Full Version: Theories....

Akuman
Hello there.

I'm not a professionally trained literary nerd, but I do seem to find a couple of things in the LFG comic, to either be

a ) Not explained properly (perhaps for a reason)
b ) Extremely coincidental

Perhaps I am just complicating things, and blowing the small things in the comic, out of proportion, and into something that Sohmer did not intend for it to be.

Nevertheless, here is a topic that hopefully offers people the opportunity to discuss their theories on the LFG comic, to perhaps predict to a certain extent, a future event in the LFG comic.

So if you've got a theory about the comic, go ahead and post it in this topic where we will discuss it, or dismiss it.
And don't be afraid of posting theories that might seem completely unrealistic.
As long as you have evidence in the comic backing up your theory, go ahead and post it.

I'll start us off (copy pasted from my post in a closed topic)

Don't you find it weird how Richard goes 'No one puts Richard in a corner', when Tavor attacks the Archmage.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I've never seen Richard refer to himself in the third person.
Could it be that the archmage is in fact...Richard?

Later on, Richard goes to the archmage 'You seem familiar'.
I'm unsure of how this works out, its sorta a confused message but something is strange in Richard's relation to the archmage.

Discuss or Dimiss!

Grym
Dismissed. It was a reference to dirty dancing. The 'You look familiar' was Sohmer taunting us in the comics forum laugh.gif
Rip Van Ishmael
It's a 'Richard=Archmage' topic in disguise! You know what this means.
Akuman
Damn, thought I had something there tongue.gif

And please no derailing, I am honestly not trying to provoke people into talking about the greatness of Richard (even though he probably could beat Chuck Norris with a spoon).

I'm gonna go scout around for some more theories!

Actually, if you haven't noticed, Shoop Da Whoop is the new intarwebs fad.
Akuman
I haven't actually XD, I'm quite oblivious to forum fads these days...

Anyway back to the topic...

You know how Cale is given orders by the last King of Gamlon to avenge them, and really seems to want to accomplish that goal?

What happens to that goal?

Has Tavor's extreme methods to accomplish this goal changed Cale's plans, or shall we perhaps in the future see Cale avenge the fall of Gamlon?
Rip Van Ishmael
I think he was concentrating more on the 'bathe your blades in blood' part, given that's how they got the map to Kethencia. After that, things just kinda went their own way.

New? That thing is older than Sparta and Lolrus.

Cale's idealism just got squished like a tiny little bunny in Richard's claws. This probably threw everything including his orders into a new perspective. Which will be fun for everyone.
Rip Van Ishmael
Shhhh, its a diversionary tactic. And a good one, since Penny seems to be on a bender right now, so (s)he'll believe me.
Hekateras
Actually, Richard has referred to himself in third person on at least one other occasion. "Richard for the win!" See explosive mast ship blowing. ^^
Rip Van Ishmael
And they were both, quite notably, blatant cultural references.

I luvvs the 'Richard for the win!' comment.
Jabba
heh question i have to ask is why its taken them like 50 strips to start looking for the sword again tongue.gif
Rip Van Ishmael
All that shit before with Kethencia? That was looking for the sword. Then, they found the sword. And Tavor went *poof* with it. Now, they have to figure out how to find it again.
Frozen_Sun
They could you know, totally go back in time. Again. And then perhaps a third time. But that would be it.
richardthebest
or as gid said in page 90 to collect enough gold gems artifacts ans such to pay off the debt to aelloon. this is just a suggestion oke.

Grah! Something is still making me think Krunch is in on the whole thing! It's probably the whole 'We know nothing about krunch' thing that's making me feel this way, but still!

Another thing that's been on my mind:

Do we know when the returned to? Are we sure that it's when they came from?

Why do I ask? well, think about THIS for a moment:

Gamlon's king was old for an elf, and you really couldn't tell what he looked like for all that beard and hair.

Suppose, for just a moment, that instead of going forward, they've gone back FURTHER?

Cale is prophesied to become a king by the Archmage.

He never said what king. Imagine, if you will, if Clae was intended to become the King of Gamlon?

Yeah, just think on that for a moment.

My brain hurts now.. I'm going to bed...
Rip Van Ishmael
Intriguing.

There you go, you fangirls-of-Cale. Now you get to see how he dies. Bwahahaha.

Wait, does that mean he met himself? Don't you think he would have recognised himself? I mean, he's not like Richard (yet), he could only have had one lifetime between king him and him as we know.....him...>.>

Anywho, there's also the fact that they knew his name, and it would be kind of obvious if they had the same name. Something like that would have been mentioned. Unless, of course, he changed his name, as GB predicted in her fic, after killing the kid.

Something to chew on though.

no no i am a great believer in the Archmage= Richard thing... but yah the no one puts richard in a corner was a dirty dancing reference... But i do think it had another meaning to it and that meaning was sort of like a disguised clue that he was infact related to the archmage... either the arch mage... his son or one of his deciples...
Hekateras
Huh. I think that if Cale was the King of Gamlon he met in the portal, the resemblance would be just a tinge more obvious. Like, the King would share Cale's eye colour, rather than having blue eyes. Speaking of which, what's Cale eye colour? Black? O.o Anyway, I also think we can agree the king's face doesn't look much like Cale's. Different eyebrows, a wholly different nose... Besides, we've already have a glimpse at what a somewhat aged Cale would look like, in page 88, and there's not much in common.

But Cale'anon comes from the future. He is completely shocked to find out that a society of nice elves even exists, the vulli are all he has ever known.

In fact we don't know if the present elves are Vulii. I think he never heard of 'em before, though.
The gF
They are no longer called the Vulii, but the descendants of the Vulii are what make up most of the elves-- they're the evil elves Richard talks about. There are a few survivors of Gamlon, and their descendants apparently include Cale'anon, though I don't know if they're all called the Vatay now.

In any case, I don't think Cale is capable of growing a beard.
Rip Van Ishmael
Why not? I mean, look at that long, luxurious hair. He seems to have no trouble growing it.
The gF
For one thing, he seems like the kind of guy who would if he could. XP

And two, because I wouldn't put it past Sohmer and Lar to do that just to torment poor Cale further.
Rip Van Ishmael
I dunno, that seems like a mightily boring way to torment him.

I mean, compare 'not being able to grow a beard' and 'being stuck with Richard for an inderminable amount of time'

I don't think its an issue.

Thats alot of 'I's.
The gF
Not if he's trying to be like the king of Gamlon!

Additionally, I say this because in most other fantasy things, it seems like elves aren't able to grow beards at all. o.O I could be wrong there, but we do see a couple of hairy-faced elves. Though the only ones with lines are King Gamlon and Centa.
Rip Van Ishmael
Mebbe. I see Cale as the more, 'pressed and cleanshaven' (as much as one can manage to be in their world, I guess) type.

Then again, new Cale might find it more appropriate to get like, a goatee or something.

Hm.

I can't imagine it on him though.
The gF
I'm just glad they sharpened his chin. XD That old square chin looked a little ridiculous.
Rip Van Ishmael
*looks at the banner* Just a little.
Hekateras
Actually, I think the main difference is that they made his face a bit longer. Or thinner. Whatever. ^^

Cale should totally try and get some sleep, though. smile.gif Look at those shadows!
Rip Van Ishmael
Not shadows. Mascara.

Yeah, it's like he's been hanging around Tavor too much. They're starting to look alike. blink.gif
Frozen_Sun
Wait, those shadows aren't the side effects of the drugs?
Rip Van Ishmael
Of course they are.

And his recently discovered love for mascara. It just isn't as dark because it keeps getting washed away by his tears.
