Full Version: Missing from the Graphic Novel

So it appears that there is at least one part of the comic that is missing from the graphic novel. I am referring to page 76, as listed in the archive, where the group first meets Pella. In the online version after the General of the Kethenican Home Guard orders the ranks "be cleaned", there is a bit where a maid runs past crying war, while the group thinks of how to gain entry to a room, decide to smash it open, revealing Pella within. In the Graphic Novel it skips from the cleansing of the Home Guard to Cale beginning to make introductions. I assume this is because the page in the archive was an extended extra long one, but I'm curious as to why it didn't get put into the comic as its own page, if that were the case. I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this, or found other "left out bits".
Rip Van Ishmael
.....How can you even have that already??
AaronRogers
It showed up at my house this morning, I didn't question it.
Rip Van Ishmael
...I hate you. -.-
AaronRogers
And I'm OK with that. tongue.gif
Kerrah
Are you sure the rest of the strip isn't simply on the other side of the page? The extra-long episode in issue one was cut into two and put on two pages at least.

I have the hardcover sitting in front of me right now, and I can confirm that this little part of the comic is indeed missing.

Makes me sad =[

Edit: And yeah, I received it this morning as well. Living in the same province that the item comes from speeds up things considerably smile.gif

Living on the other side of the continent, however....*waits with the utmost impatience*
Kerrah
And I'm on a completely different continent!

Anyways, kind of sad that they made such a blunder.
sohmer
Yes indeed, that page is missing.

The reason it's not there is actually because we were not allowed to use the Queen Song in the hardcover. It's a long story, but that's the gist of it.
AaronRogers
Wow, that sucks. Thanks for clearing it up though.

Aren't you on the sun?
Grym
Duh. The sun has continents, didn't you hear? Big scientific discovery.

..I want my graphic novel sad.gif

Aren't you on the sun?

I had my mailing address changed to a location a bit closer to cut the postage fees. That and postal service people kept getting incinerated all over my stuff.

No chance you could provide a printable version of that page of the dimensions of the book so people can glue it over that page?

Then it would go over the next page.

I was thinking having it over the page that it was edited out of.

Well then it goes over the Homeguard action.
Regel
Put tape on one side so you can flip it and you ca still read the comic beneath it?
carcer
no chance the page could be resized to fit both then? I've edited several encyclopedias at school using this method you can do just about anything to the page as long as it fits right.

It's not a size issue, it's apparently a legality issue.
Seems the artist isn't allowed to publish any Queen material in the book. Probably the recording company had a shitfit and wanted to be paid a ridiculous amount for the use of the lyrics. The entire music industry seems full of assholes these days.

carcer
True enough, but the seller isn't liable if people edit it after purchase, if a fan offers a print out and instructions on how to properly put in the pages there is nothing that can be done about it I think.
Devin Austra
Actually, if the people in charge allow someone to offer the page for download on the forums (or anywhere else on this site), they could be held liable. Something like being the getaway driver for a bank robber - you didn't rob the bank but you helped someone else do the deed. It's not something they can pretend they didn't see.

Actual legal action wouldn't be likely, but it's possible. The folks who run this site aren't responsible for what others post, but they still have a duty to make a reasonable effort to keep illegal activities off the site. Having been a moderator on a large gaming site for years, I've seen forum users try just about everything, and trust me, trying to bend the rules to suit your purpose or otherwise justify what you're doing just doesn't work.

That being said, yes, someone could offer the page for download and printing, but likely they wouldn't be allowed to advertise it here.

Shouldn't Queen stuff be free grabs for anyone by now? Freddy's been dead for a while, no matter what Cromartie High has to say about it.

But on to more pressing concerns.

Where's my copy???
Kerrah
They're going to dump the money that band makes nowadays into Freddy's grave.
Rip Van Ishmael
After cremating it and mixing it with the remnants of his shed chest hair they collected over the years, of course.

I thought the order form said 2-3 day delivery, but I still have no book.

WANT.
Aeriosa
dont feel too bad, Rip. if yours is late for the 2-3 day, mine will be even later. i got the 10-14 day i think, cuz it was cheaper. well, i think dad ordered it that way >.>

then again, i live pretty close to canada, so mine might be here on time.

Copyright issues? sad.gif No fair!
Rip Van Ishmael
If I remember correctly that 2-3 day thing was surprisingly cheap, so I went ahead and got it.

Nope, Queen songs aren't going to enter the public domain for quite some time. Because the copyright term in the United States for a single author is life + 70 years and because Freddie Mercury died in 1991, the songs he has sole authorship of will not hit the public domain until 2061. Any songs he co-wrote with other members of the band aren't going to hit the public domain until long after that.

As much as I am a fan of copyright law, it kind of sucks when something like this has to be pulled. Even if it were a winnable case in court, you still don't want to have to pay the money to go to court to fight it out. It's a shame since I really enjoyed that panel.
bhunji42
I wonder why they didn't just make something new up and replace all the bubbles with Queen in them with different words, in order to include the page...
CanadianWonder
That thing about freddie being dead, CopyRight Laws state that any written or whatever stuff is owned by the person 70 years after they are dead, then it's public.
carcer
Which is terrible. The public is unworthy! You know what you do when you get your sticky hands all over things written with integrity, write your own scripts you money grubbing bastards!
MantaLord
I think it was purposely left out for space issues... because the plot still flows seamlessly as Pella only introduces herself later in the comic.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw the "Copyright issues" posts...

It's a shame because that was one of maybe three panels featuring Pella doing something productive.
Hatman
quit the Pella bashing....

DAMN YOU QUEEN! damn you and your legality!
Rip Van Ishmael
But it's true.

What about the other songs used?

Is Harry Chapin still alive? If not, I'm sure Guns'n'Roses are still usin it.

Maybe the authors got permission from the owners of the other lyrics they used?

Who knows.

The Shadow?
AaronRogers
Perhaps Chuck Norris? I'm no expert on Chuck, but from what I've heard he knows far more than any mortal man.
Rip Van Ishmael
Chuck Norris is no more than a cheesy, B-grade actor. Internet gave him the status he claims now, not any real skills. Fuck Chuck Norris.

People people, there's a reasonable solution to this problem:
Go to the comic.
Turn on your printer.
Print out the comic.
Cut it to fit.
Put in book
????
PROFIT!

And use photo paper with an inkjet.
I get very nice quality pictures from mine.
It'd probably take half the ink in the cartridges though.
~ replaced both ink carts last week and is pissed at the price of that stuff ~
You'd think it was liquid gold.

I came home yesterday to a nice surprise, my very on copy of the hardcover book. After opening it up, and starting reading, I decided to look for the signatures, but there weren't any. I was wondering where would they be, I looks from cover to cover, and nothing. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks

P.S. I did a search for anything related to the signature and couldn't find one.
Rip Van Ishmael
They were on the first blank black page, the kinda fuzzy ones that start and end the book.

Sohmers signature looked suspiciously like half a dozen slanted vertical lines....

*pets Lars'* I can feel the power....it feels goood.....
