I'm pretty sure there is Jesus-done violence in the Bible. You know, scaring the animals in the corrupted temple and turning over the tables of money lenders (this may be what you're referring to). However, there is no real evidence that he turned violence on people.

First off, I'm not Christian. I've actually studied the Bible, though nowhere near exhaustively, and its accompanying philosophies so I feel obligated to point out when athiests are being retarded. I also argue with Christians as though I am one, because it's easier to debate when you're both assuming the same things.
Secondly, have you ever read the Apocrypha? I mean, you'd have to be a pretty prestigious anthropologist or something to have read a copy of a series of books that are of questionable authenticity, uncertain authorship and deemed uncanonical by every single Christian Church, not to mention rare as hell. And to act as though those accounts are accurate and unbiased? Amazing. I never realised that people didn't tell lies in the past, and that you could believe everything you read. Or were they so truthful back then you could believe everything anybody who claims to have read them says?
Also, I never realised that the Apocypha was a standardised and accepted series of books like the Bibles. That's amazing. I suppose it was all the non-Catholic Christians who compiled and copied them hundreds, thousands of times over millennia.

I agree on that "you did not read the apocrypha, and even if- it's not trustworthy..."-thing, but if you say it like this, you could also cry about, that jesus himself did not write the bible, like socrates his whole life is written down by his disciples (who could be a little...prejudiced) so they could have placed him in the right light...

My point wasn't that Jesus wrote the Bible, but that the Gospels (at least) are four distinct variations on the same story, verifying each other and the ideas represented in each.
From my understanding, none of the Apocyphal tomes have been verified by each other although some borrow information found in Biblical texts.

I think it actually has more merit as a fiction than a historical account. But then, I'm of the opinion that God has no place meddling in human affairs, so...

1. I'm hardly an anthropologist... In my 9th grade Bible class the textbook was a study copy of the Bible with the Apocrypha included after the regular Bible. We didn't touch on the Apocrypha much that year, but I read it anyway because it was interesting to me. So yes, I have read the Apocrypha, but no, I don't remember all of it perfectly (just like I don't know the regular Bible perfectly), The Infancy Gospel of Thomas was particularly fresh in my mind because we just took a look at it in my Mythology class this year. The Apocrypha aren't rare, you just have to look somewhere other than the regular Bible to find it.
2. I was going to quote the parts I paraphrased earlier, but I felt most people wouldn't take the time to read it all, and summarizing takes less time to write anyway. I guess it's mostly the fault of my own laziness that I didn't quote.

I am quite aware that its not considered canonical by churches and that its highly likely the stories in fact are inaccurate and/or biased (Hell, I've often wondered how accurate the canonical Bible really is... so considering I'm a Christian wondering about the accuracy of the Bible I sure as hell don't think the Apocrypha is 100% true either, and I never said it was). I didn't bring it up to try and preach any truths or anything like that. I brought the whole thing up just to play devil's advocate and say, "hey, there is a story out there about Jesus being violent." You don't have to take the story seriously... as you said, Christian churches don't, and I certainly can't make you or anyone else believe something is true because its not my right to force you to a certain way of thinking, and I sure as hell wouldn't make someone believe in something I don't think is completely true anyway.
In summary, your sarcasm actually kinda made me laugh as I'm pretty sarcastic myself, but I still felt the need to assert that the intent wasn't to make anyone think the Apocrypha is necessarily true... and honestly I'm not completely sure why you would assume that was my intent anyway.

I'm talking about the second kind, the Apocryphal texts. That textbook wasn't a regular Bible you could pull out of a pew rack, it wasn't so much a religious text as it was a book about studying the Bible, so it included the Apocrypha for, y'know, completion. But like I said, we didn't look at the Apocrypha much in class... I do go to a religious private school. =/
I guess the teacher wanted to use it anyway for the analyses (er, is that the correct plural form of 'analysis'?) it contained on the canonical Biblical texts.
Also... being a Protestant myself I was aware some Catholic bibles and the King James version had some additional books, but I'd never heard those extra books referred to as the Apocrypha... for me, the Apocrypha has always just meant those texts that no Christian denomination recognizes as canon. So I guess I learned something.

My fundemental point was, and remains, that even assuming the Infancy Gospel was correct - a big assumption - then it has no bearing on the issues under discussion.
