I hit the glass studio for the first time in probably close to six months. I really missed that place.

All these pictures were taken at extreme closeups (the camera was about three inches away) in order to show the detail. They are much smaller than they look in these images. The largest bead I made, the black one with the big blue dots in this image, is only 3/4 inch in diameter. The really tiny ones in this image are only about a quarter of an inch across.
The pictures could have been better, but I'm still getting used to my digital camera, and the closeup setting is very picky to focus.

These three links are the beads I made last year in the first class I took. Many are lopsided, but some came out very nicely.

These are the beads I did last weekend. Most of them are "raked heart" beads; all are made with "soft" glass, which melts more easily than borosilicate glass and has more available colors. The two larger black ones have red hearts on them, but they didn't show up well.

Various hemp bracelets and chokers I made. The first and third bracelets were made from store-bought kits. I really just wanted the instructions for the bracelets, so I can make some with my own beads later.
The second and fourth are from patterns I found in a book, made with beads from my first class.

Here's a swan I made on top of a glass rod. Keep in mind, it's only 1-1/8 inches tall. It just looks huge because of the closeup.

Also did another teddy bear. He's one and a half inches tall. Third try; I wasn't happy with the first two. I'm giving this one to my aunt, who's a teddy bear fanatic.

I also made a second snowman, which is better than my first, but I'm still not entirely happy with it. I'd like to get more practice and do these figurines in colored glass.

wow that's some good shit right here. I wish I could do that...

Okay. I have other works, but I'm too lazy to get them and upload them and... Yeah. Anyway.
I'm not sure if I've actually finished any of these yet. I have a short attention span.
And these all have terrible lighting because my camera sucks.
Rant end.

I have much more at http://darthadolf.deviantart.com

this is a painting, actually.

Doofin around in painter. This is low rez, only 150px so I couldn't get to tight with detail. Not really finished, but meh. Hench it's title of "EH"

Had fun at the glass studio again.

My first attempt at a simple beginner's project: Pendants with mushrooms in them. I made over a dozen; these four came out the best. I didn't even bother putting loops on the really, really crappy ones, I just turned them into marbles. No matter how bad it looks, kids will love it if I turn it into a marble.

Made a poem to go with it, but it's a little long to put in here.

I started to draw again...

Sorry for the blurry pic, my dad's camera is getting old.

As finish as I will be I guess...

Also, I hate drawing black shirts... >_<

I'ma start just linking, before DeviantArt decides it hates me... <.< And I don't particularly feeling like uploading everything twice... So yeah, here's some of what I've been doing...

Elf dude An updated version from the elf dude I'd posted before, now in the process of being colored. I needa do something to make those blasted Wood Elves cooler...
Moon Elf Like these guys. The Moon Elves are actually kinda cool, despite being racist. Like the elf dude, they're for my role play site. By the way, the image looks like crap unless you see the full view. Stupid transparency weirdness...
Knife chick sketch Now, these are the Elves I really like of the bunch, the Sand Elves... though, this particular image doesn't show much. It's very in-progress. Still proud... Yay for crazy desert nomads! Again, for my RP thing...

Here's a small preview of my newest sketch...

I'm not all the way finished with this one yet. I'll edit this post later if I do finish it.

Edit - Here's the final product:

Crappy glass beads incoming!

Actually, it wasn't too bad for my first few attempts at new techniques. I'd never tried making poked flowers, using frit (crushed glass) and encasing a bead in a transparent color. This is the final attempt for the day; the first two aren't worth mentioning.

Left bead: ivory base, GlassDiversions "praline" frit, dark lapis and dark periwinkle poked flowers, encased in effetre clear. A decent 3rd attempt, but the bead holes are ragged. Bead on the right is transparent gray with dark lapis poked dots covered in transparent light purple.

Really liking those glass marbles, Devin. happy.gif

Oh, as for me... I drew Burnie from Rooster Teeth yesterday, who is the voice of Church in the RvB series:

The shirt is black in the real picture reference that I drew from but I didn't feel like shading it in. Plus it makes the whole thing messier because I usually end up putting my hand on the page and get the stuff on it.
Devin Austra
Learned how to do "viking knit" today. Everything except the bead separators and the caps on the ends of the knit was handmade. I liked the idea of making my own clasps out of thick silver wire instead of using a store bought set. I'm not the one who made the beads though. I didn't have any of my own that I liked with the silver so I bought a few from the instructor.

Doofing around in painter. Mostly just blocks of color at this point in my progression. I was trained as an animator not an illustrator so I find that I tend to over-do detail before I should be. A quirk I'm working on, I just have a weird desire to get the intricate stuff outta the way before the boreing stuff. But when it comes to illustration, you gotta do all the foundation stuff before the intricate. Dunno, seems to be a common theme among alot of animators I know.

Basically I'm fighting myself to do very little detail untill I can get the "tone" the way I want it. (Which as you can see I've already failed at, I detailed the foreground blue buildings a bit)

I suck at landscapes tho, so this is a new frontier for me. Not sure if choosing a night scene was the easier option tho lol.

