I just went camping and I forgot how fun it was since I haven't gone in the past couple of months.
here are some questions for your mind (you can answer more than one for the questions):
1. Who would you think is the best to go camping with?
2. Top three things you would do on the camp-out.
3. Where you would sleep during the night?
4. What would you bring to eat on the camp out?
5. what type of weather would you camp in?
Here are mine:
1. My best friends or my dad
2. Climbing trees, Ultimate Frisbee, Man Hunt/Capture the Flag
3. Under the stars next to the campfire or not at all
4. Steak and potatoes with cheese
5. Anything but Rainy or super hot
You can also just talk about camping in general if you want to.

Here in florida it barely got below 60 F. And people were acting like they were going to freeze to death. I wasn't born here so I'm used to temps like 35 F

Noob, In Newfields we had -15 with the wind chill making it nearly -40.
Even here the wind chill regularly drops it to -20.
It's fucking cold out there in the winter!
As to Grym's #6 I have to go with West Virginia.

I wasn't adding in windchill. Especially when you are biking downhilll at 20+ mph at 8am in the morning.

Why the fuck are you riding a bike when it's that cold out? Winter is to be spent under a blanket by the fire with cocoa and a hot redhead.

And there aren't any hot redheads at my school.

True TLD, but even crawfish can't compare to fresh trout. especially if it in the fire not 15 minutes after its out of the water (we wrap them in foil packs with a touch of butter and a slice of lemon)

Poor Grimy, redheads are always and will always be the best.
@Neo: I don't really like trout, but have you had fresh marlin?
Grym
Nov 17 2007, 07:29 PM
That is true.
And food-wise, the only fish I can stand to eat is canned tuna. I love canned tuna.(It's the mercury that gives it the flavor)

I used to go deep-sea fishing. I've caught mahi, seabass, and mackerel, also been on the same boat as a guy who caught a record-breaking marlin for that company.

I'm opposed to the idea of camping.
We go through thousands of years of evolution in our culture and technology. People die to protect the idea of cities. All our human achievements culminate to the glory we have at our fingertips and you throw it all in their faces to sleep outside.
It makes me sick to my ass.
Grym
Nov 17 2007, 08:27 PM
judging from that description, taking something someone's done and throwing it back into their face with a laugh sounds like something you'd enjoy.

No, but the dwarf brings up a good point.
How many of you consider the damage they do to dwarven halls? Of course not. You're all too busy camping to think about anyone else.
Grym
Nov 17 2007, 09:07 PM
Wouldn't dwarves live in mountains? And aren't trees fairly sparse in higher elevation mountains?
The silly dwarves should line their halls with stone.
Verbose
Nov 17 2007, 09:11 PM
Did you just mention they're in a mountain? They're not building the shit, they're cutting rooms out of it. They remove stone, they don't put it in.
And I lived up a mountain covered in trees for about three years - making it my longest residence by far.
It's only the good ones that don't have any trees.

1. Family and close friends
2. radio (gotta listen to the classic rock!), dogs, and booze (or soda works too I guess)
3. If the weather is warm/clear enough, outside under the stars.
4. Steak for dinner, and pancake mix for breakfast. Best meals I've ever had were when I was camping.
5. Preferably warm weather, around June or July. August is good, too, if we camp near a river. But I'm not too picky, I've been known to go camping in the rainy weather of April and May.
6. I love camping pretty much anywhere in Washington, but I prefer the western side of the Cascades, since there's more nice wooded areas. Love the piney-fresh smell.
As for the fresh fish debate, fresh halibut is to die for. I went camping in Uculet Canada with my uncle and aunt, and we went fishing. We mostly caught rock fish, but my uncle caught the biggest halibut I've seen (which I haven't seen that many still intact and not on my dinner plate). Cooked it up that night, it was heavenly.

Surprised nobody has said this yet, but......
It's a legitimate strategy.
Having been in the field way too many times..... camping suxors. There are bugs. And it seems that no matter what season it is, and what the weather people have stated, there is *ALWAYS* rain. Bugs and rain make camping miserable. Plus, depending on how long you stay out away from civilization, when you finally come back, the aroma of nasty-ass is everywhere, in your hair, in your clothes, on your skin, on the people who stand way too close to you, on your gear...... EVERYWHERE!

I get used to it. Florida in wintertime is about the best time to camp. Most flying bugs are gone. Ants are a big problem though. But you can always torch 'em

And showers are for getting rid of the smell. I also leave all my gear outside of my house when I get back. 3 days later the smell is almost all gone.
