Hmmm...I currently have AOL Dial-up if that means anything. Yes, shameful I know...but I'm cheap. Not willing to pay the price for satellite or the conversions for high-speed, so I'm in Dial-up purgatory. I don't usually use any specific engine, just what my start-up screen's got.
It never gave me any trouble before though. My other web comics, and any other screens for that matter, seem to be working fine. It mystifies me...and pisses me off.

Mar 8 2007, 12:17 PM
This begs an interesting question; Are men in drag and women with peni genetalia the same thing?
Verbose
Mar 8 2007, 02:35 PM
Not at all.
Transvestites are men who enjoy dressing as women. They don't identify as women or claim to be them (except sometimes when in drag) but, for some reason or another, enjoy female clothing.
Transexuals are men who identify as women. These are often the people who have gender reassignment surgery. They believe that they are not the same gender externally as internally.
Hermaphrodites are people born with both sets of genitals, one of which is often (perhaps always, I'm unsure) non-functioning and/or less than fully formed.
Of course, I have taken a sexist slant in the above descriptions, but since chicks with dicks was the overall theme I addressed the topic somewhat directly.
Ballscratch
Mar 8 2007, 02:41 PM
Okay, so is a person, genetically a man by way of genes but with extreme cosmetic surgery so as to be indistinguishable from a woman, with the exception of still retaining a penis and a woman born with a penis, but not a vagoo, but genetically a female, the same thing?
Verbose
Mar 8 2007, 02:49 PM
Not really. Genetically speaking, I believe hermaphrodites are a little odd. A genetic male with extensive surgery remains, genetically, a male. There are no questions about it on that level. I'm hardly a definitive expert on the matter, but I think that hermaphrodites often have three chromosomes (although they're not the only ones) rather than two.
I could be wrong, because something is telling me all people with three chromosomes are sterile and I'm not sure 'maphrodites are.

I could be wrong, because something is telling me all people with three chromosomes are sterile and I'm not sure 'maphrodites are.
I am nearly certain that people born hermaphrodites suffer from a birth defect, not a genetic defect. We all start out with female genitalia, and at some point during fetal development a genetic male should develop a penis and testes, while a genetic female should retain a vagina. If the wrong hormones and other chemicals are present, or if the right ones are not, the penis might be extra small, or the testes might not have formed, or the clitoris might be extra big, etc. If this happens it may not be apparent physically what gender the person is. These unfortunates are often termed hermaphrodites.
"Historically the term hermaphrodite has also been used to describe ambiguous genitalia and gonadal mosaicism in individuals of unisexual species, especially humans beings. The broader term intersex is often used and is preferred by many such individuals and medical professionals.[2] However, some of these people do not like the connotations and misunderstanding of the word "intersexed" and thus prefer to use hermaphrodite instead(Chase,1998)."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HermaphroditesI think that you are right in believing that people with 3 sex chromosomes are sterile. I know that xxy's are sterile, but am not sure about xxx, or xyy.
I3lind
Mar 9 2007, 03:48 AM
We all start off with female genitalia? Some how i have a hard time believing that as that would mean we would also start out with the female reporductive tract, which im sure would not just go away. Are you sure?

Well, it's not fully developed, but it's closer to a female system than a male one. Two X chromosomes are genetically speaking, more complete than an X and a Y (male), so that's more of the "default" setting. However, this thread is getting dangerously close to being serious, so I'm going to need at least two muskestooges in here, stat!

Two things:
One. You're right, Steve Irwin wasn't average. He was less than average. He failed to get killed in a dramatic way despite his profession.
Two. Jesus was a pacifist in a society where it was considered a pretty good thing to fight to the death for entertainment. Pacifist in a society that had used military might to subjugate nearly all of their known world. How is that less significant and funny than a guy who poked animals with sticks and then made exclamations of surprise when they tried to bite him?
