Well, they basically did for verby and scratch with the VB show, but lets be honest. They would have got their with no problem anyway.

I concur with the sarcasm hidden very, very deep in there. It's like prohibition as in it's a good idea, but it won't work.

Well I would by now if I started on the board when I made my account, see how I'm the 14th person too, but I'm making my way back up. If things keep going like this I should have hit 4 digits by the end of the month. Blind should have his by the end of next week I would think.

Well I usually demand dinner before I do anything like that but for this forum I won't demand much.

300 posts!!! now if only I had a big theatre in town to watch that again for this achievement that means diddly

Da Hunter... I love Gir!!!! My favorite character from Invader Zim.
I hope you like The Long Dark Teatime. I loved it, though I think that Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency was just a bit better.

P.S. Demanding dinner from this forum is risky indeed. You might be horrified by what you get.

Well I just started but I have a crap load of work for school to do before its over in a week. But I heart GIR too. And thats the reason why I don't demand dinner before I whore around the forum.

I just realized that LotR is like Brokeback Mountain but Sam and Frodo didn't explore their love for each other.

Spyder- Does anyone here know anything about dream interpretation? I believe I've mentioned it before, but sleep is not my friend. I suffer from chronic nightmares. What the hell is it with the houses?! Anyway I'm trying to figure it out, maybe do something about them. I've looked at the books in the store, but.... I don't know. Seems either they don't detail elements of my dreams or the elements can mean a lot of different things. If anyone knows of a site or a book or something that seems to know what it is talking about, I'd appreciate it if you posted it. Thanks.
Hunter
Sigmund Froid(sp?) that german doctor guy, he wrote a book on Dreams. Maybe look in Amazon they seem to have lots of stuff.
I3lind
Son of a bitch, i wrote out a big post thing and my comp crashed and im so pissed off. Any who heres the short version as i have done some dream analysis stuff in my psych courses. Books arent good tool for interpreting as they give a broad overview as to what certain element may mean but the fact is different people hold different objects in different regards in their minds and associate them in different way to other mood/feelings and objects. So if you want to really get down to the bottom of your nightmare problem, what you need to do is keep a "dream journal". Now what i mean buy this is not necessarily a conventional dream journal that you may or may not have tried before. The second you wake up or even notice you are dreaming, you need to write down the different things/themes that are popping up, i.e. conversations/traveling/work and the different underlining moods that are associated with what is going on. Does a certain thing cause anxiety and if it does record it and move on to the next part. Record as much as you can as i know that some of it will become hazy and be forgotten as you are writing. This is fine, and once you are done writing it, close the journal and dont look back at it. After about two weeks of this, open it back up and start reading. This can get a little creepy as it is sometimes known to send you back into the dream but in the end it is good. Try to interpret why certain underlining situation are popping up, does it correlate to anything stressful you have experienced lately or do anything in the dream hold a certain significance to you, i.e. something like a necklace that you may associate with something like your grandmother, and why would you be thinking of that right now. For many people this may prove difficult as may of us arent that self aware but if you pay attention, you may begin to draw meaning out of your subconscious thought patterns and be able to change your everyday moods and actions to improve your overall everyday attitude/feelings and thus your dreams. If you are not able to derive any meaning out of them and it continues to trouble you to an extent that you find it hard to function on a everyday basis, you may want to take your journals to a professional and get help. Another thing it could be is you find yourself stressed because you have been having nightmares, therefore you are having nightmares because you are worried you are going to have them, which is more common than you might know. Just try not to worry about it and they should dissipate in time. I know it may sound easier said then done but people do it all the time.

Yeah, thats the short answer that i have for you. On a final note, i think i may have an idea where your anxiety may be coming from due to previous posts. You are trying to have kids again are you not. This is a stressful thing as the fear of not being able/miscarriages is very scary. However, you need to have faith that God is looking over you (if you are indeed religious) and everything is going to be fine. By stressing, you will not improve your chances as it can cause major physical changes to occur in your body that isnt healthy. Relax and take things easy.

My two cents and good luck with the sleeping.
Hunter
Ei Gads Blind, you sure seem to be a well read fellow

