Actually, keeping ears was done in the past, I think. I'm sure more than one novel or game has used it as a way of keeping track of kills. D'Haran soldiers do that in SoT too.

The battlemages were already casting (unless thats just a glow on their weapons?) so maybe they were like the shamans with magic-dehancing abilitys.

Well that was bound to happen. Either this or legarians forcing Krunch and Richard to surrender by holding the others hostages, which is too emo. Because breezing through encounters, especially as detailed as this one, is not fun.

Battlemages aren't supposed to be THAT powerfull. They suck at hand-to-hand combat, and their spells only enhance their melée skills. They must be GOD-moding... Hax all the way.

"Oblivion awaits" is one of the most epic LFG lines yet. Simple, clean, menacing. That's some good writing.

What's all this about battlemages being weak? To me, the term "battlemage" means a warrior specialized in magic combat rather than blades or bows. Skilled battlemages could well be very dangerous, and Richard came up against at least five of them. There's a goodly chance that those five mages have mastered five different branches of combat magic, and they work as a team. Quite badass, I do say.

Also, collecting the ears of the victims! Just like the Peloi in "The Elenium".

****, love the throw-back to Diablo 2 and the ears. Guess no one caught that - this is loosely based off an MMORPG after all and D2 was one of the first. Wonderful art on Richard and good humor. I'm someone dissatisfied with the idea that a few battlemages could capture Him though. This is definitely a page that makes me want to read more, NOW. Can we get a panel say, tomorrow?

Last point ... unless those chains on Richard are magic proof the group will have no trouble getting out of there ... I mean seriously Richard has guided laser beam magic ... makes for easy jail breaking

i agree with Rip, kind of... and Dulera. it kind of makes sense for this to be aprt of the plan. Richard is just too badass to be caught by a bunch of battlemages, and Richard+Krunch kind of seems like an unstoppable force that i dont think anyone would want to reckon with.

and Cale may not be the brightest crayon in the box sometimes, but im pretty sure he can count. the way it looks he would have made a gross underestimation. and what better way to ambush the enemy then from insdie their own fort after youve been captured? they would never expect that.

i would hate to be Cale in that last panel though... stuck in the middle with everyone glaring at him.

I believe that the group was expected and the base was a trap. Thanks to the "lovely" Captain who is playing her own game.

Personally, I'd rather a t-shirt of the group together in the final panel. Dick on a stick's comment on the ambiance, and everyone's reaction was priceless.

Let's not forget though, Cale was not the only one assigned to scouting. Pella apparently can't count either.

Richard tends to get pissed when something goes wrong for him, yet i smell no anger pheremones

I'm torn in thinking that Pinky is quite smart and knows what he is doing, he's shown flashes of doing what must be done, and being smart in doing it, (killing the child, organising the village to fight the phares) and thinking that sometimes he rushes in headlong without thinking and gets caught for it. It'll be interesting to see what happens and what his master plan really is.

I can't see Richard being caught so easily, but there has been times when he's been caught unawares (The shamans blocking his magic, for one), but we all know how powerful and how indestructible he really is. (Especially when he caught Pella's axe square in the head, his spine melted out...

I believe the only thing that saved them from death was them being main characters. If I was in charge of that place all their heads would severed and tossed on on pikes, except for richard would of been reduced to dust, locked in 14 chests in bigger chests in forts and scattered across the realm and carry the ashes of his head with me until I die. I am sure anyone else would take similar measures.

The only logical reason they are not all dead now is the story would end if they all died.

I am glad Richard got owned for once. Think about it. If he was allowed to remain flawlessly badass and unbeatable, we would have absolutely no contrast and the gang might as well have been walking around with an Elder God or something in tow. Being captured shows that Richard is a true character rather than a useful plot device and that he, while able to perform outstanding acts of magic and evil, is still vulnerable. This page has but added to his badassity as a character of LFG.
