In the news this morning, obesity was declared socially contagious. Contagious! And they went on to list the percentages for social relationships that were dangerous to healthy or moderately overweight individuals, the highest percentage going to same sex friends. Instantly occuring to anyone who watched this show had to be, "Should I stop being friends with fat people?" Even the interviewer pointed this out by asking if people should abandon their friendships if said friends were obese? What the frell?
Listen, I am fat, okay? I have been for as long a I can remember. Once in high school and thru college I did change this. I make no excuses for the way I am now. Many factors play a role, but I have no excuses for anyone, not even myself. Despite this I am a healthy individual. I am rarely sick. To date, I have none of the health problems associated with obesity. My doctors have always told me to lose weight and they have also always remarked on how healthy I am. There are things I would like to change, sure. But why does the entire world have to constantly deride people like me? For my own part I see beauty in many people of many sizes and ethnicities. Although I am often concerned when young people, particularly young women are too thin. Of course neither extreme is desirable on the whole. I know many of you have expressed disgust with those of us who are fat on the forums. I have never said anything about and will not. However, I will not simply allow the government or anyone else try to enforce some perfectionist mold on me. I am fine just the way I am and I am so tired of this 'war' on obesity.

Spyder the way I figure it if you are happy and not needing someone to take care of you, you are doing fine. Which you are as you posts show. Sure it is more healthy to have less weight but there are many factors to heath beyond it. So Frack 'em. American News is just a downer and scare tactic anyways.
