Hey everyone, fresh meat on the block. In my first post of all the wonders with LFG comic.. there is one peculiar thing I seriously havent got my finger on.. In the chapter where they found the glorious Ken castle, right before the invasion starts the army litteraly attacks itself, starting with that very very dumb stricken recruit staring at his generals shiny armour... But seriously.. why, oh why tell me please.. (havent found any other posts about it and thought Id make my own tongue.gif )

Because half the army consisted of Vulii, evil elves
Neomancer
or at least elves who lived near or within Vulli lands (I think Vulli and Vattay are more like ideological titles rather than racial)
It was an attempt to remove possable traitors before the battle began.

blink.gif ook.. So, the army is "half good half evil"? Sounds like a really nice advertising for the army, "hey, can never go wrong with our new evil half of the army, *low voice* members sold seperatly", if they are in the army just to face an even greater army WHY THE HELL DO YOU KILL YOUR OWN MEN?! dry.gif, they may betray you or they may not.. however when facing a larger opponent, dont shoot yourself in your knees.. its just plain stupid, or was it something more? that the general refused them as allies.. and besides.. that stupid recruit did not look like an elf, altough he said he was from their territory.. I still dont get it
Neomancer
think of it as moral ambiguity to cast doubt on the honor of Kenethica. It was meant as a racial cleansing so only the pure would be left. The idea being that the pure would be victorious despite the odds, whereas an impure army could only fail.

It's better to go in with smaller numbers from the start of the battle than to get overwhelmed when half your army turns around and joins the enemy.

Anyhow, I hate to sound like a broken record, but they have their points... WHAT THEY SAID.
That and if you had a giant army and half were from enemy territory, would YOU risk them turning out you in a cruicial part of battle?
Kip
Hm.. But in its irony, he decimates his own "impure" army to the "pure" in a shorter meaning, he kills half of his men because they have pointy ears.. The generals twisted idea of a "pure" army could very well have decreased the time they had to kill the child to set Ken castle free..

Think of the roman army, which consisted of conscripts. The core of the Kingdom's army should always consists of loyal soldiers, not conscripts from other lands. Someone should add that to the Evil Overlord list. Or maybe start a new list entitled "My army will never..."

Anyhow. He states that the concept isn't just to rid the non-loyal soldiers. Its to make it so the army rips itself apart outside the walls, and therefore, won't rip itself apart INside the kingdom's walls. Ideally, this would be done yes, in order to purge, but also in order to keep as much of the kingdom intact as possible for as long as possible, and hope for a miracle to save yourself.

Its right up there with the 'spray and pray' method, but much less effective.

It's been said before, I'm sure, but I'd like to put in my own view of things.
You're in an army, and suddenly there's a considerable and not unreasonable doubt that a good chunk of your army might turn traitor. Do you A: Ignore that, go to battle with your enemy who just HAPPENS to be the side you suspect that chunk of your armor to be loyal to, or B: Weed out all doubt, and go to battle with soldiers you are reasonably sure will NOT stab you in the back?
A huge army means nothing if in the middle of the battle half your ranks turn against you. And better to weed that out in open ground than within the walls of the place you're trying to defend.
Kip
True, better to kill rather than be killed.. But what I missed was the part where he actually made a nuisance that they might turn on them mellow.gif , sure they were partly of the enemies territory buut.. I never got the feeling that it was a problem, I might have missed a page but I never got the idea of them turning on their brethren in arms :/ it might just be me.. but I think that was an important part..
