To make it fair, Richard is on vacation for this poll, since he'd win first by a landslide.
So aside from the Lord of the Thirteen Hells, who is your favorite of the group?

Sooba! I like kitties

And Sooba seems to like Richard

I voted Krunch. He seems to be the best voice of reason in the group, plus Tauren (Minotaurs) rock.

Well, if we can only choose from the actual group, I would have to choose Cale. He's constantly making want to cuddle him.

I almost didn't, but if there wasn't anybody beneath Richard (i.e., everybody), then he wouldn't be the best, now would he? Well, actually, he'd still find a way.
I say Sooba. I like kitties, do you like kitties, I think kitties are
wonderful. Especially kitties with paws the size of your head bearing claws the size of those really big steak knives you get at like, Lone Star, and mandibles of death that can rip your internals out with much the same ease as plucking a daisy, only with a lot more blood and agony.

Cale will win. Richard is the most AWESOME character, but Cale gets the most face time, and has the most character development. Not enough is known about any of the other characters, besides their basic personality quirks.

Sep 29 2007, 08:36 PM
yeah i guess thats true, but after richard i want to know more about krunch, i LIKE cale, and in all fairness there is a chance that he might take over from krunch in my favourites (thats a correct spelling in england.. so shh) stake but so far krunch seems a lot more interesting.
Rip Van Ishmael
Sep 29 2007, 08:52 PM
Ja, people around here get all iffy if you don't speaka the same english as they do. Haters. I personally don't like Krunch that much. Its not that I have anything against intelligent exposition over senseless slaughter(though one can never grow bored over the latter), its just Krunch doesn't really say anything we don't already know. The most profound things he's ever said are 'people are different' and 'a promise lasts forever'. And those were just for the benefit of our questionably-naiive elf boy. His extensive dialog so far consists of something you'd read in a fortune cookie.

well im thinking of the strip as a whole, there are so many areas of krunch that have been left unanswered (changes the dvd in the background to superman returns) where as with cale i know they WILL be answered with krunch im not so sure. the same goes for richard, i know at some point richard will be unravelled further, but i have this feeling that krunch will always be left as the unexplained one.

He might get a bit of exposition eventually, this is just a baby comic, and I don't see it being the kind of thing that will die in less than a decade. Cale is getting his accolades now, and comic-wise I'm predicting Benny is next, given this whole quest thing is because of her anyway. It looks like Richard will get his backstory in the upcoming movie (which I absolutely can't wait for). But like I said, the comic is still young, so Krunch will probably get his day, just not as soon as everybody else.
I mean, we already know a little about him. His father is a politician, he has a brother who's a warrior. It kind of seems to me, from his little chat with the late Lord Stoll, that he's a bit of an outcast from his family. Which would make sense, him being a scholar and all, while his kin seem to be more military oriented.
Or at least, thats what I got from that one page of comic. >_>

Sep 29 2007, 09:25 PM
I guess so but there are always those characters in the books films and comics who are interesting but not THAT interesting enough to get a propper back story and i always saw that of krunch. i guess the reason why is because he is one of those "guide" characters, or at least so far he has been. you know, the gandalf characters, the ones that seem to take a hell of a lot of importance in a story and you make a lot of assumptions about but are never really ever explained. i mean who knows a thing about gandalf really? his story is never gone into it is just assumed. the same goes for krunch...
..or at least so far it has.

Mmm, Walter O' Dim. Best non-character evar.
Jabba
Sep 29 2007, 09:32 PM
now your being silly, walter WASNT a non-character he was actually... the man in black

you need to read that series MUCH more heavily. Ahh the dark tower, i love thee.
Also krunch would be the red king in this case. pretty much a deadly important character, and yet we know almost nothing about him, he is just there to fill a hole
Rip Van Ishmael
Sep 29 2007, 09:38 PM
Okay, for one, Krunch could never compare to the Red King. And Walter was a non-character, his sole purpose was to pave the way for Roland. He only got a little face in the first book, then everything else was [primarily] about Jake. I hate how he turned out to be a bit of a pussy at the end, but then again I hate how horribly Roland and the Red King's luvvchild failed at existance. (I just forgot his name..fuck.) I mean, he gets offed by a billy-bumbler and a bit of bad horsemeat!
My favourite part about Walter though, was that he turned out to be Flagg from The Dragons Eyes. It's ironic that he killed Roland originally, then a couple hundred decades later, totally gets pwned by him.
Jabba
Sep 29 2007, 09:50 PM
Oo flagg is from the stand... whats this dragons eyes stuff? dear lord is there actually something i dont know about this. inform me, quickly!
also i think that krunch can and does compare to the red king, because the red king is important, yet has no real information about him ever specified. in other respects of course he is entirely different, but for those parts they play the same character.
Rip Van Ishmael
Sep 29 2007, 09:56 PM
You haven't read the Dragons Eyes? (Well, actually, I haven't read the Stand. Which I dunno why, its like his most famous book.) I think its technically called 'Behind the Dragon's Eyes', but w/e. Its a really medievally kind of book, the style is really different from what Mr. King usually puts out. It about This king, his two sons, and the kings advisor, the indomitable Flagg. Basically the king is stupid, so Flagg runs things. Of his two sons, ones a pussy and the others a born-leader. Of course Flagg doesn't want leader-boy leading, so he assassinates the king in a most wonderful way, frames LB, takes pussy under his evil wings and chaos ensues. The late-kings name, do it interest ya, was Roland.
And role-wise, maybe. Maybe. But I still can't, in any way, conceive of a similarity between the Red King and Krunch. It just doesn't work.
Jabba
Sep 29 2007, 10:01 PM
the similarities stop entirely after "they are important and their backstories arent explained" if you take even the tiniest character depth step you are lost in a whirlpool of dissimilarities. I still maintain that krunch is the lesser spotted guide who is inportant yet unexplained.
also i will have a look for that book, flagg appears in a HELL of a lot of kings books, but his first appearance is in The Stand, so hes predomenantly from that, even though he acts entirely differently in the dark tower books.
I still stand by my judgement of krunch as my second favourite, untill cale does something uber cool like takeling a dragon.

Well, remember technically the DT series is set in a distant future. Flagg, later known as Walter O' Dim, the Man in Black, has been around for a couple hundred decades. Maybe even a couple millenium.
I like to think of it as him evolving a Richard-like joy in fucking with anybody and everybody just for the hell of it. Only, instead of slaughtering people, he plays intricate mind-games that leave his victims as babbling, hell-plagued lunatics. ^.^

Actually, I'd think that was
IT, but since most of his books sell better than hotcakes, it's hard to tell. At some point of popularity, it's just a matter of degree.
As for ol' Flagg and the Dark Tower, I'm currently reading
Insomnia, which hearkens back to the Tower and the Red King (or Crimson King, in this book). Stephen King, how I adore thee. He just has SUCH a way with words.

Exactly. That's half the fun of reading -- finding the tie-in.
But my favorites are a toss-up between
Insomnia and
Bag of Bones.
IT is a contender, but only from nostalgia's sake.
Comic-wise, I see more parallels between LFG and
IT than anything else. I mean, what else is our intrepid crew but the Loser's Club with a better sense of humor and dragons/griffons to kill? Woot!
Krunch - Stuttering Bill (scholarly with natural leadership capabilities)
Benny - Beverly (strong, but still vulnerable and the only girl in the group)
Richard - Richie (sense of humor, though Richie isn't wicked)
Cale - Stan (the "didn't want to get involved" aspect more than the neat-freak thing)
Of course, there's no real correlation for Sooba. Not saying it's a direct parallel, of course, just throwing it out there.
