It's tha ballpahk in Bastuhn.
spyderjaxon
Spyder- That's Boston to normal people.
The Lone David
And Bastuhn to all us wicked awesome people.
spyderjaxon
Spyder- Here in the south we tend to spell things like they sound, rather than say things completely off of the actual spelling.
Blue
I guess the south isn't "Wicked Awesome."
spyderjaxon
Spyder- I've always considered my lifestyle to be laid-back and comfortable. Wicked awesome has never really been a factor.

Lies, I know how you talk in the south, well Florida is a bit different from the rest on the south but still your drawl is far from conventional english.

Well, if you would read some of the post where they both respond, maybe you would figure it out. But i guess i can make it easy on you, they are a married couple who at this moment happen to be having a baby, congratz again spyder.

we have accents up here?
spyderjaxon
Spyder- I never said our accent was conventional, just that we tend to spell things like they sound. Like dawg for example. Okay, maybe we aren't that bad most of the time. Still it seems funny to me pronuounce something completely different from the way it is actually spelled. And yes, grym, everyone has an accent. You have to be trained out it generally. You just don't notice it because you are used to your own. When my husband was in the Air Force, he was sent to Colorado. He went to the base commissary and asked for boiled peanuts...the clerk, god bless him, went to the back and got him a bowl of peanuts. Finally a worker from Louisanna came up and solved the issue. "Nah, dey ain't got no boiled peanuts here. I get ya some green peanuts, you boil ya own."
Hunter
accents are fun, at the mine we hire people from half way around the world and back. I get to talk to lots of Russians, French, Germans, and Newfies. mygod the Newfs we have here.
spyderjaxon
Spyder- I adore accents. It is part of your culture and isn't anything to make fun of. I like puzzling out accents I haven't heard before. My teasing of TLD was all in good fun. One of my husband's good friends in the military was from just outside Boston. Jimmy was always pretty cool.
Hunter
I haven't heard too many New Englanders but my god I love how Cajuns talk. Jerry Reed is one of the best actor/singers ever.
spyderjaxon
Spyder- If you can't understand Cajun, it is 'cause your listetning too fast. Slow down your expectations for the words and it'll click just fine. wink.gif I reckon it's 'cause it's too hot in the south to rush things, even language.
Hunter
Oh I know Cajun very well, the french not so much but I got the english.
spyderjaxon
Spyder- You know, one thing I don't like is when people don't give people for whom English is a second language long enough to speak before cutting them off. It isn't at all easy to change to the way you think to speak in a foreign language, a little patience is only polite.

Grym, if you do in fact live in New York, you aren't from New England, that's an exclusive club only Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island are a part of.

And it is so very rude to cut people off in mid sentence, I've often found myself shouting at those sort of people, coming to the defense of the many Polish and Hispanic immigrants we have back in Chicago.
Grym
aw dangit!

so I have a "new yorker accent"?
The Lone David
Well, yeah, if you want that kind of accent. It'd be cool if you were Italian or Sicilian because then you could have the "mob" accent, but as it were... Ick.
Grym
My accent probably isnt entirely new yorkian. When I was three, I spent a year in japan. This was very impressionable upon my language-ness. Of course this might have been beaten out of me by french class...
The Lone David
So you have the "Yakuza" accent, even more Ick.
Grym
naw, I just pronounce some of my letters (primarily R's) in a more japanese fashion. And theres the fact that it was probably beaten out of me by french.
The Lone David
Hmm, I can't think of a French mob...
Grym
french class. where I learn how to speak french. I'll probably have it beaten back into me by the japanese language camp I'm going to
I3lind
Well, over here, im told we talk out or noses but i dont notice.

Ah, no. The "mob" accent is Sicilian, and they're only Italian by geography. They're more Greek than anything else.

Firstly, I never said I didn't eat koalas. I just said that I wouldn't swallow.

Secondly, you're proud of winning against a nation of just over 21 million people in it? Seems a bit sad, really. I mean, there are a lot of cities with more than half our population. Competing with us is like finding a suburb (or New Zealand) a challenge.

Thirdly, I have no interest in any sport where we don't dominate. So I only have an interest in about half the world's sports.
Grym
what about soccer? You can't not have an interest in soccer!
Murk42
i'll admit, soccer/futbol is ok.
spyderjaxon
spyder- Soccer is great. Although my learning to play is now on hold. Despite being the classic American sports, I don't like baseball or (American) football. Of sports I know how to play, volleyball and basketball are my favorites. Of those I don't know how to play, hockey and soccer are my favorites.
Ghislord
Wow. I just spent te last 4 days in Baltimore and attended OtaCon... geeks need to learn to bathe... BAD. I wasn't there for myself but more for my girlfriend who really wantetd to go and see a AAA concert (Japanese band). She ended up seeing them and cospllaying and getting autographs and stuff... I was used as a packmule and gopher. Not that I would have done anything else anyways but... damn I'm tired.

But don't worry, now I'm back to impose my most holly justice again.

Fear me!

Soccer is the classic sport of the WORLD!

Besides, it's a subpar game. Too basic.

I'm back home btw...
Grym
good for you! how was boston? Chowdery?
The Lone David
Boston was awesome, you should head up there sometime. Getting smacked around by my fellow New Englanders might do you some good.

But seriously, the Bostonians are perhaps the nicest folks in America, it was so much more enjoyable than my trip to NYC... that was just... Ugh...
Grym
NYC is kind of... Ucky. I went there on a school field trip in the fifth grade. we went to the natural history museum, central park, central park zoo, and also to a toystore with about 20 bucks to spend. We raised a crapload of money in the fundraisers that year.