Warning, if you don't like "Dark Art", please don't look at the links of my artwork :P I make stuff that people would call "emo". I take critique so tell me anything you think could be worked on and particularly HOW I should work on it, please comment my dA account thoadthetoad.deviantart.com
Why? - Angst
A little series I call "Why?". I got bored and I like to make disturbing images, so there it is :D
another "Why?" pic, and each stands for an emotion. This one is for insanity.

There are many more but I'm too lazy to post them :P

Ended up being way more comical than realistic. As you can see.
Devin Austra
That manages to be both comical and scary at the same time.

I was able to use the glass studio's equipment for free all this week, so I've been going in the mornings before work, whenever I can manage to drag my butt out of bed earlier than usual.

These are the beads I made Tuesday. When I make stuff, I have to wait a day to get it. It has to sit in the kiln for hours to properly anneal (slowly cool) so it won't break easily, and I pick it up the next day.
Sometimes people ask why we bother with the annealing process. It takes hours, it's a bit of a hassle and it uses a good amount of electricity to run the kiln, but it's worth it. If you want a good idea of how well proper annealing works, get those cheap, mass produced marbles made overseas and drop them on concrete. They tend to chip, crack, split in half, show little powdery dents, etc. because they aren't properly annealed, which would make them more durable. The manufacturers make them as cheaply as possible. I have a whole bowlful of the cheap marbles and they're all showing dents just from being stirred around in a bucket full of water to clean them.

For comparision: Someone at work accidentally dropped one of my glass beads on the concrete floor today (one of those two tone ones). Even after bouncing like a rubber ball several times (I had no idea glass beads bounced so well), skidding across the floor to land under a table and being stepped on accidentally, it shows no damage at all.

The beads I made today I will probably add to this post by editing, rather than make another post.
I would have made more today, but I ran the oxygen tank dry.

Two tone beads, made with a black bead, topped with white dots, which are then toppped with a transparent color. The white just helps the teal and blue show up on the black bead.

Tiger patterned beads. I'm going to mess around and try some different patterns to get a more realistic fur pattern.

I wouldn't mind learning how to do glass stuff... I wouldn't mind learning how to do a lot of things, though. ^^

But, I've got ninjas to draw up for a my roommate's quiz that he'll be putting up on Banana-nana-Ninja (that is, once I get the other 9 ninjas done...). I've got one done so far, the "suburban ninja," which required the least thought since I already know what it's supposed to look like. I kinda cheated (and will be with the others, too) and did the sketch right over a photo of my roommate posing. ^^ I'm also trying my hand at strictly black & white.

I either had a really, really really good day on Saturday, or I just have a knack for really small bead sculpture.
These are all less than an inch tall, to give you an idea of the detail.

Hearts. I really like the one on the left. It looks like stained glass when held up to the light. 1.8 cm tall.

Beer stein beads! These were a hit at work. They're 2.5 cm tall.

Chicken beads.

The little one is 1.6 cm tall, the big one with the frit is 1.8 cm tall. Unfortunately, both cracked because I didn't keep them hot enough in the flame while adding the details.
I swear that little one on the left looks like Foghorn Leghorn. laugh.gif

Some "swirly" beads. I really like the "tendrils floating in midair" look. The biggest is 1.6 cm diameter. They look better now that I've cleaned out the bead holes.

Figured since I was having such a good day and I was having such a good time, I'd buy a few rods of colors I didn't have and try ice cream cone beads. The "cake cone" is 2.7 cm tall.
Redington
Love the beer mugs and ice cream cones, Devin. happy.gif

My husband is writing a book and this is the cover I have thus far worked out for it. He's currently in 2nd draft and hopefully we'll have something published soon. We're very excited! I think he's changing the title again tho but /shrug. Not a biggy.

This is the front cover (so far) and the spine. Still a work in progress but getting somewhere biggrin.gif

I second you there Starsong. I am just learning how to do glass beads so my stuff is still very rough, but my aunt makes gorgeous glass statues, including a lovely 50th annversary arrangement for my mom and dad, a baby bascinet etc.

One of my biggest problems is I do not have a steady hand anymore:(

i wish i could do beads... im still stuck on stain glass ill try to take pics of my bigger works.

will modify this post to contain them biggrin.gif

This is my Role Playing character: Sakura. This pic was drawn on lined paper - you can still see some of the lines on her wings and such. After I scanned it, I coloured it on photoshop and placed her on a photo background.

Work + Bored = S curve character doodles! You draw any S type line and then work the figure around it. As you can I see I for some reason today prefer the backwards S 3 out of 4 times. It's a good way to get a sense of movement in your human figures. wink.gif

Oh and don't forget, when drawing people, circles, ovals and squares for those body parts!!! Flesh it all in after you get the bulk of the figure sketched in.

Maybe I'll make this a .. progressional thingy... like a crappy euology built tutorial on the human figure.
