Lately I've been thinking of getting into an mmo, i've never actually played a mmo ( i know EVERYONE plays an mmo but i never really had the time or the intrest). but lately i've had the urge to try one and so like any snap decision maker i decided that i would buy guild wars. but before i do i was wondering if there's anyone on this site to plays, and if there is, whats the game like and is it worth my time.

if there are any WoW fanboys who feel like posting something along the lines of :
"Guild wars sucks.WOW RULES!!!!YEAH!!! I NOOB I NO KNOW HOW TO HAVE AN OPEN MIND OR AT THE VERY LEAST A SHUT MOUTH"

please...don't. and no i don't want to play WoW. i really don't feel like paying monthly fees just so i can play casually.
so i if there are guild wars players out there, i'ld like to hear your opinion. cause i don't want to waste 40 bucks on a game that sucks, and i really don't want my first real foray into the mmo world to be ruined.

I play it from time to time, it's pretty fun but if you're only playing once campaign it gets repetitive after a while. I mostly keep it as a 'fall-back' when I get tired of all my other games. I wouldn't suggest getting Prophecies as your first campaign, it takes a long, long time to level in it. The quest reward experience is beyond horrible to a degree that's frightening. Factions has the best experience bonus from finishing quests, you can get pretty high quickly in it. Nightfall is a comfortable middle, not tons of experience, but not next-to-nothing either. Of course if you get Factions, you'd get used to the high experience and wonder why it's taking you so long to level.

Hope that helps.

Edit to include: I would suggest getting all of the campaigns eventually, they all have really good storylines. Just don't expect to get anywhere fast (level-wise) on a Prophecies character.

yeah thanks that helps a lot. i was just intending to get into it intensely for a couple of weeks and then have it as a game that i could play when i get bored or am just looking for some fun with friends.

i really don't mind long leveling times i used to play a lot of rpgs and d&d when i was younger i really don't mind slow leveling
what i do like though is options in setting up your character and a great story.
in fact what attracted to me to guild wars is that there a great story, but you can also jump straight into a PvP battle.

The Fork of Truth
I play WoW, but I will not say anything about Guild Wars, having not played it. I don't, for the moment, want to start paying Guild Wars, however, but I might in future.
