Spyder- On a different note...How far is too far? On the news today it seemed an inordinate time was spent on the comments of a radio show host, Don Imus I think. I mean I generally have news programs on in the background most of the morning and every ten minutes of so they were back on it. I don't agree with or like what he said, but it does raise some questions. How far is too far? Is fame the general mark between just being a jerk and being a public enemy? Why are some things okay to make fun of and others not? When the articles on Free Speech were written was there a clause that said "If the material is deemed offensive that it is okay to suppress and or punish it"? Thoughts anyone?

I'm a Libertarian, so my view on this may be in the minority, but I think that Freedom of Speech should be protected at all costs, including many things that are today classified as "hate speech".

Spyder- Bad as it sounds, I have to agree. You can't stop people from being hurtful if they want to be. Outlaw a word or phrase and someone will come up with a new way of degrading someone. Laws also do not allow the stopping of all hateful speech, only that which has been lobbied for by special interest groups. In some things hateful speech is encouraged if it fits popular opinion. I don't think it should be both ways. And I maintain, to outlaw any form of speech, I would like to see proof of some decency clause in the Bill of Rights. If it is there then at least there would be legal backing, but I don't think it is.
Jimmy
Apr 10 2007, 07:30 PM
I think that by attempting to stifle free speech by classifying it as "hate speech", we go against the very intent of the First Amendment. The whole idea behind that Amendment is to protect speech that would be unpopular/distasteful to much of the American public. We do ourselves a disservice by restricting that freedom to ensure that people's feelings aren't hurt. And just because you attempt to stifle someone's spouting of hate filled rhetoric, doesn't mean you've done anything to address the underlying cause of that hate.

Well as Trudeau said it "The State has no place in the Nation's bedrooms." Though it was about saying that if gay people wanted to play chesterfield rugby let them, I think it applies to teens as well, so long as she isn't alot younger than you like under 15 is a bit much but basically if you two of you are ready to do it then don't let Big Brother stop you.

I played WoW all weekend. I rank Shadowfang Keep 9 times to get Commander's Crest and casters won the need roll every fuckin' time.
Eventually I got a 60 to take me through, and I ended up getting Meteorshard, which I can't use, and binds on pick up. I hate the world.
