacher..."
Let's just say teaching is very interesting, especially when I'm a high school senior... How dumb the newer generation are becoming, they have not learned about the use of PHONICS....

cashier at a small town grocery store. im not much of a people person, but since its small i get to know everyone and kinda like talking to them (and making silent death wishes about the jerks that come in). but someone who sits at a computer all day, like me, does get some leg pains fgrom standing around for six to eight hours in a row.
all in all, im not too happy with this whole "have to work" deal. i wish i could get paid to just sleep (aha! a bed tester!)

I have had at least a part time job ever snce I was 14, currently I have two jobs:
I am a radio DJ, the program is on thursdays from 4:00 - 6:30, I play music in spanish for a local station, mostly SKA and different styles of Rock.
I also work as a salesman/clerk at a bookstore, Monday-Wednseday and Friday from 2:00 - 8:30, It's a pretty sweet deal, especially since mostof the people who come in allready know what they want so I don't have to pitch too much. (also I get to use my laptop when there are no customers!!).
So I think I have a pretty awesome thing going.

I love my job, I fix and stock carts and machines for the Anesthesia docs, I also deal with new equipment and set up demos for new products related to Anesthesia. Its a fun job! but I hate the people I work with, they have this counter productive mindset. Instead of doing whats best for the department and the patient and they are always going to do what makes them look the best. Which almost always is to make others look bad, and as is with most places of work the hardworking honest ones such as myself always get the most flak from these anti work cannons.
Also the managment plays favorites and its always these same people who bring the department down.
For example when ever I want to take a day off..I have to get someone to cover me, no big deal but one of my cohorts has this whole week off..no coverage. So I now have to work a 13 hour shift today..and a 16 hour one tommorow. All I wanted was one day off to go see a show in seattle...nope! no covarage...really pisses me off.

The worst part of it is there is no such thing as a "minor" surgery, ive watched people die after simple appendix removals. Its sad when people who have 6 years more experance then me..call me at home asking how to do something. Im not saying im Mr. perfect and I know there are people out that work harder then me but I try my very best because there are just some things you can't half ass.

i worked in retail and customer service since i was 16 - in short i hated it, hated people, hated life
a year and a half ago i got my current job
now i work as an assistant for a financial planner. i rarely have to deal with people, and when i do they are nice. my boss likes to travel and golf so i am not usually all that busy. this means i get paid to just be here and do nothing. my boss has been absolutely awesome. i am the same age as his daughter, and he treats me like i am another daughter. his partner is in his 70s and treats me like a granddaughter. this has been great since my family isnt nearby.
the girls in the office arent problems either. i think it is because technically we arent co-workers. we each work for separate agents so no one is the superior of anyone else. keeps everyone on an equal footing.
all in all, i love my job and i dont plan on quitting it any time soon. eventually i think i will go on to be a financial planner myself. my boss has already paid for me to get my life & health insurance license and i know he would pay for me to get my securities certification.
the way i look at it is i am finally getting my payback for the years of hell that i worked before.

I love my job, I'm a Flagger I get to be outside all day and just stand around and see all the people who have cheap and expensive cars. The only thing that sucks is somtime the people don't see me in the road and almost hit me. I mean sure it's hard to see somone in the road in brade daylight wearing bright orange vest and hard hat and I big bright sign that has stop/slow on it.
