Well, I remembered the ole NaNo this week after getting an email from an old sign-up, and gave it some thought. For those not in the know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, and it's sort of a contest to write a 50,000 word novel in November from scratch.

The "About" page, which explains much better than I could.

Now, I've always seen it as a fun little excercise in writing, and I figured I'd see who else was participating this year. I hadn't ever had the time to/ability to in the past, but I'll be giving it a shot this year. So, who else is going to be giving it a go?
BigDeadMushy
I might give it a shot.I'm one of those 'one day I'll do this' sorta people, this will give me an excuse to give it a shot....the fun part is that I don't have a lot of time due to various other activities...I say g'luck to any and all participants(myself included,I'm gonna need it...writing skills are poor at best tongue.gif)

I'm going to give it a crack.

It's been years since I actually wrote anything, so I shouldn't have too much trouble to force some semblance of order into a story. Fifty thousand words isn't so much.
BigDeadMushy
50,000 is around 49,500 more than I've been able to intelligibly string together before.maybe if I do 100 500word pieces tongue.gif
Verbose
It works out to 1600 words a day.

I have, in a busy period, put out twelve thousand in two.

My trouble is remembering and then caring simultaneously.

"National" does this mean that i'm being a foreigner cannot compete?
Tanga
I think I'm going to try it for the first time, finally. I wanted to the last couple of years but it's so intimidating! Whatever I do get down, though, will be a great start. I don't want to write the great american novel, I just need to practice my writing. I was once pretty good at it. I've fallen out of practice as of late. Woo, I's going bak tuh skool!!

They address this on their site somewhere, I believe.

I think the consensus they reached was InNoWriMo didn't have the right sound.
TheGrubz
If I could write anything longer than a short story I'd compete but sadly my fate lies in the realm of anthologies.
BigDeadMushy
yes, they covered it.it's called national because IntNoWriMo didn't sound right.
so yes, internationals are allowed to take part, hence why I can do so.

I'll give it a shot... it's not like I'm really doing anything IMPORTANT with my life currently.
Jabba
i'll give it a go i guess. though i cant express anything other than contept that i have to have a 50,000 word limit.

SO SMALL! ¬¬ i will write something then cut it down for it but i AINT happy about it.
TE_evilweasel
i did like 2000 in like a day and a half but that was just because i was writing something goofy and the words just kept coming out of my head ... it was probly the most fun writing anything ive ever had... although i guess its not the best seeing as i didnt really use all of the correct grammar but still was fun as hell

50,000 isn't the limit, it is a goal.

And seeing as you get absolutely nothing for winning NaNo other than a little internet button, I don't see why people even care if it's international or not. I mean, just put on an internet fake moustache and speak with an internet Cali surfer accent or seriously what

Don't worry about editing, grammar (to an extent), correctness or anything. The purpose of NaNo is to make you up and write them thar werdz you would have always put off until "next week" or whenever. If you want to work with all that stuff later--sure, there's been many successful stories of people home-publishing (hee) or even just plain getting published with their NaNos and whatnot. There's even after-contests to finish your novel, to get your novel edited, and all the way through the publishing route after if you want to try and go that way. Plus, when their forums are up they're really awesome for finding the most random information ever on pretty much anything.
TE_evilweasel
i wouldnt mind giving it a try but i'd probly be too busy with school >.< still it might be fun if i make something i think is funny