I am what is known as a closet nerd and Dreams just happen to be one thing that i have a major intrest in as mine are very "strange" for lack of a better word. Human thought patterns in generall are very intresting and while i will never ever be an expert or hope to be. I just say what i know from experience and some lite reaserch. Take everything i say with a grain of salt as it often does have soe personal infrences that are not necissarly commonly excepted or proven.
Hunter
hmm, well I take what everyone says with a grain of salt, since online I can't really find out what peoples biases are I usually tend to no agree (on serious stuff) without doing a check on whatever topic it is from several sources... though that takes time and time isn't what I have... goddamned papers.
I3lind
Very very good. I always urge people to question and research on anything they hear and then form their own opinions. Otherwise, we will just have a nation(s) full of people like Bush. And just as a clearer up, even with my bush bashing comments and views, i am a conservitive individual, i did vote for him and i still stand behind him and the decisions he makes. Didnt see that one coming did you.
Hunter
I wasn't guessing what way you voted, ideally both main parties have very good points the are good, but with each is going I would vote for Nader (sp?) if I was an American citizen. But I voted NDP last federal election because the Conservatives are too conservative and Stephen Harper reminds me of a Ken doll, the Liberals are just conservatives and the leadership is in the crapper.
Avi
Dream books are pretty useless. There is no specific code to decifer your dreams. According to Freud it was how you interpreted your own dreams that revealed the most about your subconcious. However, mentioning Freudian psychology to any psychologist besides a psychoanalysist is just asking to be mocked. There are a lot of theories on dreaming. One being that as your brain resorts and condenses information during REM sleep it attempts to make sense of the random images, to create a storyline. The human brain loves patterns and attempts to make sense of even random occurences. So if your life is stressful you are going to be sorting through stressful images and therefore have stressful dreams. A technique to battle nightmares is lucid dreaming. You can train yourself to be concious of the fact that you are dreaming. Then you can wake yourself or force yourself to change dreams while staying asleep. I am not well educated on how one learns these techniques but I know they are taught and they do work.
Phedre
Poor Freudian sympathizers. Though Freud gets alot of credit for coming up with the idea that what happens to us in early life impacts our growth and development, and that who we are as an adult is an indication of what happened in our childhood, he did have some rather strange ideas, and is considered rather outdated by non psychoanalysts.
I agree with AVI that our dreams reflect our lives, and that what is going on in your life and what you are exposing your brain to has an impact on what you dream. I also agree that your interpretations will have much more meaning that any sort of Freudian or Ericksonian interpretation. Different things mean different things to different people. I have heard about the lucid dreaming techniques, and they might work, though I don't know exactly how. You could also try to get yourself in a certain mindset before you sleep. Perhaps thinking about pleasant things before bed, or giving violent video games a rest for an hour or two before lights out would help. Good luck.
Hunter
I wouldn't call myself a sympathizer, more of someone that doesn't have a clue. I can admit when I know nothing about some things.
I3lind
Ok, i got to throw this out there about lucid dreaming, i have tried it and if i was doing it "correctly" i would not recomend it. I felt so much more tired the next day as it infringes your ability to go through true REM cycles, as your brain is being actively used in a way that impeeds it. But maybe i was doing it wrong.

And yes, many of Frued's theories were and are a bit wonky, but it takes the out of the box kind of thinking to truely make great strides and inspire other great thinkers to come up with new theories and unlock the mysteries of our lives.
Phedre
True. Though the Oedipal thing is just a bit creepy.
I wouldn't say that I don't think his basic theories were right, just some of the specifics throw me off a bit.

I agree that it does take someone who thinks for themselves, is just a bit crazy, and is a tad obsessed to truly come up with the good stuff.

Spyder- Wow, thanks guys. I didn't really expect so many responses. It is possible my recent agonizing over having another child helped trigger this bout of nightmares, however I've had these scary house dreams since I was very young. I've had them so much that since my teens that I do know that I'm dreaming, but somehow it doesn't help. I remain trapped by the terror and anxiety of exploring the house. Some of the houses seem mundane except for the fear, others have a more menacing character and often have other half-seen denizens. In some I remain trapped inside the house trying to find the way out. In others I am outside at first and upon entering the house the terrors begin. It is usually the latter that has other denizens. There are a total of five different houses that recur, six if you count the space station(weird, I know). Two of the houses are always seen in one dream together, the others are all stand alone places. Other than simply being tired, I always wake up with a headache after these dreams, usually a pretty bad one.

I have considerd seeking professional help in this, but I am hesitant as many professional people love to prescribe medication. I've no interest in that. I too am a fan of psychology and most of the studies into human nature. A pleasant afternoon can be spent simply watching people in any public place(usually the mall, the park, or the beach in my case). My main issue with Freud is the fact that his theories are based upon a very small percentage of the population. He didn't exactly have a good cross-section of society that he studied. And yes, as others hear have pointed out, all the dream books I have looked at do give a very broad view of what your dream symbols might mean. They don't really help you find out what your dreams do mean. I thank everyone here who offered advice.

Freud is not discounted today because his theories were strange. Psychologist don't like the mention of Freud becuase his theories were bad. I mean bad in the way that they explained everything. You can have no growth with theories that explain everything, they cannot be modified becuase no new evidence can discredit them. This is why psychologists don't like Freud becuase his theories explained everything after the fact and caused a very long period of stagnation in the field. Anyway I just had to point that out becuase its something that drives psychologists crazy. O btw I'm in school for neuroscience wich is why this stuff gets me all excited smile.gif
